Facilities: Doc Brown Gets What Doc Brown Wants. Over the last year Arkansas Tech University has shut down the Theatre, and is considering to drop Theatre Majors as a whole, along with the pool, which is used by not only the swim team but also the high-school and the community. The reasons for shutting down these facilities was lack of funding and safety concerns, even though both wouldn't take long to get back up to proper working conditions, and while the theatre was in poor condition it was a "black box" theatre because the school President didn't want to set aside funding to build them an actual building, he would much rather spend the schools money on things he enjoys such as football. Just last semester the football field had a new fence constructed all the way around the entire compound, new trees, a hill?, and an eatery built yet Doc Brown can't seem to find funding for the arts. It's atrocious and disgraceful.

Local Atmosphere: Big City Not Much to Do – Honestly, Russellville itself is the biggest city I know with not much to do. However, the surrounding areas, within an hour or so provide all the fun and activities you could need, Dardanelle, about 10-15 min. away, has rock climing, mountain climbing, mountain bike trails, and Mount Nebo. Also, Conway has plenty of things to do and is only around 30-45 min. away. For even more options, Little Rock is only around an hour to an hour and a half from the school.

Parking: Parking is HORRIBLE. Due to a lack of dorms, nearly half our students live in rented hotels or apartment complexes. This means half our students are driving from off campus. Getting a parking space means getting there at 8am or playing musical spaces for at least an hour.

Drug Safety: Drugs, Alcohol.. Hardly ever seen. It's definitely one of the safest schools I could attend. They actually made our campus tobacco free when I started in '09. :)

Academics: Journalism/Criminal Justice – For Criminal Justice, the best part of the program is the professors. All of them are extremely knowledgeable in their subjects.
For Journalism, the strongest point is the hands-on experience we get. :)

Drug Safety: None That I See – Since I don't live on campus I am not around drinking or drug use, and I am quite happy about that.

Campus Dining: There are several places off campus to get food, but not enough to keep you from getting tired of the same stuff. The campus cafe is nice but I seldom get food from there, you either have to have a meal plan to eat there or have cash on hand.

Scholarships: Money Can Be Easy – I received a great deal of financial aid coming to this school and it was of good use to me. I bought my first car with some of the money I got after paying for school and buyging all my books. Don't wait to late to sign up for financial aid because you may not get all that you feel like you deserve, but if you need any help you can go to those in the financial office.

Nightlife: Fun Time – There is only one club in the town and you must be 21 to get in, but who needs a club when you are here for school. Occassionaly there are parties thrown on campus so they are easy to get to if you stay on campus and can be fun depending on who is having the party.

Off-Campus Dining: Let's Eat – There are may different places around campus that you can eat and they are cheap and good. Whataburger is a main attraction to those from out of town and it is good. There are other places such as McDonald's, Taco John's, Taco Bell, La Huerta, and New China. Not only are they good, but they give student discounts.

Majors: No Challenges – Whichever degree you decide to pursue, Tech offers it. There are many different areas of study and it is very easy to get into either of them. There are no challenges unless you have a low ACT score. In this case, you are required to take remedial classes before you take your core classes.

Scholarships: The ladies in the financial aid office deal with so many students that it shows in how they go about their workday. They do not tell you everything that you need all at once, they prolong it over a period of time where it is commonly too late when they let you know that paperwork is due. They are not very helpful.

Campus Strictness: The Campus Police SUCK! The campus police at Arkansas Tech are very strict about parking in the right section. They are very strict about alcohol and drug policies.

Guys & Girls: Most of the guys and girls at Arkansas Tech are locals from Russellville or surrounding small towns. They are very nice and polite most of the time. You have your few that are rude. We have all different types of personalities here too. Its a good mixed campus.

Drug Safety: ATU-Drugs and Alcohol – To my knowlege there's little to no drug/drinking issues. We are in a dry county so all drinking and things alike are well hidden.

Local Atmosphere: Russellville, Arkansas is a medium size town. Not to much stuff to do around here. Living on campus they make sure we have activities to do. There are other towns around us that have amusement parks, thats not to far from us. We also have lots of restaurants in Russellville, a few parks, to go hiking or have a picnic. Ever get a chance to come through, stop by and check out the school.

Majors: Professional Studies – Arkansas Tech has great instructors and counselors. So far the faculty that I have interacted with have worked hard to help me solve any problem concerning college that has come my way! Being a person with many disabilities this support has helped me to continue to strive to reach my goal.

Academics: Since coming to Arkansas Tech I have realised that there is still some kind and caring people left in this world. I am a 52 year old grandmother working on a bachlors degree and I have several disabilities. The faculty as well as the students have shown me nothing but continued support. Because of this support I have learned so much and hopefully will graduate in December.
