Majors: Getting into the Engineering Program here at Augustana College wasn't too bad at all. As long as you stayed on top of your school work and grades you will have no problem. During your freshman or sophomore year you must talk with your academic adviser in order to declare your desired major. To do this you are given a small sheet in which you, your current adviser, and the head of your chosen department, must sign. Then that's it. If you find out that this program is not for you then you can always change to something else.

Academics: I feel that an Engineering or Engineering Physics major at Augustana College is a great base to have. If you choose to pursue this major you can be put into a 3-2 program in which you take your general education courses at Augustana and then transfer to another engineering school where you can receive your bachelors degree in the field of your choice. Another benefit of this major is that there are lots of internship opportunities within the neighboring area that can offer you summer internships and even paid internships during school.

Academics: The academics program here at Augustana was a major reason in my decision to attend this college. Not only do they have an Engineering Physics program which I'm currently in but also the class sizes were a small enough that I could talk directly with my professors with help on homework or advice about anything. Besides physics there are a ton or Pre-med, biology, chemistry, and music majors that you can choose from. With this being a liberal arts college as well you are required to take other courses that fulfill different perspectives in the real world.

Off-Campus Dining: There are quite a few fast food places neighboring the school that are usually open pretty late if you want a late night snack. What makes these places great is that you can get a lot of food for pretty cheep if you specify that you are a student at Augustana. There are also some privately owned restaurants that are very good such as Harris Pizza and Dr. Gyros. But if none of these places appeal to you and you have a car you can take a 10-15 minute drive down to John Deere Road where there are a plethora of sit-down restaurants you can go to. My favorite of these places are Carlos O'Kelly's or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Campus Housing: Erickson and Westerlin are the best large dorms to live in on campus. Some of the dorms where the freshmen usually live don't have air conditioning, which is the downside. Augustana also offers TLAs that are set up like condos, and those tend to be really nice. The nicest housing, which is also the most expensive, is located across a few old houses that the school bought. The houses are hold but charming and are fairly spacious.

Local Atmosphere: Rock Island isn't particularly large, but the Quad cities are fairly large overall. In Rock Island, there are many parks, the Mississippi River, golfing, and a state park. There are bars, restaurants, shows, and many other things downtown in the District, and they offer free transportation for students to go there or anywhere else in the Quad cities. There is a ton to do in Davenport, Iowa which is only 10 minutes away from the school. There are two huge malls in Davenport and Moline, and they Quad cities have a few major festivals throughout the year.

Campus Strictness: The campus has strict policies in place but doesn't always enforce them. As long as the parties are quiet and under control, they usually won't make a big deal out of it. The Rock Island police tend to make a bigger deal out of parties especially if people are coming and going or being loud. If you're going to throw a party, keep the drunk people under control and be respectful of the neighbors.

Greek Life: The Greeks throw the majority of parties at the school, but they do allow anyone to come for most of them. Over half of the school is involved in some Greek group, although only a few of the fraternities are nationally affiliated because Augustana is a private school. Most of the Greek houses are close by the campus.

Campus Housing: Freshmen dorms at school vary. Some have air conditioning and big rooms while others have no air conditioning and tiny rooms. Upperclassmen housing is much better on the inside than the exterior, but there are no serious problems.

Nightlife: Once in a while there is a semi-decent party, but at such a small school there is never enough variety among the people attending the parties. Pretty much all the clubs are for people 21 and up. It is way more fun to go to the house of someone you know and have a group of personal friends party together. There's better conversation and you know you can trust the people you are around.

Guys & Girls: Augustana is pretty diverse, which in my opinion keeps it interesting. You will with out a dout, encounter every walk of life here. If you're an "Augie" you are driven, intellectual and creative. I see beauty everyday! Lets not forget beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And just when you think you've seen it all, think again.

Facilities: Being a Delta Chi Theta has changed my life forever. Augustana supports the Greek system and I am truly grateful for that. The social scene and support that comes along with it, is like no other. You never feel alone and there is always something to look foward to. Academics at Augie is a challenge, which I welcome. The Science program and cadaver lab will keep you up talking for days!! There is few like it in the country.

Facilities: Augustana College is an amazing school. They're decication and oppurtunities are limitless. There isn't anything you can't do. If there isn't a club or organization that suits you're interests, then Augustana is more then happy to help you create one. Infact, they encourage it! The activities are endless. I also enjoy the oppurtunity to volunteer for community service. It is important to give back to the community which is something that has always been important to me. Augustana has given me a home and a family.

Campus Dining: I work in food service so I have opened up more to some of the foods because I know where they come from, how the are prepared, etc. However, there is always room for improvements. Both cafeterias have their signatures that bring students in but there could always be new dishes added.

Off-Campus Dining: The best restaurants are the ones that are within walking distance and have Augustanan Student Specials. There are a lot of these! HyVee chinese is the BEST place to eat!

Facilities: Greek Life – Our campus has sororities and fraternities that are not nationwide, yet still give us that experience. The Greek life system is a very tight community on campus that allows students to become involved in volunteering, social event planning, leadership positions, and many, many more.

Health & Safety: Trusted With My Life – The campus security is always in sight it seems. There are also blue calls around campus that I can push and they will arrive immediately. Sometimes over breaks, the campus will get broken into, but if and when that happens, the Rock Island police are involved.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Easy Peasy – I never have any problems what so ever. The office will take my submissions from the FASFA and get my rewards prepared. If they need any additional info, they will fax, email, or call. They are also very easy to communicate with!

Nightlife: The district is a great time, if you are 21 or have a fake, House parties are fun but can be very hot sweaty and gross.

Local Atmosphere: Overall Augie – Greek life is what really keeps Augustana going. It is a small school to know enough but not everyone. When needed the campus really comes together to achieve goals. right now there is a lot of construction which stinks but its good overall.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: You typically only live off-campus junior or senior year. I would just make sure you're still relatively close to the school and not too far away from the campus activities/classrooms.

3 College Junior

Parking: Parking can be challenging at times because you have to make sure that you abide by the rules for each lot. Also, make sure to get a parking pass from security for your visitors so they don't get a ticket.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: On Campus Activities – There are not many activities to do outside of the college, but there are many activities offered to do inside of the campus which is very helpful.

4 College Junior

Academics: Science Majors – This field of study should not be underestimated. It is challenging yet it provides enough information and support to succeed in this area. It is good to stay on top of reading for classes so that the information sinks in easier. If you are motivated and dedicated to this field, you should be successful.

4 College Junior

Academics: The classes at first may seem pointless, but I found to enjoy them because they were not your typical class. They are required for first-year students and they help students improve writing and reading skills. At first, I thought I would not like these courses, but after taking all three, I appreciated the different lessons I learned from those classes.
