5 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: I have completely fallen in love with San Luis Obispo and it will be hard to leave when I graduate

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: Cal Poly was the best decision of my life. I feel like I have revived a quality education both in wine and viticulture and in many other areas of my life

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: Everyone who graduates from my department leaves with a job

4 College Senior

Greek Life: It is a very welcoming and approachable greek system. Recruitment is not stressful and the houses are diverse. Many greeks and have outside of the greek system as well

2 College Senior

Diversity: Most cal poly students come from similar backgrounds and the school is not very ethnically diverse. But the students bring many other assets to the table that create diversity on campus

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Many people establish their social circle in campus housing and it creates a feeling of community on campus

5 College Senior

Academics: Cal Poly is the best deal for education. Students are highly sought after once they graduate but only have to pay state school tuition

5 College Senior

Academics: The students are all very social and engaging. The department is helpful in getting us involved in the local industry

5 College Senior

Nightlife: The downtown area is very fun. Numerous bars too choose from all within walking distance from each other and cover charges are minimal

3 College Senior

Athletics: The games are fun but not a huge social event. There are many other ways that students get connected to school

5 College Senior

Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe or needed to seek help. Most students are aware of the support and assistance that is available is needed. Students take care of one another to protect our community

2 College Senior

Campus Dining: The food tastes like cafeteria food and does not seem like high quality or fresh

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Campus has strict policies for a variety of things including student diversity and drinking

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Everyone accepts everyone the way they are. It's the mustang way to accept everyone

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Downtown slo is close to school and there are tons of places to eat

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Housing around campus is filled by residents but there are a few places

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Everyone has great school spirit especially when we have our rival games!

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Financial aid is financial aid

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life isn't too big here, only about 20% of the student population is part of the Greek life

4 College Freshman

Facilities: We have a beautiful gym! It has everything any student needs

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living in the dorms is a great help and a great way to meet people

College Freshman

Majors: I haven't done an internship yet

3 College Freshman

Majors: My major wasn't too hard to get into since it wasn't a popular major like engineering. For applying make sure to get top grades because that will make you look better.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The guys are like guys at any other campus.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I like how we can call for an escort service to drive us back to the dorms late at night.

Cal Poly students generally have nothing bad to say about their time spent in San Luis. A good part of the permanent-resident community attended Cal Poly once upon a time, which is a testament to how much people love San Luis Obispo. Members of the community enjoy discussing time-tested traditions and activities with current students whenever they run into them. There is absolutely a shared love of Cal Poly throughout the community.

The "learn by doing" philosophy truly does permeate all majors and aspects of campus life, and this is one of the things that sets Cal Poly apart most. Students truly do get the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of people to get to produce tangible evidence of their degrees. Students are prepared extremely well for after-college life since there are so many opportunities to develop a skill set and grow. When asked about their favorite aspects of Cal Poly, nearly every student will say that "everything," "the people," and "the weather" are their favorite qualities. You can't go wrong with these three!
