4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Our alcohol "philosophy" is great, and this is coming from someone who does not really drink. Because our campus is wet and underage drinking is allowed, students are more likely to contact campus security if there is a problem because they know that they won't get in trouble. There have been incidents on campus with rape, theft, drug-related violence, etc. but the administration is aware and they're trying to solve it. I personally have not had any issues with safety.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus, but the health center has weird hours.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel no less safe at college than I do at home.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There are some neighborhoods around the campus that have been prone to criminal activity, but for the most part the campus is a safe place for students. Any issues on campus usually arise from non-students interacting with students, including sexual harassment and theft but these are not common. Security is okay at responding to security calls, and there are security guards always walking around the campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Our security is the best. They aren't here to get you in trouble, but mostly just to make sure that your'e ok. Hardly any campus crime at all. Very safe.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Beloit College is like a room in your own home. The campus is pretty darn safe; the only real problems arise when people act stupid or irresponsibly. Campus security is always strolling through campus, looking for a chase, but they usually just get a "Hey, how's it going?" from the students passing by. There is definitely a good rapport between students and security officers. They are people we feel comfortable with, and we know they're watching out for us, even if that means calling us out on inappropriate behavior.

Students generally don't feel safe walking around the town at night-myself included. It's just not a good idea, especially if you're by yourself, and especially if you happen to be female. Campus, though, is safe. You can rest assured that those security officers can and will recognize a non-student intruder and will escort them outside our comfortable bubble if they can't give a good enough story.
