College Senior

Nightlife: BYU is located in Provo, Utah. Aka Happy Valley. Good luck finding a bar.

2 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: The off campus housing is just fine. It's pretty varied so you can find whatever you want. You just have to put in the research to find a place to live.

College Senior

Greek Life: There's only one fraternity available on campus, and they don't make a show of their presence.

College Senior

Scholarships: I have never tried to use the financial aid system at the school.

2 College Senior

Campus Strictness: BYU is not super strict on anything. They leave you to obey the honor code that you signed when you entered. If you don't obey, that's your choice but you live with the consequences.

Academics: The advertising program is amazing. You get a lot of hands on experience and you get to work with professors who really know their stuff. You learn a lot by putting the things that you learn in to practice and it really prepares you for the stresses and demands of the real world.

4 College Senior

Academics: BYU is a tough school to attend. It is very academically rigorous and if you're not prepared to work hard you will not do well. But if you got to class and pay attention then you'll do just fine.

Campus Housing: While I never lived on campus, living off campus can be kind of a nightmare. The monopoly system that's been set up for off-campus housing by forcing all BYU students to live in BYU-contracted housing has a number of problems, beginning with the fact that you can't live anywhere that you want to. "Off-campus housing" is really "campus housing but not on campus".

Overall Experience: While it takes some time to acclimate to BYU, especially for someone who comes from a different political background than the majority of students, once you find your niche of friends, BYU is wonderful. The relationship that develops between people who are of a similar background, especially when they're a variation of that background, is very helpful. I wish that BYU allowed for greater diversity, and was more respectful towards LGBT students, but they're not.

2 College Senior

Scholarships: The paperwork is kind of annoying, and the scholarships aren't exactly the easiest to come by, except for the Spring & Summer terms. If you have a relatively decent GPA and you apply for the Spring & Summer terms, odds are high you'll receive at least half-tuition.

Nightlife: Movie and popcorn sounds great to me!

Facilities: Old but taken care of

3 College Junior

Athletics: If you like sports, you are not alone at BYU. Everyone loves them.

4 College Junior

4 College Junior

Facilities: I love that there is something to do every week, from plays to museums to just sitting on the grass.

Nightlife: BYU definitely has a very different, less crazy night life than most colleges do, but it's not terrible! There are always crazy dance parties (most of which you have to pay for) that are actually really fun. And then there's also a ton of cool restaurants and things to do outdoors. (hiking, hot springs, night games, hot tubbing) Everyone is suuuper friendly, so even walking around you can meet fun people to hang out with.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: It is the greatest program! I can go straight to their graduate program after my Bachelor's Degree! They help me achieve my greatest desires for my degree as a Marriage and Family Therapist.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The academics here at Brigham Young University is great! I have been surprised at the vast amount of programs. I am yet to still know what programs they don't have! The process to get into the school is quite a challenge, but worth. They trust all their students to achieve great goals and expect a lot out of us. It feels great know this. All they care about is helping is pay for our money's worth.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This is the greatest University! It will change your life!

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Varsity Sport at Brigham Young University is a big part of the campus experience. Much advertisement encourage support for sports. It is nice to go to the facilities and play raquetball in between classes!

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Near Provo there are many hiking places, dining areas, a mall and other events to entertain a student. Its a very nice place to go to school. If you get a chance, go to the nickel arcade near Orem and Provo. Its great for a date night!

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There is no drug use at our school. We have moral and standards that helps the students understand the importance and our college does not tolerate it.

4 College Junior

Weather: Well, I love to see how the four seasons are strongly different here, but I have snow! Otherwise, I love it.

5 College Junior

Guys & Girls: You will find EVERY kind of girls and guys. I am kind of picky, so I did not find someone yet, but eventually I will.

A BYU experience is unlike anything else. The things that you will learn go far beyond what is taught in the classrooms, and the people that you will meet are exceptional. Researching the school, and being familiar with the rules and expectations of students, will make the transition smoother and help you get the most out of your BYU experience.

Talking with people who have attended, reading books such as this one, and looking at the BYU Web site (www.byu.edu) are all great ways to make sure that this is really the school for you. If you decide that BYU is what you want, then jump in and enjoy it! You are in for a great and character-building experience.
