According to Barnard students, there's something for everyone in this city, but, in a city as big as NYC, you might have to search a little bit. New York City and the neighborhood of Morningside Heights really provide the best of both worlds for Barnard students. While there is world-class entertainment, dining, and cultural events going on all the time all over the city, there is also a very small neighborhood, college-town feel to Morningside Heights. In the area surrounding Barnard, you can wander into shops or cafés and expect to see someone you know, which really fosters a sense of community that a person might be surprised to find in New York City.
There is something for everyone around the Barnard campus. Due to the close proximity of all these different groups of people, there is an energy that comes from the city that a person might not find in many other places while still being able to enjoy the familiarity of a small neighborhood. Of course, there are many other colleges around, such as Columbia College, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Manhattan School of Music, and the Jewish Theological Seminary. Morningside Heights is pretty much a neighborhood of just college students and professors that live nearby. Because there is nothing you can't find in the city, from Broadway to basketball to simple peace and quiet, Barnard is really located in a great city, and as New York asserts, it is "the greatest city in the world."
