Transportation: Large Car Commuter Body – Most students at APSU are commuters. At the beginning of every semester it's a parking disaster because they never seem to have enough spaces for the students. However, once the semester is in full swing it's easier. Another plus is parking passes are free!

Health & Safety: Don't Walk Around Alone at Night. During the day Austin Peay is a wonderful campus and I have never felt threatened. However, there have been instances of assault on women, usually after 9 p.m. and the campus is very close to public housing. If ever your walking around at night, take someone with you.

Campus Housing: Not Really Mush to Live in – The housing options at Austin Peay State university are below average. For the price of a dorm room for a school year, one could easily attain an apartment off-campus. But, with the option of living on campus, it is extremely easier to get to the dining hall, library, and classes.

Off-Campus Dining: Clarskville Is Average – Dining near campus is quite undesirable. Mostly, Austin Peay State University has resturants nearby like Taco Bell, Sonic, and McDonald's. There's nothing really exceptional. Although, there is one place that is a Clarksville must. This place can get pricey, but they have a dish that is worth it. The beer cheese dip at the Blackhorse Pub and Brewery is worth the price. With the right comrades, the experiences are endless.

Overall Experience: Freshman Year – In my opinion, this school is awesome! the food is great, most of the professors are down to earth and there is always something going on.

Parking: For on campus students parking is not too bad but it is a bit harder for off campus students to find parking unless they come early. The parking permit is free and when one enrolls for apsu they get a free public transportation card as well. at every parking lot there is a security poll where you can get help in case someone needs gas, a jump, or a police officer.

Local Atmosphere: What's Here – small, military area with only one local mall. plenty of restaurant places, hair and nail salons, two theaters, and small odd shops. most places have discounts for students and that's a big plus.

Greek Life: Greeks Don't Dominate – Greek culture is on campus and the parties are fun, however, it is not a dominate factor at APSU. If you want to be involved, the opportunity is there.

Diversity: Bi-Racial Culture – The campus has students from all over the world, and APSU makes every student feel at easy. They have different events to encourage the races to come to as one.

Academics: I want to be a vet and APSU has a wonderful hands-on per-vet med professional program. The professors are wonderful and are there to help you in every aspect of your college education.

Academics: Get-To-Know-You Professors – I came to school here to be able to study Latin and English. I signed up for Greek because I heard the professor was great. I have loved nearly every professor I've had. They are available to help and get to know their students well. Class size is small to medium for most classes, so you never feel left out.

Campus Strictness: Policies Are Serious – You do not want to get caught drinking on campus. If you get caught, you will be on suspension. On the second time, you will be kicked out of the school. The administration tries to keep it a dry campus.

Campus Housing: New Dorms Are Taking Over – I personally do not live on campus, but I have stayed over night in the new freshman dorms. They are really nice and almost like hotel rooms without carpet. There is more construction going on, though, because APSU is completely redesigning the layout of dorms. I am pretty sure that these new dorms will be nice too.

Campus Dining: Great but Not the Best – The food at APSU is not bad at all. There is a wide variety of foods, along with a buffet and other food services around the campus. I'd have to say that I have always enjoyed the food.

Drug Safety: Not sure, but suspect it's present. Lots of alcohol parties at my off campus apartment complex. No peer pressure, most of my friends don't partake.

Facilities: Good overall. campus is very well landscaped and maintained. Good athletic facilities for non-athletes.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Safe Campus – I feel safe while on campus and have had no bad experiences.

Weather: In Tennessee, snow is something. It never gets over a few inches, and barely makes it to one every year. The only bad thing about snow is that it's coming later and later in the school year; it usually snows in the early spring and throws everything off. Missing classes, though it seems great at the time, really messes you up when midterms come around. The only hassling weather around campus besides slick roads and ice when it snows, is the rain. When it rains it pours, and when it pours, giant puddles appear. One street, Drane street, gets so flooded during bad rain that the campus police have to block it off so no one will drive through it. My first year here it got so deep in the middle of the street, it came up to my thighs! This is dramatic and doesn't happen all too often of course, but a good pair of rainboots and an umbrella is a must have for this campus. Puddles will swallow your precious canvas shoes and sneakers!

Computers: Time Yourself Well! The computers here at APSU are pretty decent and work well--printing is free in the library and other spots around campus save for the printing services area located in the basement; they charge if you're printing there but that's only because they work on posters and such. The library is the place with the most computers and the main hubb for homework. It gets pretty crowded inbetween class times, when people are rushing to print papers or research material last minute, and they're also busy during midterms, finals, and registration for new classes. There's also labs located in many of our buildings, I spend most of my time in the mac lab in the art building so I can use their up to date Adobe programs such as Photoshop. The computers in the music building all have Finale and other helpful things like keyboards underneath every desk. Many of the buildings have macs as the standard classroom computer, and fast internet. Wifi is iffy, some days it works, some days it doesn't, but overall it works well when it's on! My connection with my personal computer works well in my dorm, though it breaks up in our living room. Not having a computer won't kill you though, for as I've stated above, there's plenty around campus to use, even if the library's full!

Academics: Austin Peay Is Great! I'm a student at Austin Peay State University here in Clarksville, TN. I am an art education major, and I'm in my third year of classes. Because it took me a while to come to a decision on my major, I'll most likely have to stay here an extra year, ending with an extra semester of student teaching. The professors here in the art department are amazingly talented, and know a lot about their field. We have a variety of artists as professors; photographers--both digital and traditional, printmakers, graphic designers, collage artists, painters, sculptors, ect. They are all very helpful and make themselves as available as possible to help students when they need it. The environment within the art department is the best! Being an art major means a lot of time in the studio, there for living in the Trahern art building, thus everyone gets to know each other pretty well and everyone is always ready to help one another. And when I decided to switch to art education the professor welcomed me with open arms and encouraged me to stick with it, letting me know that she has an amazing placement rate so I don't have to worry so much about finding a job once I graduate. I wouldn't want to change my time here if I could, I've had good and bad experiences but overall they've helped me grow into my own person. Definitely look into coming here if you're needed a cheaper alternative to art school! It's worth it! It's nice, small, and quite here at APSU.

Overall Experience: I hate it. a greek and military school. if you arent one of those you are a nobody.

Weather: The weather of Clarksville, Tennessee is so bipolar. It will be warm one day and freezing the next. It rains at least once a week so you better own some rainboots. I wish it would stay one temperature for more than one day, because I never know if i will need a jacket or not.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Not Very Strict – This school is not very strict on anything except for drug and alcohol use. The only way you can get in trouble is if you are being obvious and get caught with it. The dorm rules really aren't a big deal and there's easy ways to get around alot of the rules. Class attendance is mandatory and a grade for very few classes. You are treated like an adult here.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: At Austin Peay State University, I have never seen so much diversity in my life. There's so many different races here it's impossible not to notice, there's also alot of different races living together in the dorms, intermingling everyone together. There's people from all over meaning very different economic situations all over. There's a gay-straight alliance on campus to bring together the different sexually oriented individuals and there is also alot of different groups and organizations to join if you want to meet others with your same religious or political beliefs. This is such a diverse campus for every situation.

Off-Campus Housing: There are several different options for living off campus at APSU. Lots of them are cheaper than living on campus, but there are others that are very expensive for a college student. If you need a place to stay off campus, expect to find one at Austin Peay because there are unlimited options.
