5 College Freshman

Facilities: The entire campus is completely different than anywhere else; it's, well, best described as just Berry.

Academics: Pretty much any subject matter you want is here in some fashion

Drug Safety: Campus police bust anyone dumb enough to make a public scene about their drugs/alchohol

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: Coming from a member of the one fraternity on campus, there is virtually no greek life here.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Majority white but there is no tension between races here

Campus Housing: Dorms are (usually) clean and large, but most of them are older. Don't expect to get a shiny new dorm as a freshman.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Not too much to do here, but pretty much any restaurant you want exists here

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Sometimes dining hall has great food sometimes it doesn't.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Love Ford Music Building!!

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Wi-fi sometimes does not work very well.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Not very diversified, but there are some minorities.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: This winter we had snow!!

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Very safe even at midnight!

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: Can't go anywhere off campus without a car.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: IT support are always available to help answer questions and fix technical issues. There are computer labs in at least two of the six academic buildings, plus the "quiet" room in library which supplies a lab as well.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: I would say most students are caucasian, but there are a good number of students from other countries/heritages and religions.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It's very convenient being within, at most, a 10-minute walking distance of all of my classes. On-campus housing is a bit pricey, and only a select few seniors and occasional juniors are allowed to live off campus. They want to keep most students on campus to help create a sense of unity and closeness.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: We have one fraternity on campus. It is a men's music fraternity that gets involved with the community.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The rigor is what you should expect of a private liberal arts school, but classes and optional work experience help to prepare you for the work force once you graduate.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Never had to use it because I normally walk to class, but I always see the shuttle buses around campus. They seem very reliable!

First and foremost, Berry is not for everyone. People who realize this do so early on and typically end up transferring; however, for the students Berry is for, it can become a second home and one of the most amazing times in students' lives. Berry has a community feel, which is unique when compared to a large school. The professors, students, faculty, and staff all strive to make Berry an experience many want to relive. The leadership opportunities are unparalled to other schools because many students have created the positions they currently hold. Questions like, "Are you involved?" don't come up; rather "How many clubs and organizations are you in?" and "What job(s) do you have?" are conversation-starters for many students.

In addition, Berry is not a party school. Of course, there is the occasional off-campus party, that is usually busted for underage drinking, but because Berry comes with a $33,000 price tag, many students are not willing to waste that type of money and put their academics before anything else. All transitions into college are difficult, but Berry offers many different support systems throughout campus to maximize your potential. One complaint heard campus-wide is about how strict the campus can be. For instance, there is an attendance policy at Berry that you won't find at other schools. If you miss more than three unexcused absences, your grade is subject to being docked. While the complaint is a valid one, it's not likely to change and is something that is heavily enforced. In some departments, missing one class may mean your grade is in jeopardy, so make sure an absence is absolutely needed and cannot be held, or that there is communication with your professors to make other arrangements (e.g., sitting in on an earlier section of the same class). They are very flexible and willing to work with you; after all, they are there to see their students succeed.
