Off-Campus Dining: Taste of Provo – There is so much located within just a few minutes of the Brigham Young University campus. Every different type of cuisine, price range and atmosphere. There are also many places which provide discounts for students. Some of the best places nearby are the countless frozen yogurt places, although packed with student lines, worth the wait!

Weather: Freezing Cold in Winter – The summer and fall is perfect, but once the winter hits, you cry walking to class. Miserable

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Close Enough to Walk – There's public transit but it's just as easy to walk or park free on a campus parking lot

Campus Strictness: As I'm sure you know, all students must abide to the Honor Code. This means no alcohol, smoking, and living the Law of Chastity AKA no sexual relations outside of marriage. Sure, it's strict compared to most schools, but when you come to such a fantastic university like BYU, there are prices to pay and sacrifices to make.

Facilities: The Harold B. Lee Library is freaking huge and fantastic. There's always a place to study, always a computer to use. There are places to be quiet and study, and there are places to hang out. We have the Smith Fieldhouse, which has weight rooms and a track.

Local Atmosphere: Provo, UT!!! Provo, UT is a fantastic place. There is a huge variety of places to eat for just about every person; we've got SLAB Pizza, J-Dawgs, Brick Oven, Olive Garden, Zupas, Wendy's, Carl's Jr., Spicy Thai, The Bombay House, The India Palace, Gloria's Little Italy, P.F. Changs, California Pizza Kitchen; you name it, we got it! There are fantastic hiking locations ranging from in or near Provo to several hours away, including, but not limited to, Squaw Peak, Mt. Timpanogas, "the Y," Goblin Valley, Little Wild Horse Canyon, and Zion's National Park, to name a few. People say Provo is boring; well, I won't lie to you: If alcohol and bars are your scene, this probably isn't the school for you. But it is in no way boring at all!! There are so many good people here, and so many great ways to pass the time.

Academics: From what I have seen so far, the academics are very good here. The professors really like what they teach and they want students to succeed. They are fun, but they challenge you. I thought that it was very easy to register for teachers, and I got every class that I wanted. The workload is bearable, but I really enjoy learning and the assignment they give. I really love the campus and the atmosphere. BYU has been great!

Guys & Girls: Handsome Guys and Beautiful Girls – There are all types of guys at BYU, from tall dark and handsome to white and nerdy. The ones you really want to get to know though are the ones in either the Engineering Department or Air Force ROTC. They are intelligent, handsome, strong, and very courteous.
There is also a wide variety of girls at BYU. Tall and athletic, spunky and sweet, smart and quiet, and of course the cute little home-makers.

Campus Dining: Pretty Good! There are many different options for food on campus at BYU. There is a large enough variety that you don't get bored very quickly. It's also relatively cheap most of the time. If you want a really good meal though for just a couple of bucks I recommend going to the Creamery and getting the "kid's" meal. You get enough food to fill an adult, AND you get ice cream too!

Health & Safety: Comfortablly Safe – While on Campus I never have to worry about if I'm going to get mugged or not. The students and faculty are extremely kind, and would do anything to keep each other safe. Just don't walk on the outskirts of campus by yourself at night and keep your room locked up so that you don't mysteriously "loose" something while you're gone.

Overall Experience: Having a Latter-day Saint culture, values at BYU like integrity, social interaction, service, and the LDS perspective of education, family, and the purpose of life really add something positive to the otherwise cumbersome experience of earning a degree defined by federal law.

Off-Campus Dining: A College Town - Food Everywhere! I haven't eaten much off-campus, but just driving around with my parents and walking on the outskirts of BYU I noticed how many food places there are, including the nearby Wendy's (cheap) and Brick Oven (expensive but great food).

4 College Student

Facilities: How Should I Know? I've only been here a week. I said I was a freshman, but I wasn't asked how long I've been here. Some of my answers were speculative.

Facilities: DRYEST SCHOOL IN USA! This campus has been rated the driest school five years running! We have fun that doesn't include drugs or alcohol.

5 College Student

Diversity: With all 50 states represented, plus over 50 countries represented, BYU offers diversity to its students!

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The rules are specifically laid out and if a student is found violating that, they are warned and asked to change their behavior.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Clean and Accessible – Everywhere I go is clean, smells fine, not too loud, and accessible to all students

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Very Pleasant – Provo is an extremely carefree and happy city. All businesses cater towards students and make sure we're pleased.

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs Are Not Acceptable – If you are doing drugs it is in private because doing drugs us not accepted.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Nice Apartments Are Expensive! Most apartments are old and fading. If you want a newly renovated apartment you have to pay a lot more then the usual price for off-campus apartments. Most are close to campus or have a bus system to get you on campus quickly. There are many to chose one and no one goes without.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Great Environment – BYU is full of students who love to learn and want to succeed, but even more so they want to serve each other. Everyone at this school is friendly and helpful, it is a great environment for learning and growing.

4 College Junior

Parking: BYU is great for parking because you don't need to purchase a permit, just register your license online. There's always places to park, but they're far away. The great part is, it's free!

4 College Junior

Facilities: I love BYU! There's a fabulous library and tons of places to study and hang out around campus. The sports facilities are great and there's almost always some sort of event going on that's hosted by campus.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Social Life Without the Trouble – As you know, BYU is notorious for no sex, no drugs, no alcohol. Even though a lot of non-LDS students would be totally turned off at this idea, there are a lot of fun things to do on and off campus. BYU really puts forth effort to entertain the student body with concerts in Brigham Square and different dances.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Science at It's Best – If you take the time and effort and get to know the staff in the Science Dept., it really makes a difference. The staff is very willing to help you learn what you need to do.

A BYU experience is unlike anything else. The things that you will learn go far beyond what is taught in the classrooms, and the people that you will meet are exceptional. Researching the school, and being familiar with the rules and expectations of students, will make the transition smoother and help you get the most out of your BYU experience.

Talking with people who have attended, reading books such as this one, and looking at the BYU Web site (www.byu.edu) are all great ways to make sure that this is really the school for you. If you decide that BYU is what you want, then jump in and enjoy it! You are in for a great and character-building experience.
