5 College Junior

Computers: Good wireless all over campus. Lots of computers in Oneill. Printing is easy and convenient once set up on your laptop.

5 College Junior

Computers: We are extremely lucky with technology. Each student gets 500 pages to print each semester with every page over costing 3 cents. Two wireless networks are available, one for visitors and one password protected for only student and faculty. Bring your own computer, you will need it for writing papers and online assignments.

Computers: The tech support and resources are great. However, the WiFi can be a pain sometimes, depending on where on campus you are.

Computers: I never had any trouble getting a computer in the lab but I also did not use the lab that often. Free printing quota limits were put in place my sophomore year and they were limited to 500 pages at a time when professors were also moving away from text books toward a variety on online articles so the printing quota was definitely a problem for me. Tech support isn't great - they can help you quickly with minor things but if your computer needs to be fixed it can take weeks to get it back.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Not many labs if you need them. Laptops are a must. Wifi and lan are pretty fast and reliable.

Boston College maintains an efficient and up-to-date computer lab that is only marginally crowded during exams. Even when
the labs are crowded or you have some kind of computer problem, the lab employees are generally very helpful. Despite the general accessibility of the labs, most students have their own computers. Since most students at BC frequently check their e-mail and use Instant Messenger, the convenience of having a personal computer can’t be beat. Certain majors, such as English or history, require much more writing than others where an individual computer might not be mandatory. So, it really depends on the classes you are taking and what you want to use your computer for.

The school also helps out students by offering the option to buy a computer through the College. If you do this, you will also be able to get your computer fixed free of charge if anything happens to it. The network may not be the fastest in the world, but the freedom offered by wireless connections is certainly a plus. The lab is a noteworthy resource, but most students agree that having a personal computer is preferable to relying on the Campus Technology Resource Center.
