3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Since Ave Maria is practically 45 minutes away from Naples there are no buses. One can call a cab but that is a lot of money and the next best thing is the school vans that can be used if you sign up to use one. They are very reliable but have a time limit.

Transportation: The public transportation is really good at Ave Maria, they have shuttles and taxis. They also provide us transportation if we want to go out of town into Naples.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Ave is about 30 minutes from Naples, so unless you have a car or can borrow one, there are only about 1 or 2 shuttles off campus every week for shopping runs. The buildings are fairly close together, and so for living on-campus only a bike or longboard (a glorified skateboard) is really needed. People are generous though, so you can almost always find someone who is able to take you off campus.

College Senior

Transportation: Isolated Location – Transportation around campus or into the local town of Ave Maria is accomplished by walking or biking - the community is extremely small, and is very isolated - in the midst of an alligator swamp. The nearest city is Immokalee, the next Naples, and people get to them using their personal vehicles or sometimes school vans, for a school-arranged trip.

3 College Junior

Transportation: Bikes and Golf Carts – Ave Maria is basically in the middle of nowhere, so, if you need to get to a big town, you usually have to own a car, have a friend with a car, or go once a week on the shopping runs. For around campus transportation, we're still pretty small, so bikes or feet are good options--there are also golf carts in frequent use by some faculty/staff members, etc.

The campus and the town are within walking distance. The longest walk is to  Publix, which takes 15 to 20 minutes, at most. The dorms are all within five minutes of the Academic Building, where most of the classes are held, and the Student Union is about the same distance. Many students also have bicycles, but since everything is so close, it isn't any trouble at all if you just walk everywhere.

When it comes to longer-distance transportation, there are shuttles that go to Naples every week to places like Wal-Mart and Target, and when vacations or long weekends come up, there are also shuttles to the Fort Myers airport. However, if you're interested in going to Naples often, it would probably be better to bring a car. Freshmen aren’t allowed to have cars on campus, but sophomores and upperclassmen are. If you don’t have a car, there are a number of students willing to offer other students a ride. Though the transportation to Naples could be better, it’s definitely good within Ave Maria itself.

Best Ways to Get to the Airport
The best way to get to the airport is by driving yourself or getting a ride with a friend. The next best way is via the shuttles provided by Ave Maria, which are free. Those, however, are usually only available when there are long weekends or holidays, unless there is some kind of emergency, when special arrangements can be made.
