Nightlife: Any given night of the week at Belmont University, you can find multitudes of people playing music all over the place. There are concerts to attend, rehearsals going on etc. There are also often sporting events or greek life events.

Academics: Academic Excellence – Belmont University is an incredible school that demonstrates academic excellence and greatness in almost every regard. It's professors are knowledgable and helpful, class sizes are great, and course work is ideal.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: I mainly use the public transportation if I were to go to the mall. It's always on time and there are always buses running for options of getting to places.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Belmont is located in the beautiful city of Nashville. It's a few miles from downtown, so there are quaint areas to go and shop in and find some coffee places to do homework in. It's a really fun area to go to school in and there is always a music venue to go to. Everyone is so friendly!

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: the greek life is welcoming, but sometime it is very overwhelming and takes over lives of students

4 College Freshman

Computers: the wireless is very fast and hardly ever goes down. there are also available computers in various parts of campus

Facilities: Depends on the Student – If you're very much into the music scene and are seeking a degree in the entertainment industry and/or are very Christian then the BS that Belmont constantly spills out can be tolerable. However, Belmont treats it's students like they're still in high school. Belmont encourages students to tell on their roommates if they come back drunk or high and places ridiculously harsh punishments on students who don't live up to the "Christian" standard. If you're looking for partying then you'll have a bit of a tough time. Whenever Belmont does throw down it's a good time but it doesn't happen too often.

Off-Campus Housing: A majority of students live off campus and have found houses that are in a great proximity to school and are very affordable (cheaper than the dorms) especially if you go in on rent with roommates. All of my freshman friends are decided on moving off campus next semester and all have found a house to at least consider

Campus Dining: There is definitely something to say about Belmont's food options. For starters, they put on a show for potential students. You think that Belmont serves their students pretty decent food in the cafe but then you learn that they put grade the food plan specifically for the days high schoolers visit. The food company that the school actually goes through is the same company that feeds Tennessee state prisons and the food is so nutritionally starved that you're hungry an hour later. Also, the hours of the cafe are completely ridiculous because they close the cafe at random times throughout the day and close for the day at 7 pm and at 6:15 on weekends. Needless to say, it's very common to miss your dinner.

Off-Campus Dining: Whatever Your Heart Desires – Whatever food you prefer, Nashville has it. Most everything is good, but I love the small cafes. And the best places to eat are the ones that offer student discounts!

Computers: Best of Both Worlds – At Belmont they do a great job at accomodating students. The labs offer both Dell and Mac computers available to students. This is nice becasue the software is so different. There is always room in the labs and the workers are always welcoming and helpful.

Local Atmosphere: Belmont is in a wonderful area of Tennessee. The school is near Nashville and Vanderbilt University; therefore, we are always close to a fun and exciting area. However, even though we are close to a big city, I feel very safe and secure when walking through Belmont's campus. This is one of its best qualities. The city and community is always welcoming student activities set up and run by students. I could not ask for a better city to study in!

Weather: The weather at Belmont University is awesome. It rains fairly often, but classes are pretty close to each other, so there is no real horrid walks. If it snows or is icy, classes will most likely be cancelled, which is not too often. When the weather is nice, everyone is seen hanging out outside.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Belmont University has great housing structures. Freshman live in dorms that are right in the middle of campus. Upperclassmen housing is a five minute walk from campus at the most. There is a nice mix of girls-only, boys-only, and co-ed dorms. The dorm rooms are a great size for double and triple rooms. Suite-style bathrooms are the norm, and loved by the student body.

Facilities: Campus Is Gorgeous Year-Round – The landscaping at Belmont University is absolutely incredible. Year-round the lawns are green, the leaves are raked, and the flowers are constantly alive. This attracts many students to study outside in the nice weather, play frisbee, take naps in the lawn, and practice music outside. Being built on the property of the Belmont Mansion, the architecture is beautiful. Original gazebos and statues remain for students to view on their way to class.

Off-Campus Dining: If you want to eat after 11PM, you pretty much have to eat off campus. There's a Circle K across the street, which is right next to a coffee shop and a Mexican restaurant. There are a few other restaurants in walking distance from Belmont. But if you want more variety, there are a ton of restaurants closer to Vanderbilt. Take a car (or find someone with a car) and you've got plenty of options.

Nightlife: so there are a ton of concerts. Bars are pretty much 21+, if you're into that kind of thing.

Off-Campus Housing: What I Know About Off-Campus Living – I've lived in two different apartments off campus: Westmont Apartments and Howe-Garden Apartments. The first is off of West End, the other in East Nashville where I currently live. The closer you want to live to Belmont, the pricier it will be whereas East Nashville has fairly low rent. The drawback of living in East Nashville is it's a bit farther off, so instead of rolling out of bed and walking to class ten minutes before it starts, you'll have to get up maybe an hour or so before your class starts and be out the door, on the road 20 minutes before class time so you can get there in time to find a parking spot. Even though its some hassle, its worth the $350 I save every month! Also, roommates is absolutely the way to go with saving money, and I've known some people get great deals by renting out a house and making every possible room a bedroom. Belmont also has a housing finder link on their website that is extremely helpful.

Campus Housing: Student Housing – My freshman year I lived in Maple and it was very nice, two bedrooms joined by a bathroom. Two sinks, a toilet, a shower, outlets, 100 speed cable internet, two beds in each room, two wardrobes, two desks, two chairs, two dressers. Everything is close. I heard Maddox was not so great, but other than that all of my peers seemed satisfied. Try to get off campus housing though because they are incredibly strict about alcohol and visitation with the opposite sex in your dorm rooms. Living off-campus can be much MUCH cheaper than living on campus and can allow you to live more freely. Also, if you're a musician, it may be best to move off-campus so you can have unlimited practice time.

Health & Safety: Fairly Safe... Depending on Where – If you're on campus closer to 12th, you want to travel in groups, especially at night. There was a rape in the area of a Belmont student as well as a few assaults. Bikes frequently get stolen so be sure to get your bike registered with the school and with a LOCK. Other than that you could practically sleep on campus in the quad and not worry about getting pick pocketed or anything. Ive left things in the computer lab and the library that were very valuable and they were always right where I left them originally, even if HOURS had passed! The students here aren't the danger, really just residents on the the side that's closer to 65.

Transportation: Getting Around – Belmont offers students the option of free use of the Nashville public transportation system. You can also rent a WeCar from Belmont directly. There are plenty of options for students, from bikes to cars, who did not bring a car to campus with them.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Choose Your Scene – The nightlife on and off campus boasts quite a few options, depending on what you're looking for. On campus students can find residence life sponsored programs, convocations, athletic events, or performances to attend. Off campus, there are plenty of clubs and bars for the 21+ crowd, as well as restaurants offering local performances or songwriter nights. With Vanderbilt University in close proximity to Belmont, many students may want to make friends with the Vandy crowd to have an "in" for more party options off campus. Just remember: Belmont is a dry campus and has a low tolerance for alcohol consumption.

Weather: It will be rainy one day and then sunny the next. The temperature varies quite a lot too. Winters are not very cold and fall is totally beautiful.

Athletics: Basketball Is Awesome – Basketball is huge at Belmont. Everyone gets involved with it. MOB is a student organization that promotes school spirit for basketball games and other activities. Celebrities even show up to the basketball games.

3 College Student

Weather: Big Range – It goes from blistering heat in the beginning of fall semester and than changes to snow not to long after. It makes for a wide range of weather which can be nice. The worst is the humidity. That makes everyone uncomfortable

Most Belmont students will tell you that if they had to do it over again, they’d choose Belmont every time. So, despite parking issues, rising tuition, and strict behavioral policies, students are truly glad to be here, and it shows. University president Dr. Robert Fisher (around here, he’s affectionately called “Bob the Builder”—you’ll figure it out when you see the construction trucks on campus) likes to say Belmont is a “small town in a big city.” Because it’s such a tiny school on an enclosed campus, the community atmosphere at Belmont is incredibly strong. Professors often give out their personal cell phone numbers to students who need extra help, and they genuinely want their students to succeed—not just in their classes, but in life. Most students find one or two professors in their major who become almost like surrogate parents. They’ll counsel you through the stress of finals and help you find fantastic internships. Because many professors are former professionals in whatever field they teach, they have experience and contacts that are immeasurably valuable to students —in this town, the people you know have the potential to open doors for you.

Nashville itself is probably one of the biggest selling points for the University. It’s an incredible town full of opportunities for young professionals in every major. Nursing students may do clinicals at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the world. Students who like to write might find a public relations internship at one of the music labels in town. And of course, if you want to pursue a career in the music business, there’s no better place to be. So is a Belmont education expensive? Yes. Make no mistake about it. But if you feel it’s the right place for you, you’ll leave knowing every penny was worth it.
