3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: They can be really strict about the stupidest things like dorm visitation, but ignore blatantly obnoxious frat parties.

Campus Strictness: I never had an issues with the strictness of Bucknell's policies.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Not really anything that you wouldn't expect. If you don't have loud music on, you could drink in your room and never get caught. Don't be dumb or put anyone in danger and you won't have problems. They give you the freedom to enjoy college until you're an idiot.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Don't party in the dorms. Getting caught is bad.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I don't drink, do drugs, or drive, so I've never had to deal with any of that. But friends who do have had many different experiences. P-safe can be friendly, but I've heard that in potential serious situations they can be very rude and treat people like criminals.

Bucknell has a point system to punish students for illegal behavior. Once a certain number of points are amassed, the student will face consequences, and if a student gets 10 points, he is kicked off campus for a semester. In the past, this system has worked well for students and administration. It’s a system that accepts the fact that underage college students are going to drink, so when an underage student is caught with a drink, he might get one or two points. It’s when students drink and drive, drink to the point of passing out, or continue to amass points that they can face suspension or expulsion. Once a student accumulates a certain number of points they are not allowed to participate in certain activities, such as living off campus. Each semester, students who have acquired points are given an opportunity to lose one of their points by attending a drunk driving presentation, so if you are unlucky enough to accumulate points, it is relatively easy to have them reduced over the years.

In general, students feel that Bucknell is too strict when it comes to alcohol. For the most part though, most students will not get caught unless they are stumbling around campus or being loud. When students drink in their dorm rooms they run the risk of being caught by the RA, which is especially true in freshman halls where the RAs are not as lenient. Drug abuse is handed directly over to the Lewisburg Police Department, so the Bucknell administration does not have much to do with that. Bucknell Public Safety and the points system exist at Bucknell to keep students safe. However, the majority of students are adults, and therefore, they should be able to handle themselves as such. The cops are strict and fail to recognize that some drinking occurs at almost every college—they need to lighten up a little!
