4 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: I don't live off campus, so I can't first-hand speak for it, but I do have some friends that do. If you keep to cheap meals and such, it is a lot cheaper than living on campus.

5 College Senior

Drug Safety: I'm not really once to talk to about this stuff, but as far as I know I have never seen any drugs on campus.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: There are plenty of rants I could go off on the parking and the tickets that come out, and the fact that once you call security it takes them at least a good 10-15 minutes to reach where you called them from, but they do give rides back to the dorm during the cold winter when you have to park a bit a ways from your room.

Overall Experience: I love how the professors are much more personable here; they think of each student as an individual rather than just a number. The lake is wonderful, too, and during the cold winters we have tunnels to dive into when it gets too much. Every relationship with a professor is different, of course, but the experiences I've had with each of them are wonderful, since they help with questions and give good feedback to papers and such. They're dedicated to helping their students learn.

Health & Safety: Campus security is present in the dorms with frequently walk through, but not over bearing. The student body as a whole is very trusting and not in need of security escorts, but they are available.

Transportation: Almost everyone does ride sharing. There is a campus bus that goes to various locations, but mostly people have their own car or get a ride from a friend. There is a local airport that goes to connecting flights in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Transportation costs make food prices expensive.

Off-Campus Housing: There are many houses for rent that students choose to live in very close to campus. It's in downtown Bemidji so parking is pretty bad. The houses aren't in great shape, but they are pretty safe and have very reasonable rent- same as paying for dorm life. About half or slightly more live off campus after freshman year.

College Freshman

Athletics: Our Men's Hockey team is phenomenal and the campus is centered around hockey. The facility is amazing, the whole community is extremely proud of the hockey team and all of Northern Minnesota is very interested in hockey. Many people go to Bemidji State to be a Beaver hockey fan. No one really cares about other varsity sports

College Freshman

Greek Life: The only thing non-Greeks really know is some of the minor initiation things people have to go through.

2 College Freshman

Nightlife: Parties are not very large and not really popular. Night life consists of Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Bemidji is not a very large town, but it's the largest around for many miles. There's a lot of restaurants and the community is very involved and culturaly aware of the nearby Native American Reservations. There is not a lot of indoor entertainment but the majority of the student body is very outdoors oriented- fishing, hunting, motor sports. Safety is not a huge issue as a lot of the student body is very similar types of outdoors oriented, respectful people. Shopping is a minimum of two and a half hours away in any direction. The community is very welcoming to students as they bring jobs and tourism.

Majors: Neither of my programs have a process for getting into the program, but the music program you have to pass barrier juries in your instrument to move on and you have to perform recitals to graduate. Very reasonable though and the faculty make sure you are well prepared.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I love the music program. We have very knowledgeable faculty and our music building is very convenient. Music students are not assigned a lot of paperwork homework, but naturally you do a LOT of practicing. The music building has plenty of practice rooms and very extensive hours so its convenient to practice. Our choir program is awesome, but our string program is dying as there is no string ensemble and the strings instructor lives four hours away and only has classes every other week.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Mostly alcohol, not heavily enforced. Many of the RA's will "look the other way"

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: All the dorm buildings are being remodeled one by one and they are very reasonable in cost and quality. They are close to classes, the furthest distance from one end of campus (residence end) to classes is 0.5 miles with tunnels for during the winter.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Many of the proffessors are great, but a lot of the entry level classes (i.e. Math 1100, Econ 2000) have teachers who are not motivated to be teaching that specific course and are not very willing to help student get good grades. Registration processes seem easy, but tend to be full of loopholes.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I am double majoring in Vocal Performance and Business Administration. The music program is awesome! We are very busy students with knowledgeable, approachable faculty, but it is extremely difficult to graduate from the music program in four years.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: File all by the deadlines.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Very cold in the winter.

1 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Most of the houses are junky and have horrible landlords that overcharge.

College Junior

Greek Life: I don't pay attention or know about the Greek life at my school.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: A lot of people used to party last year, but I am not involved in that this year.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Just make sure to apply on time and you will receive what you need!

3 College Junior

Athletics: I think that freshman are the biggest attenders of any athletic event, and they show a lot of school spirit.
