3 College Sophomore

Majors: For right now, they are still revising the program that I study in (Elementary education). It seems to be a good program, the only downside is lack of class times/ sometimes the classes are in huge block times only 1 time a week.

College Sophomore

Majors: I have not had an internship through byu. Therefore, I am not able to answer this question.

Nightlife: I like the nightlife. People are always willing to do fun things and you can always have a good time. Campus also throws a bunch of activities all the time along with the religious affiliated activities.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Pretty much every thing at BYU is top-notch. Seriously, the games are well attended and fans are usually positive and happy.

Off-Campus Housing: There is great avalability to off campus housing, but you have to be wiling to pay for it. The biggest problem is the parking space. (there is not too much). It does seem farely safe and there is a website designed through the school to find housing.

5 College Sophomore

Computers: There are serveral computer labs on campus, all with very updated computers. It makes it easy to use work on homework on campus.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: It's morally very clean. There is little to no partying/drinking/etc. Provides for a very wholesome environment.

Scholarships: Merit based scholarships are automatic--as long as you turn in the application to be considered. If your GPA hits a certain level, you're guaranteed financial aid. There are tons of alumni group scholarships and department specific scholarships too.

Health & Safety: Most students don't worry about safety. There are a few incidents here and there that cause alarm--but generally safety is great.

Off-Campus Dining: J-Dawgs and India Palace are both gems--and both near campus. There's a lot of fast food too.

Local Atmosphere: I struggled to live in Provo--it's suffocating sometimes. But thankfully Salt Lake is not that far away.

Drug Safety: BYU is a dry campus. Both alcohol use and drug use are against the honor code.

Academics: BYU is definitely dedicated to academics and to making sure that students succeed.

4 Recent Alumnus

Campus Strictness: Students sign an honor code and then abide by it. Everyone knows what to expect and, as a whole, lives up to those expectations. The school's strictness is just holding students to their agreement.

4 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: BYU is full of BYU sports fans.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing has to be approved by the school, which lessens its availability and variety. But there are lists available of all BYU approved housing options with the numbers of the renting offices included. And the housing market is competitive, so the prices are decent.

4 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: International students make up a pretty large percentage of the student population. Since it's a religious school, there's not a lot of religious diversity--but on the whole the students are open minded.

Weather: The spring and summer are great--but once it gets snowing it's no fun to walk to school, and then from building to building (it's a pretty big campus).

3 Recent Alumnus

Nightlife: There's not tons in Provo itself, but Salt Lake is not that far away if you're looking for something fun to do.

4 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Housing: A lot of people, a lot of friends can be made and very diverse

3 Recent Alumnus

Transportation: Buses don't run very often and usually takes about twice to three times as long.

5 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: BYU has a strong respect for people of all races, beliefs, and political views.

Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: I have never heard of any issue either good or bad and never considered Greeks on campus, though there may be a few?

4 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: BYU keeps a clean environment, especially with their food and grounds keeping.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Strictness: BYU has great rules and a great community. I love BYU

A BYU experience is unlike anything else. The things that you will learn go far beyond what is taught in the classrooms, and the people that you will meet are exceptional. Researching the school, and being familiar with the rules and expectations of students, will make the transition smoother and help you get the most out of your BYU experience.

Talking with people who have attended, reading books such as this one, and looking at the BYU Web site (www.byu.edu) are all great ways to make sure that this is really the school for you. If you decide that BYU is what you want, then jump in and enjoy it! You are in for a great and character-building experience.
