I do not have a car but from my understanding the permits are super cheap, not everyone has cars so there are always empty spots. Ticketing and fines have been increasing lately fort those who do not have permits, I hear they have been towing a lot of cars as well.
The parking at Brigham Young University - Hawaii or BYUH is fairly good. Since there are not that many students at BYUH the parking is never congested. The only times parking would be problematic would be in the parking lot near the gym during a basketball game or any other big event. However at normal times there is plenty of good parking available. Of the schools I have heard of, the price for a BYUH parking permit is fairly cheap. It is only $5 for a parking permit.
For school use only, there is not really any need for a car since the campus is small. However to visit places outside of school a vehicle will be needed as malls, shopping centers, and other attractions are far.
The school is small and not alot of people drive so parking isn't horrible. There is one huge parking lot in the front of the school where most off campus students park but it is sometimes inconvenient to park there if your class is across campus. Overall, finding a parking spot isn't too hard.
They really need to open up some of the Faculty-marked parking space for students. Considering there are 2700+ students and maybe 100-200 faculty members, you would think they would try to be more accommodating. A majority of the parking closest to campus buildings is marked for Faculty, and the few spots that are open to students are ALWAYS filled during the day. Security gets ticket-happy if they see a car parked without the proper permit, which just makes things worse ($60+ for parking! WTF?!). They should use some of the huge open-field space to build more parking. Those fields are useless anyway, all full of potholes and flooding with the slightest bit of rain. Get a bike or moped if you can. Otherwise you'll spend a half hour driving around the big circle looking for a space and most likely end up parking somewhere in Hau'ula.
Parking is great. Most of the students walk or ride their bike to school. You can get to the school ten minutes before your class starts and find parking just fine and make it to class on time.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
