4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Bob Jones University is notorious for being strict. I still enjoy attending the university regardless.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The campus does seem to have a lot of rules that could be considered necessary but for the most part seem a little over the top.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: BJU seems very strict--which isn't that big of a switch for me because my parents rules are almost exactly the same. Sometimes, however, it would be nice to be allowed to wear pants to classes (especially in the winter time!!!!!) and it would be nice if we could be allowed (at least during some specified hours--like Grove City allows) to visit opposite gender dorm rooms, because it would be so much more comfortable and easy to hang out with your boyfriend/girlfriend if they were tired and just wanted to relax in their dorm room instead of having to go to the library to be with you or the snack shop or student center.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: If you brake a rule, you're in trouble if someone finds out. No drinking, no cheating, no tardiness, ect.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: There are a lot of rules, but they have the students best interest in mind.

Students have a lot to say about the school’s strictness and rules. Some students refer to BJU as a prison since there are so many rules. The school does not tolerate bad influences from students, such as drugs and alcohol. At the same time, the school regulates students’ social life. BJU has a strict dress code where students must wear certain types of clothing for certain occasions. Couples are not allowed to have any form of physical contact or even go off campus for a date. Dance music is prohibited, along with owning headphones. BJU has a dermit system with punishment: 50 demerits sends a warning home to parents; 75 requires student counseling with the RA, and 150 sends the student home. The most common thing that students receive demerits for is failing room inspection. Students get a room assignment, and each morning RAs check the room. When students fail, they get demerits, and these can easily pile up.

Overall, the school has a good reputation for not tolerating bad influences; however, the administration needs to work on being flexible with the students. RAs and dorm supervisors are a little bit more lenient in terms of communication. On the bright side, the rules keep changing each year. Recently, BJU got rid of dress code rules involving ties for male students and panty hose for female students.
