4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Somethings are more strict than others but it is all in the best interest of the students and their safety

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Bucknell administration has definitely started cracking down on the downtown party life, but compared to other schools we have it pretty good. Parties rarely get shut down and Public Safety officers are really just there to make sure people are safe. If someone called Public Safety for someone who was sick at a party, they would just get the person out and leave. The new amnesty policy has made it a lot better for people who need help and don't want to get points, but there are still some kinks that need to be figured out.

1 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: very strict worse. almost like high school

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: The school is not too constricting. Alcohol abuse is taken quite seriously here, but that is about it. I'm not sure about academics because my grades have never been below a B. I'm sure there are disciplinary actions, but I am not sure.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Policies are pretty lenient at Bucknell. It's almost impossible to get kicked out and it's easy to gain forgiveness

Bucknell has a point system to punish students for illegal behavior. Once a certain number of points are amassed, the student will face consequences, and if a student gets 10 points, he is kicked off campus for a semester. In the past, this system has worked well for students and administration. It’s a system that accepts the fact that underage college students are going to drink, so when an underage student is caught with a drink, he might get one or two points. It’s when students drink and drive, drink to the point of passing out, or continue to amass points that they can face suspension or expulsion. Once a student accumulates a certain number of points they are not allowed to participate in certain activities, such as living off campus. Each semester, students who have acquired points are given an opportunity to lose one of their points by attending a drunk driving presentation, so if you are unlucky enough to accumulate points, it is relatively easy to have them reduced over the years.

In general, students feel that Bucknell is too strict when it comes to alcohol. For the most part though, most students will not get caught unless they are stumbling around campus or being loud. When students drink in their dorm rooms they run the risk of being caught by the RA, which is especially true in freshman halls where the RAs are not as lenient. Drug abuse is handed directly over to the Lewisburg Police Department, so the Bucknell administration does not have much to do with that. Bucknell Public Safety and the points system exist at Bucknell to keep students safe. However, the majority of students are adults, and therefore, they should be able to handle themselves as such. The cops are strict and fail to recognize that some drinking occurs at almost every college—they need to lighten up a little!
