3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: There isn't much to do around the school. If you want to get out with friends, its best to travel the 30 minutes down to Idaho Falls.

3 College Student

Local Atmosphere: Their are a lot of activities on campus, but the town itself is pretty quiet. The locals seem to keep to themselves, and it's kind of like the campus is a completely different city.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: It's really great. It's easy to find things to do. You just have to have the right people around that will do those things too.

2 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: very poor small city. most places are overpriced. a lot of locals don't care for the students

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Rexburg is a typical Idaho small town. I have lived in Idaho all my life so this isn't anything new, but I love the atmosphere we have here. There are many activities on campus for students and the community to be involved in. There are also a lot of activities off campus. We have an old style diner with excellent pie shakes, ice caves, sand dunes for bonfires, parks, and a mountain close by to go hiking. This town has a safe feeling and I would be comfortable with walking anywhere after dark alone. There are many recreational areas close by where students can go horseback riding, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, climbing, and several other outdoor activities. The students from bigger cities find it hard to live in a smaller town, but they overall enjoy the comfortable and more intimate feeling.

Rexburg is a small town. The population is less than the number of students who attend the school. The dominant religion of the community is Latter-day Saint (Mormon), just as the campus community is, so the town environment is very similar to the campus environment. It is a very family-oriented Christian community. Some local residents don’t really like having college students around town because they are younger and add a rambunctious energy to the town, but other local residents like the students for that very reason. The students are also part of the reason some businesses and culture have come to Rexburg and are able to flourish in the area.

One of the most appealing characteristics is the kind and genuine people. Students often find themselves surrounded by friendly people who smile and say hi, whether they know you or not. Students go out of their way to hold doors for one another and strike up a conversation. It’s not hard to meet people who you click with and develop a fast friendship. Another thing that adds appeal to the area is the outdoorsy feel. Rexburg has many different landscapes and outdoor activities during all seasons. It can certainly be a breath a fresh air to students who come from crammed, busy cities.
