5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Just wish I would get some scholarships or other aid outside loans

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Currently I have just started on the path to Mixed Media Mass Communications major. I love my MCOM 151 class professor, she gives plenty of extra credit assignments, the textbook is current and interesting and the tests keep the information fresh in mind. She also offers extra discussion and class time.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I know I have a ways to go, but so far really enjoying the writing and thinking I do for this class.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: The snack shack at University Center rocks! They have popcorn Wednesdays, tanka bars and coffee drinks!

2 College Freshman

Weather: This winter has been terrible, the blizzard we had killed us and the snow this year has been terrible. During a normal season though, the weather tends to be on the chillier side because we're in the mountains, but pleasant.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: We live in South Dakota and I've always seen a surprising amount of acceptance for everyone on campus.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Again, it really depends on the department you're in. Our English department is very well put together for example.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I feel like there are a good amount of majors for everyone.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I haven't had an internship yet but I see a good amount of them offered.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Attendance and drinking in the dorms are really the only things that I've noticed are strictly enforced. Attendance really depends on the professor but drinking in the dorms isn't tolerated at all.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: We don't have a greek life on campus so it must be pretty good.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Safety on campus doesn't seem to be an issue. I personally have no problems walking across campus at night, and for those that do you can call the security officers and get a ride to where you need to go.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There's really not much to do in Spearfish outside of campus. There's a bowling alley and a movie theater. Otherwise, most people rely on things that the school plan.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There are a lot of parties thrown by students but there really isn't much drug use ON CAMPUS. All the drinking and smoking is done off campus, mostly because of the amount of students that live around town.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Our sports life is pretty subdued. We have a great weight room and track that's open to everyone. I've never been to a game myself but I'm not a huge sports fan.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Our off-campus dining is probably pretty average. Spearfish has a few very good restaurants that are family owned. There's an incredibly affordable and delicious Mexican restaurant west of the middle of town. We have plenty of fast food as well.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: We're not usually the best at sports, but that doesn't stop us from acting like it. Go Yellowjackets!

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: We have pretty strict policies on drugs, alcohol and underage drinking. But all of the rules are very reasonable to live on campus. Visitors have to be signed in after 8 PM but other than that there are really no visitation restrictions. Most things are handled on a case by case basis.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I really enjoy my classes and my advisors as a Graphic Design major. I feel that most of the classes in my curriculum are very relevant and will be useful to me in the future, so once you get past generals it's not bad. I also really like the teachers here, they are always very personable and available to individual students.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: On campus security is very strict about alcohol/drug consumption. Off campus, however, is a different story.

4 College Sophomore

Parking: The school isn't very big, I hardly ever have a difficult time with parking.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: We have some very good sit down restaurants and fast food restaurants, but most of them aren't very close to campus or they're chain restaurants that everyone has everywhere else. Most people drive to Rapid City when they want an interesting meal. The dining services on campus are very good though.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: I'm not old enough to get into the bars yet, so I couldn't really tell you. As for on campus, it seems alright.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: It might just be because Spearfish is so small, but I feel very safe on campus.

1 College Sophomore

Transportation: If we have any public transportation in Spearfish, I haven't seen it in two years. The campus is very small, though, so as long as you don't want to go anywhere else in Spearfish you don't need a car. If you want to go to the bank, or wal-mart, or to a restaurant however, a car is necessary.
