Campus Dining: Recently renovated cafeteria, affectionately dubbed "the Caf," with buffet-style dining is a social hub for many students. The main drawback is that it is the only major option on campus. Subway and convenience store on the dorm quad provide solid alternatives.

2 College Junior

Campus Dining: Choices limited and often repeated but all things considered they're edible and they have theme days!

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The cafeteria workers are really nice, but you can only take the food for so long. Other than the c-store, there's really only subway, which is awesome, but pretty expensive.

2 College Senior

Campus Dining: The food is good, but it's overpriced and the cafeteria isn't very clean. There also aren't very many different options; you either eat in the cafeteria or you eat prepackaged junk food.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Subway is good and the cstore is good (but very over priced). However the one dining hall gets old pretty fast.

The meal plan situation is simple at Southern: You have to buy one if you live on campus, and there are only two places to use it. Probably the biggest problem with this simplicity is that there is very little variety when it comes to food choices. You never hear about poor quality food in the Court, but you do hear about how tired people are of the selection. The staff in the cafeteria is what makes all the blasé food bearable, however. With friendly, familiar faces and great service, it's a little easier to handle the lack of options for on-campus dining. The other place to use your meal plan on campus is the C3 convenience store, which has become a favorite of many students. Also, there is the on-campus coffeehouse, the Attic, which is only open late at night but located much closer to the dorms. They recently started serving Starbucks coffee and other products, and the upgrade was noticed by all and appreciated by many. Most students get the light meal plan, which means you will probably have to get a carload of cokes or waters at the end of the term since your money won't roll over to the next semester. If you opt for the medium or hearty meal plans, though, any leftover money you have at the end of the term can be used for the next semester.

Given the neighborhood around the school, there are only a select few places who will deliver. If you're hankering for some pizza, be sure to get the number for the only Papa John's who will deliver inside the gates.
Did You Know?
  • If a family member makes a special dish that you enjoy, just submit the recipe to the cafeteria staff, and they will test it out and serve it.
  • One night during the Interim of every year, the cafeteria hosts a "Mama's Home Cookin' Night" where local BSC moms get together to feed the campus community.
