Transportation: Never had to use it because I normally walk to class, but I always see the shuttle buses around campus. They seem very reliable!

Academics: Small class size + great professors= perfect education!

Nightlife: I never really hear about parties on campus.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Berry Students are required to live on campus, unless you are a commuter that lives within 30 miles of campus.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Great variety and prices! Especially being on a college student budget!

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: My dorm is great! However, other dorms are old and need to be refurbished!

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Rome is awesome! So many fun restaurants and events to go to! Plenty of great restaurants around that offer great prices and discounts for college students!

3 College Freshman

Computers: The wifi stinks! It works sometimes... but it never works when I need to submit assignments online.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: So AWESOME! Berry offers some great scholarship opportunities. They offer need based and academic awards.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Curfews are convenient, very strict drinking policy (if you get caught)

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I never see any drugs or alcohol around campus (Berry is a dry campus after all). However, students talk about drugs. I prefer to stay away from both drugs and alcohol, but I have heard they are both easy to find if you look for them.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Majority of students live on campus but about half the seniors live off campus. You have to have a car to get from campus to your off campus house or apartment however.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The Ladd center (student health center) is very useful for minor things and there is more than one hospital nearby. Students often joke about the "Berry Bubble" - the school is so safe we often forget what its like outside of our 27,000 acre utopia. Extremely safe school.

Campus Strictness: Berry is (supposedly) a dry campus. That being said most RAs are very lenient and wont bother you if you aren't being an idiot. Police are much more interested in making sure everyone is safe than busting up parties. Don't be dumb parading around drunk and you'll be fine. While there is alcohol use on campus it isn't super widespread; a good rule of thumb is that if you look for it you'll find it, but if you don't want to see it you never will. Most professors and mandatory attendance and the small class sizes kinda makes it so you have to go to class. Visitation hours are fair (until 1am Sunday-Thursday, and till 2am on Friday and Saturday). Most female RAs will enforce this rule but some males will not.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Events are generally well attended and fun but its a small Division III school, so its about what you'd expect.

5 College Freshman

Majors: Berry offers guaranteed on campus jobs which are often in a students anticipated career field or related to their major.

5 College Freshman

Majors: Berry does an excellent job of preparing animal science students for veterinary school. I would choose Berry's Animal Science program again.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of varieties. Almost every regional chain and plenty of unique restaurants downtown. Waffle House (an essential) is nearby and the nice staff there will remember your face and name and treat you like family for all your 3am dining needs.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Rome is a fine city with plenty of amenities, and is about an hour drive from Atlanta and Chattanooga. My only criticism is that it isn't really a college town. That being said there are a plethora of excellent food choices and just enough bars to stay satisfied.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Berry's Animal Science program is arguably the best in the nation and continues to boast a >90% acceptance rate to veterinary school. Animal Science classes are taught by extremely intelligent and interesting professors dedicated to teaching and helping students. The hands-on labs are particularly impressive, and the ability to work an on campus job in an animal related field (dairy, beef, sheep, horse barn) while using what you've learned in class in a real world business setting is unmatched by any other school.

Academics: Berry's faculty are mostly great. The academic advising is some of the best around even though the registration can be chaotic. Professors are easy to approach and are interested in seeing students succeed. Classes are challenging but if you study and are invested in succeeding you'll be fine. There are a lot of science majors, and animal science is especially strong. The addition of a nursing program has brought in a lot of good nursing students. As with any Liberal Arts school there is a wide range of possible majors and academic opportunities.

Parking: Parking at the dorms is mostly good. Sometimes its difficult to find a spot nearby. The biggest issue is behind McAlister (aka The Science Building) which can get brutal after about 9am.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: The Cage is the bomb. It has basketball courts, an extensive weight room, and a pool. Overall, it's a great place to work out.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: Berry has the best professors. Advisors and mentors are extremely helpful. You can make awesome friends as well.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: If you don't do anything stupid, you'll be fine.

First and foremost, Berry is not for everyone. People who realize this do so early on and typically end up transferring; however, for the students Berry is for, it can become a second home and one of the most amazing times in students' lives. Berry has a community feel, which is unique when compared to a large school. The professors, students, faculty, and staff all strive to make Berry an experience many want to relive. The leadership opportunities are unparalled to other schools because many students have created the positions they currently hold. Questions like, "Are you involved?" don't come up; rather "How many clubs and organizations are you in?" and "What job(s) do you have?" are conversation-starters for many students.

In addition, Berry is not a party school. Of course, there is the occasional off-campus party, that is usually busted for underage drinking, but because Berry comes with a $33,000 price tag, many students are not willing to waste that type of money and put their academics before anything else. All transitions into college are difficult, but Berry offers many different support systems throughout campus to maximize your potential. One complaint heard campus-wide is about how strict the campus can be. For instance, there is an attendance policy at Berry that you won't find at other schools. If you miss more than three unexcused absences, your grade is subject to being docked. While the complaint is a valid one, it's not likely to change and is something that is heavily enforced. In some departments, missing one class may mean your grade is in jeopardy, so make sure an absence is absolutely needed and cannot be held, or that there is communication with your professors to make other arrangements (e.g., sitting in on an earlier section of the same class). They are very flexible and willing to work with you; after all, they are there to see their students succeed.
