Transportation: No transportation at all. Campus is easy to get around. Public transportation is not an option

1 College Freshman

Majors: Easy school to get into. Application process is very easy and admissions are very nice and will do their best to get you in to school

Off-Campus Dining: The main place is Applebee's - after that it's pretty much fast food and smaller, locally-owned restaurants.

Weather: Well, it's Kansas. One day it's 50 and the next day it can snow. Wind is almost always present. But, like I said, it's Kansas. That's all I have to say there.

Parking: Bethel is a small school so parking isn't an issue. Maybe you'll have a short walk (and I mean short) to your dorm but it's not a problem. There are two different spots that are best for commuters to park that puts them closer to their classes.

Diversity: There is a lot of racial diversity on campus. Generally the campus is very accepting of religious or sexual beliefs. Politics is mostly one to avoid, I'd say.

Nightlife: Sometimes there are parties on the weekends but primarily, get-togethers are the way to go. There aren't really any bars in Newton and so the only nightlife is the one you create for yourself. I will say, though, that there are as many people who party as those who do not.

Athletics: Bethel is not good at sports. We have good facilities though. The school spirit is very low. This is definitely a school you should come to primarily if academics interest you, because it seems like those that come solely for athletics end up leaving.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: It seems pretty normal or average to me. There's not much to say. I guess I'd note that guys are generally polite enough to hold open doors and let ladies go first, most of the time.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: We have both a Windows and a Mac lab (well, I think Dells running apple software). In the Windows lab there is free printing if you bring your own paper! (The other option is printing in the library for 5 cents a page).

Campus Dining: "The Caf" is excellent!!!! They are very accommodating as far as allergy, gluten, organic, or vegetarian needs, and the food service director, Nolan, is always ready to listen to new ideas or any concerns. There are 4 options every day, a salad bar, a dessert bar, a pastry bar, a deli bar, and milk, juices, tea, and sodas available. And newly added, ice cream!

Facilities: One of my favorite things about Bethel (having grown up sort of out in the country and in a "smaller" town), is the general quietness and green space! We also have a walking/running/biking trail that runs through part of our campus, and I think that's really cool. We have great musical programs and amazing artists. The cafeteria has got to be one of the best in the nation as far as options and quality of food!!! We have a coffee bar in the student center, so that's always a bonus. It doesn't only serve coffee, though - paninis, smoothies, teas, cookies, quiche, and giant cinnamon rolls! Another cool thing about Bethel is that our administration building was once the original Bethel College. The building is still standing (though updated internally with electricity, plumbing, etc) from its original construction in 1887. It once housed all of the offices, classes, dorming, etc. How cool!!!

Academics: One of the main reasons I chose Bethel was because of the academics - particularly nursing. Many of the programs are top-notch here. Class sizes are generally 10-20, so they can advertise a smaller class size but that's not always what you'll have. However, the professors are amazing in every way, and always willing to help. They're very dedicated.

Campus Housing: Your freshman year you are required to live in Haury, the all-freshman, co-ed dorm (split floors by gender). It's the closest to classes, the cheapest, but has it's downsides. It can be loud, depending on your neighbors. It's the oldest. It has community bathrooms and showers (not near as bad as they sound). The newer-style rooms have better heating, but are much smaller. The older style rooms have worse heating, but are more spacious. The other two on-campus options are Warkentin Court ("The Mods") - apartment style living (5 rooms, 9 people, a living room with cable, two showers, two baths). The Mods can be pretty loud and are sometimes the "happening place" on campus on weekends; and Voth - I think of it as a hotel suite-style. Two people in one room, who share a bathroom with two people next door (two sinks, lots of storage space, a shower, and a private toilet room [with a door]). Voth is more quiet. All residence halls have community laundry rooms and kitchens. Suites and Mods are also separated by gender, although the floors are co-ed.

Scholarships: The financial aid adviser is very patient with questions and is extremely knowledgeable about aid. Being a private school, he is also very honest with you and very helpful as far as suggesting ways to find extra financial aid in the form of scholarships, etc. However, whatever scholarships you are awarded your first year as far as academics or extra-curricular, are those you will maintain for the remainder of your attendance. The pro: you can't go down. The con: you can't move up.

Off-Campus Dining: The restaurants that are around Bethel are the same as you would find in any other city. They are the same fast food restaurants that you can go to just about anywhere. The cost isn't terrible. Since the restaurants are fast food, they have dollar menus and other cheap items. The only way that anything is convenient in this town is if you have a car. There are no student discounts at any of the restaurants.

Local Atmosphere: The closest place a college student can go is to Wichita. That is a, at least, 30 minute drive. In town, there is a movie theater, but it always seems packed because that is one of the main attractions to do. Another big BC thing to do is go to half price apps at Applebees. If a college student is bored, they might find themselves wandering around Walmart for several hours spending money on things they probably don't need.

Health & Safety: The safety on campus is relatively high. The crime rate of the school is nonexistent. We do not have any problems at our school with the fear of others' safety. I believe that Student Life is doing everything in their power to try to keep our campus safe and make sure the students' safety is secure. I feel relatively safe on campus. I feel safer when other people are walking with me and when I don't have to walk around campus at night but other than that I have no complaints.

Transportation: There's no buses really available . Its not the main city a mile down is where the buses start to run

4 College Sophomore

Parking: I have had a car at school since my freshman year. You are required to register your vehicle with the school but there are no permit costs. Availability of parking spaces has never been a problem.

Guys & Girls: There is quite a bit of diversity among guys and girls on campus. I myself have friends on both sides of the spectrum, in both sexes. Girls that are gorgeous, athletic, and smart, and then there are those who are extremely geeky, same with the guys. But all in all it's a fun crowd and I find the people around here are for the most part very caring and interesting.
