College Sophomore

Majors: Behavioral Science – I am very happy with the BS program at ASU. The professors are very knowledgeable in their particular disiplines, and they are very helpful. My goal is to be a probation officer.

Athletics: I am doing most of my school online and just know that they have a basketball team.

Health & Safety: Campus Security – I have not used campus security except to get my school badge. They do have a very real presence and have been very friendly when I have seen them on campus. I feel very secure on campus because they are so present.

Campus Housing: No Dorms – There are no longer dorms available at Athens State University.

5 College Senior

Majors: Internship Opportunities – In my program, all of my professors are very well connected in the contracting world and work hard to help students find internships.

3 College Senior

Facilities: Campus Aesthetics – Athens has a beautiful campus. Some of the buildings are a bit out of date, but fairly well maintained.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Safety Services – Athens has a really small campus, but I feel the school is well monitored and very safe.

College Junior

Athletics: So Small There Are None – Athens State University is very small and does not have an athletics program.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Small and Beautiful – The campus facilities are beautiful. The buildings are old brick with columns, there is a fountain in the center of the campus and plenty of green space. The library is well equipped with computers, very helpful staff, and, of course, books. There seems to be something always happening on campus. The Fiddler's Convention in the fall is a major event that draws people from beyond the state of Alabama and is quite fun.

Academics: Making a Capable Educator Out of Me – As an Early Childhood Education Major at Athens State University, which is one of the few two year Junior and Senior year universities in the nation, the opportunities seem to be endless. The program is rigorous but not overbearing and it is clearly preparing me to be a very capable educator. The curriculum thoroughly covers as many aspects of education as you can imagine. The facilities on campus are very well kept and updated when necessary. In the realm of an internship, Athens State does not wait until the last semester to send education students into a classroom. I spend 6 to 10 days every semester in classrooms of local elementary schools shadowing at least one teacher. This opportunity gives me a chance to see how the principles and ideals I am learning as a student apply in the real world, as well as giving me a chance to make positive impressions on those that may be my future coworkers and bosses.

Weather: It's Alabama. The summer is hot as ever and the winters are freezing!

2 College Junior

Guys & Girls: This campus mostly contains your average Southerner.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Average Fast Food Places – There are lots of fast food places, like McDonalds and Burger King. What the area lacks in diversity, they make up for in cleanliness. I've never had a bad experience in one of the surrounding restaurants.

4 College Junior

Parking: Car Not Necessary for Campus Travel – The campus is fairly compact and easily accessed by walking, even for a disabled person like myself. A car is necessary for travel off campus though.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Seems to Be Pretty Clean – The area seems to be very safe and I've noticed no drug related activity.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Challenging and Flexible – I currently take online and blended courses. I feel ASU does an excellent job of trying to meet the needs of atypical students. Professors are cooperative and very friendly. The curriculum is challenging and ASU has a reputation of being difficult but in a good way. It's not somewhere that you can breeze through without applying yourself which makes me proud of my accomplishments at this campus.

Scholarships: Financial aid needs help, they work very slow and when you have your paper work to the department, you get reminders that your payment is due. It takes a very long time to get the aid completed.

Academics: Professor Bell – She is the BEST professor!! I had her for Stats I and II and she could not have done a better job.

5 College Senior

Academics: Elementary Education – I love my education classes. I feel like I learn what I need to know to be able to teach children. The classes have a lot of work, but the teachers are great at working with you if you have any problems. The campus is nice and frienly. The staff are very helpful.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Athens State University is a beautiful campus. Most of the buildings are very old but they are all beautiful. The courtyard is a great place to study especially in the fall when the weather is so nice.

5 College Junior

Computers: Technology on Campus – Printing on campus is wonderful. So many college students have other worries than buying ink for printers or a printer in general. At Athens State they provide you with 150 free copies each semester which is a blessing. I have spent many mornings and nights in that library printing and it has saved me a lot of worry!

2 College Senior

Facilities: There are no sports activities, cafeteria, or on campus living here.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Fast Food – Off campus dining would be regular fast food restaurants. Which are all about 5 mile to 10 mile radius.

3 College Senior

Parking: Parking is limited, but they have added some to make the situation better.

1 College Senior

Campus Strictness: No Tolerance – Athens is a strict city. The police station is a block from the University. They do not tolerate any misconduct of any type.
