Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Even if you live off campus, there are still strict housing rules to abide by.
  • First semester of freshman year is a great time to take lots of GEs and really see what interests you.
  • If you want to save money on books, buy them early, and buy them used.
  • Sign up for housing early
  • The Career Center offers a one-credit "pick a major" class for freshmen. It's a good way to orient yourself to college.
  • The Mormon culture is very much alive and a big part of BYU.
  • Use; BYU is very active on this Web site and rates its professors pretty accurately.

Campus tours are offered through the Hinckley Alumni and Visitors' Center Monday through Friday at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Also, feel free to sit in on a class, meet with a professor, talk with your admissions counselor, or visit the departments or advising centers. When visiting BYU, you can stay at one of several nearby hotels or with another student that you know. However, be aware that many apartment complexes require students to give notice of an overnight guest, and you must stay with a person of your same gender.
