Student Body: The model is online. Military personnel seem to be a major component of my cohort, with general labor individuals. The individuals seem to be attempting to increase their marketability in the workforce through higher education. Many appear to currently balance work life and college courses.

Recent Alumnus

Career Services: I have not checked to see what type of post-grad services there are yet.

Recent Alumnus

Campus Resources: Since I am attending online, I do not have access to campus resources.

Online Courses: I would prefer a classroom setting, but Ashford has made it possible for me to go to school online. As a single working mother, I cannot attend traditional classes. Online learning fit my current situation and Ashford has been great so far. The workload of a few courses has been overwhelming, but I made it through and even made the Dean's List. I look forward to earning my degree.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Ashford's staff went above and beyond to help me get my financial aid. I would have likely given up and not enrolled from frustration if my advisors had not held my hand and guided me through the process. I am very grateful for all the help and will be beginning my second year in September.

Academic Flexibility: When I first started at the community college, advising didn't help me as much as I would have liked or as Ashford University advising does. I feel that if I would have had better advising before transferring I probably would have my bachelor's degree completed or closer than I am now. I feel that my experience at Ashford University has been a great experience, I have learned alot more at this college than I did at the other college I attended. It seems that the other students and instructors are more respectful and are there to learn instead of not taking their education as seriously as I do.

Career Services: It is hard for many students to find a decent job immediatly after graduating since they are still new at what they just finished. The career center does have job opportunities, but many employers are looking for so much experience.

Online Courses: I prefer taking online courses rather than traditional classroom since I can work at my own pace, as well as have extra time to do homework and read my textbook instead of traveling to school and sitting in the classroom for that time. Traditional classrooms you get to meet face to face with classmates and instructors, but initially I am getting my education to learn and not socialize with alot of people since education is important to me.

Career Services: I get emails inviting me to use the career center. There is help with resumes and networking.

4 College Senior

Campus Resources: The student portal is always available when I need it and runs fast and smooth.

Campus Resources: The online resources are great. Everything is easy to find and use. The instructors are helpful and quick to respond to emails.

Student Body: The part of the school that I am familiar with are online students. I don't know that much about them all but I do know that they come from all over the country. I have even met a few that are from other countries.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: The school does not stand by its sense of integrity.

College Senior

Career Services: I'm not in the year of studies to have used these but I know they have services that I've heard have been very helpful and when it is my time I do look forward to using them.

Online Courses: I think they work a lot better for me than a traditional classroom setting. I feel I am more disciplined when it comes to reaching my assignment deadlines. The required communication within the classroom also forces me to participate more than I would if I was in a classroom. Ashford has five week accelerated courses so the workload can be heavy but if you are used to how things work there, it's easy to get through it. Most teachers I've worked with have been great in feedback and responding to questions, but every now and then you have few who fall through the cracks who don't respond to emails in a timely manner which can be detrimental to your work if you don't understand it.

Campus Resources: I'm online so there's not a whole lot of resources in regards to that, but for military members there have specific veteran advisers and there are honor society fraternities for those who are traditionally in the classroom and they allow you to come out and be a part of the graduation ceremonies so you aren't just receiving your diploma in the mail.

4 College Senior

Student Body: I currently attend online and I'm military and seeing the students in my classes are all different. There are young ones just starting college, military members, or working class people who are finishing their schooling or changing careers. They are all over the U.S. and come from different backgrounds, it's a nice melting pot for learning from one another.

4 College Senior

Career Services: I an sure the University has a career services department and I assume they perform amply, although upon graduation I will be putting up my own shingle (opening my own business/company therefore, I will not be using their services.

3 College Senior

Online Courses: With online courses you will be on a self learning curve, if you need tutoring you will need to seek it online, other than at school.

4 College Junior

Campus Resources: They have a writing center, library and different resources to answer questions.

4 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: I have not been able to find scholarships but I have not had a problem with finical aid.

5 College Junior

Online Courses: Ashford has a specific on line program. It is easy to access the library and writing center.

4 College Junior

Academic Experience: I am learning a great deal from the early education program.

4 College Senior

Academic Experience: Par for all schools in the 4 year category, some instructors will go the extra mile while others seem too busy or are overloaded with classes.

4 College Junior

Academic Experience: I am currently in the Early Childhood Education program at Ashford University. My current professor is a wonderful communicator. She sends e mails and when she is grading papers she writes in detail corrections and advice. The school itself is difficult to communicate with, you have a separate advisor finical aid officer and transcript officer.

Ashford University provides a great learning experience in a very unique environment. If you ask online Ashford students if they're happy with their choice to attend school there, most would probably say that they would do it all over again if they could, mainly because of its flexibility and convenience with schedules. The instructors are helpful and respond to questions in a timely manner, usually within one to two days. The instructors are helpful and encourage students to constantly look for better answers. Online classes are very convenient to students with complicated schedules; students can complete assignments at their own leisure, yet within the time constraints of deadlines. Most students find no problem completing their assignments.

A drawback of being an online student is that you don't have the opportunity to really check out the organizations or physical resources Ashford offers. However, the University does have an online library that students can go into from the Student Portal. The library is easy to use, and students can usually find most of the sources they need when writing a research paper. Even though it isn't your typical college interaction, the instructors and classmates are friendly and very helpful when you have questions. Students are able to help each other in unique ways. In one case, a student didn't have her book for class yet, and another student was able to scan a copy of the assignment and e-mail an attachment to her. Classmates are also helpful in post discussions and give each other timely advice and wisdom.
