Drug Safety: The only drug that i see being used at Arcadia is really only weed. Some will do pills or whatever, but i dont see much of it.

College Junior

Overall Experience: Perfect Small Campus Vs. High Tuition – It is hard for me to choose a grade for this topic because I really do love Arcadia. It is a nice small campus, which is exactly what I was looking for. The class sizes are smaller so the interactions with the professors are positive and the professors know their students on personal levels. I never feel like I am just a number in my classes and I feel that if I had chosen to go to a larger school with lecture classes I would not have the same interactions with my professors and my grades would suffer. I love Arcadia so I feel like I would choose it again if I could do it all over but I do not know for sure because of the high tuition cost. The tuition has reached $43,000 and the school just is not worth putting myself into as much debt as I already have.

Transportation: Buses Are the Way to Go – The public transportation at Arcadia is decent. The bus stops are right outside the main entrance to the campus and others across the street from campus. The bus fee is only two dollars each way and the bus can take you anywhere. They do not run all night, they stop at 2:00 a.m. There is also a train station within walking distance (it is about a 5-10 minute walk) that can be taken to other campuses or directly into Philadelphia. It also does not run all night.

Off-Campus Dining: Michaels Is Across the Street – At Arcadia, there is a restaurant conveniently located directly across the street from campus called Michaels. It is open 24/7 and has good food for low prices. Their popular items include the cheese fries, pizza fries and their chocolate milkshakes are the best. Students from Arcadia are there at least once throughout the day, and many of them find there way to Michaels after a night out. There are also many fast food places such as McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, and Subway by campus, but you need a car and it is about a two minute drive away.

Weather: The weather is not terrible but it is not amazing either. When it rains the pathways become flooded and it is a pain to walk to classes from some dorms. When it snows a lot the potted trees on the walkways get top heavy and fall over making it hard to walk along the paths. Classes are not far from the dorms so it is not that bad. When the weather is nice students sit/lay out on the soccer field, which some call "Beaver Beach."

Athletics: We're D3 – Arcadia is a Division Three (D3) school when it comes to Athletics. The student involvement in the Athletics is average. Some of the teams are smaller so they do not do so well and have poor records. We do not have a football team so the school spirit is not really there and because there is no school spirit the fan support is not that great. Since we are a Division Three school the school tends to focus more on fixing the facilities and not the soccer fields, baseball fields, etc.

Diversity: They Call Us "Ar-Gay-Dia" – At AU there are many different types of races and religions, it is a very diverse campus. There are also many people who are homosexual, so people who do not attend AU call our school "Ar-gay-dia." They gay population at Arcadia do not have problems fitting in with the rest of the campus, they socialize with other homosexuals in clubs as well as heterosexuals in other social settings on campus.

Overall Experience: Random Atmoshere – The atmosphere at Arcadia is SO random and SO diverse. The jocks and the theatre people are mixed and one in the same. It's a great community that is very understanding. Although there are parties, you can avoid them without being a loser.

Greek Life: I don't even think there is a greek life at Arcadia. If there is, I didn't even know about it!

Academics: Communication Department – My major at Arcadia is a cross between Video Communications and Journalism. The opportunities at my college are pretty great, you just need to go looking for them. As a first year student, I was able to hook myself a wedding job, which means I will film and distribute their video. This kind of opportunity was emailed to me, but I had to set up the interview and more. Although I wasn't at the top of the list for work study, I was able to procure a job in the communication department by jumping the list.

Facilities: Study Abroad – Everyone here talks about studying abroad. It's pretty encompassing and worthwhile. Study abroad can happen any year here, from the first semester of college to the final year of college, as long as you fulfill your requirements. The school offers a good variety of destinations and is always open to new places that they do not have a program with.

Campus Strictness: Strictness Is Average – As long as you follow the rules, it's not too bad. Like anywhere, as long as people are quiet, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Quiet Place – There isn't much to do. But only a 30 minute train ride away from Center City, Philadelphia. It's peaceful and quiet.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Arcadia is definitely willing to work with students to get them the financial aid they need. They will do just about anything to help you out. Now and then, a few forms will get lost and you'll have to complete them again but the hassle is mostly worth it.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Not Too Much – There isn't too much around the immediate area but there are some good Chinese and Pizza Options. For the good stuff, you'd have to head up to the Willow Grove Mall--a 15 minute drive away.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Health & Safety – I have never felt unsafe at Arcadia University. The Campus Security is friendly and helpful and is always willing to help students out.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Lots of Personal Attention – Classes at Arcadia are notorious for their small size and personal attention. In nearly all my three semesters here, my teachers have known my name, where I live, and my interests. I can only recount one class where my teacher did not know my name. Like most schools, you get the range between the boring and mundane, fun and engaging, the wild and crazy, and the insane and difficult teachers, but Arcadia does a good job of hiring a good mix of teacher personalities within each major. My only critique is that a lot of times students wind up with the teachers who care too much about their subjects...good if their a great teacher, bad if they aren't so great at bringing their passion down to a student's level.

Weather: If You Live in Oak Wear Wellies – well if you live in oak and it rains its like crossing a great river when walking to campus. the side walk becomes a pond and so does the road next to the side walk to sometimes cars will speed by and splash you with water. also the walk of pride can get pretty swamped with water when it rains so be careful on campus too.

2 College Junior

Nightlife: Just Wait Till Your 21 – things are all good if you are 21 but other than that there is usually nothing to do at night on the weekends so most people go home. the campus is so small most parties get busted and the students get written up by the RAs.

1 College Junior

Campus Dining: Could Deff Be Better With the Money We Spend – the dining hall is pretty bad. i mean they usually have the same things everyday and turn left overs into something that it shouldnt be...like tomato sauce for spaghetti into tomato soup. the vegetables are always covered in butter or geese and are never fully cooked. the best thing there is the sandwich and salad bar.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Needs Increase in Men – There are way more girls than guys, hardly any good looking guys

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: The library is really nice, but they don't even have any cleaning facilities on the weekends so it gets gross fast

2 College Junior

Athletics: They aren't a big part of the school and moving them away from the center oval is a terrible idea

5 College Junior

Computers: The internet is great and I've never experienced any problems

4 College Senior

Parking: Other than not being able to have a car as a first year student, parking is great at Oak Summit, and on campus at night. During the day, it is crowded, but students who live in Oak Summit or Manor shouldn't be driving to campus anyway. I'm glad they added an extra parking lot at Oak Summit.

Grey Towers Castle
Grey Towers Castle
Grey Towers Castle Grey Towers Castle Arcadia's Grey Towers Castle is possibly the University's most unique and special building. The castle was built in the late 19th century and has been declared a historic landmark. Freshmen can dorm in the castle, and many events and activities take place there, as well.

Arcadia has a great close-knit community of students that makes everyone feel very welcome. It is a great University for personalized attention, with professors who are all very helpful and knowledgeable in their areas and work well with students. In addition to their dedication, most professors have the highest level of recognized achievement in their fields, so they know what they are talking about. Outside of classroom activities and involvement, there are also many study abroad opportunities, where students can meet people from all over the world.

The best way to have an amazing experience is to get involved right away. While some feel that Arcadia does not offer much in the way of partying or crazy nightlife, it has other perks, including its small community of people passionate about what they are doing. Get involved, talk to people, and you'll have a great college experience.
