4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: A lot of the people at this school are very easy to talk to and are great once you get to know them. However, there is a huge number of hipsters and/or extremely devout Christians on campus, which may not be for everyone. I would argue that it's not nearly as big a deal as everyone seems to make it out. Overall, the people here are fantastic but I get that it's not for everyone.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Diversity is element at Belmont. Young people from all over attentd and bring their talents.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Everyone at Belmont seems happy and healthy. Most people exhibit great fashion taste and aren't afraid to be themselves. Belmont also has a lot of different types of people.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There's tons of aspiring musicians and artists everywhere so you get a lot of characters...

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: I have not had much time to meet many people outside of my major, but those I have met like to keep a nice appearance. You rarely see anyone in sweatpants and other casual clothes. Many students are very involved in music. It is not unusual to see people on the lawn playing instruments. Personally, I have not seen many parties on or close to campus.

If you’ve ever been called a hipster, you’ll fit right in at Belmont. Skinny jeans, oversized glasses, and TOMS are trendy on campus—for guys and girls. Not all students fit that mold, but most have at least a small artsy streak. Students tend to dress their best on the weekends for two reasons: going downtown and going to church! Nashville nightlife is a lot of fun, and you might run into your classmates in a more casual environment if you’re listening to Belmont bands play a show at the Hard Rock Café. The city also has plenty of churches to choose from, and the ones geared toward college students can be a great place to meet people. While hookups may happen at some off-campus parties, Belmont students are geared for meaningful relationships. The campus is so small that you’ll likely have a few familiar faces in every class, and relationships sometimes grow from that.

Of course, Nashville is an ideal college town because you’ve got options—if you don’t find somebody you click with among your Belmont peers, Lipscomb and Vanderbilt practically bookend the campus. So venture out and meet some new people. Even if you don’t meet the girl or guy of your dreams, you’ll find a huge network of friends, and isn’t that what college is all about?

Best Places to Meet Guys & Girls
  1. The gym. You will find them there, but whether you interact with them or not is totally up to you. People slip into their "zone" when they work out and don't really like to be brought out of it before they're ready.
  2. The bars. This is where a lot of the athletes and their friends hang out on the weekends if they are not at parties.
  3. Church. This probably goes against every moral that says you shouldn't go to church to scope out the market, but in Nashville, the Buckle of the Bible Belt, everyone and their mama is at church, including the hotties.
Best Places to Hook Up
  1. Off-campus parties (because there will be alcohol)
  2. Bars
  3. Nightclubs
  4. Dancing clubs (e.g. Ibiza, the salsa club)
  5. Live music shows
Social Scene
Belmont is definitely a social campus. On any given day, you'll see a guitarist strumming out a melody in one of the gazebos-and it won't be long before he's been joined by a singer and a drummer tapping out the beat on his legs. The music scene in Nashville is fantastic, and students often head downtown on the weekends to hear their friends play at one of the local venues.
Hookups or Relationships?
Thanks to Belmont's tight-knit community, students are more into committed relationships than random hookups.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
People tend to meet each other through classes, student organizations, and church. While the student center sounds like it would be a great place to meet new people, most students meet up with their group of friends there. It's the same in the cafeteria: a lot of students eat there, and it's full of people during lunch and dinner, but everyone tends to sit with people they already know.
Dress Code
Belmont is a music school, so fashion is important for students who want to be taken seriously. Ask somebody who doesn't attend the University how they view Belmont students, and they'll probably describe them as hipsters. This means cardigans, skinny jeans, scarves, and TOMS for guys and girls. Of course, not all students dress this way-Belmont is very diverse, and people with a wide variety of styles call it home.
