Athletics: Sports Are Limited at AU – At Arcadia, sports are not the main focus. we don't have a football team, but we do have swimming, tennis, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, cheerleading, and dance. However, even though we don't have that many sports, our players take it very seriously. I am a tennis player, and our team, as well as the other teams, do really tough workouts and put our all into all of our matches and events. It's important that we have fun doing what we like, even though we are only a division 3 school

Diversity: There are lots of different races and religions at Arcadia, but the Caucasian population still outweighs them all. However, our college tries to reach out to other races and religions. We have a black Awareness Society, which I am a member of. We also have Latin Club, American Christian Fellowship, and Jewish Club. However, our school is known for international students; they have an international student club.

Academics: Being a Bio Pre-Med Major – I think the biology pre-med major is good for anyone trying to go into the biological science. It's always good to have pre-med requirements under your belt, just in case you want to attend med school afterwards. the workload is heavy, so you need a good math and science background. the hardest classes are Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Comparative Anatomy. However, if you're ambitious, it's not that bad.
The best thing about this major is the internship and job opportunities. As you probably know, pre-med students are expected to be hard working, studious individuals. Therefore, work-study jobs, as well as internships at free clinics and hospitals, are way easier to attain.
As a bio pre-med student, the lab rooms and library are going to be your best friends. the curriculum is tough and packed with info, but, as I said earlier, you can do it if you put your mind to it. :)
Even though Arcadia is a private school that mainly focuses on the humanities and studying abroad, the science and mathematics departments are amazing. The class sizes are super low, so its easy to talk one-on-one with the profs. my favorite professors are Dr. Zheng and Dr. Meg Wright. Zheng teaches calc 2 and Wright is the Bio prof. Just like the majority of our profs, they are so down-to-earth, and willing to help the student in any way they can.
I really like the atmosphere of Arcadia. It feels just like home to me, and every time a leave, i can't wait to head back. :)

Nightlife: Right outside of philly, there are TONS of bars, clubs and places to hang out. You can hop in a taxi and go anywhere

Off-Campus Housing: There are tons of apartment complexes very close by. Beacuse we are close to philly, there are tons of options that vary in price range.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: I love the campus (the size, the location). Classes are small and personal. Biology is huge here. We have a great physical therapy program. Similalrly, we are very big in study abroad. I got to spend spring break in SPAIN for $500!

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: There is public transportation available on Easton Road, as well as a train station, however it can get costly and expensive.

Facilities: Arcadia University has been in the process of updating all of the facilities, with all academic buildings being no older than 15 years old! This year there is a new student center currently being built, which includes a new cafeteria, auditorium, and social gathering setting. The library is less than 5 years old and is absolutely spectacular as well.

Academics: International Business and Culture – Arcadia University statistically is the number one college in the United States for study abroad programs, so it is no surprise that they have an outstanding International Business and Culture program. For each student, they require to develop proficiency in the language of their choice, and require that they study abroad in another country, (preferably in the country of the language studied), while still applying all of your financial aid to your abroad experience! Arcadia University has great new facilities and their Business department is spectacular. My advisor is extremely helpful with my course planning and my social experience. Overall, I would recommend my school and program to anyone serious about a career abroad!

Drug Safety: Party Drinks – There are kids on campus that smoke pot and such, but not a lot. Most people stick to alcohol.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: We are a huge school for study abroad, so we do have a wide variety of students. While technically they only represent a small portion, we are a small school anyway so it doesn't really matter.

3 College Freshman

Computers: The computer labs are very reliable. There is always a computer available in the library or other buildings computer labs. The only problem is that the campus Wi-Fi isn't always the most reliable. You definitely want to bring an ethernet cable.

Weather: Arcadia experiences all four seasons. We get snow, rain, wind, sun, warm weather. The weather is pretty consistent and it doesn't rain too much. Overall the weather is average, but nice. When it's nice out, everyone is outside, either playing frisbee or laying on blankets in the grass. When it snows, everyone takes advantage and goes outside to play, either building snowmen, having campus-wide snowball fights, or going sledding.

Guys & Girls: Man-Less Campus – Arcadia has almost an eighty percent female student body. For girls, it's slim pickings and loss of standards when it comes to having a boyfriend. For guys, even those who feel they're ugly or have low self-esteem, it's almost guaranteed you'll have a girl friend within the first three months of being here. Alot of the students here are very hipster. They like wearing vintage clothes, fedora hats, skinny jeans, oversized shirts, scarves as head bands, etc. As for social life, there isn't much of one. There is no greek life and no football team, so parties on campus almost never happen. There is, however, Head Quarters, which is a house owned by upper classmen who throw parties every weekend. It's almost impossible to get to, though, if you don't have a car or don't know anyone with a car.

Campus Dining: Rarely Edible – The dining options on campus consist of either mostly edible, barely edible, or not edible at all. Food scraps or leftovers from Monday's meals are often used as Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday's meals as well. Bugs have been known to be found in the food. Cockroaches are most often the main ones being found. There are also mice in the dining hall as well. The safest bet would be to eat from the salad bar, which can actually be delicious and fresh. The hot, cooked meals are the worst. There is also a sandwich stand which is a good option as students have alot of choices to choose from. There really is no food places around campus within walking distance other than a diner across the street. The diner is decently priced and the food is pretty good, a nice break from dining hall selections.

Facilities: Mostly Great but a Little Slow Sometimes – Arcadia's study abroad program is of course excellent. However, make sure you get everything done early and try to prepare your materials way in advance. Arcadia and the College of Global Studies can be a little slow in getting paperwork and materials through. Also, you have to be persistent with financial head, deans, advisers. But once you get their attention they are VERY helpful and amiable.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Limited Selection – There are not many restaurants within walking distance of Arcadia. There is a lot of stuff in the shopping district but you really need a car or have to get on a bus for to get there.

2 College Senior

Parking: Could Be Worse, Could Be Better – The "pit" is reason enough for the grade.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Relatively Safe – Safety on campus in never an issue; usually just minor occurrences

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Quiet Glenside – Glenside is a small quiet town but it is a fifteen minute train ride from Philadelphia. I love the fact that I can enjoy the huslte and bustle of city life yet come back home to a serene environment.

4 College Junior

Academics: Physical Therapy is number seven in the nation. Arcadia has wonderful advisors and the curriculum is easy to finish in four years. Freshman get to study abroad for under 1,000 dollars.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Sports Are Division 3 – Soccer players are stuck up!! Every one else is ok.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: With good friends and campus involvement, I've learned to love this school. You have to give in what you want to get out of it and make the most of it.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: I Understand It's for Safty – The public safety and RAs crack down every opportunity they get. I understand it's for safety, but if i park my car in a lot I'm not supposed to be in I really don't see a boot as being necessary, as well as if I'm trying to have a bit of fun with friends in Oak Summit, well, lets just say I'd rather not because of the strictness.

3 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: Upperclassman Dorms Are Better Than the Rest – Freshman dorms are not great at all, lots of dilemmas especially with mice, etc. For uperclassmen, Oak Summit and Manor are best for off campus (but walkable distance) and directly on campus you should definitely shoot for Knight Hall.

Grey Towers Castle Grey Towers Castle Arcadia's Grey Towers Castle is possibly the University's most unique and special building. The castle was built in the late 19th century and has been declared a historic landmark. Freshmen can dorm in the castle, and many events and activities take place there, as well.

Arcadia has a great close-knit community of students that makes everyone feel very welcome. It is a great University for personalized attention, with professors who are all very helpful and knowledgeable in their areas and work well with students. In addition to their dedication, most professors have the highest level of recognized achievement in their fields, so they know what they are talking about. Outside of classroom activities and involvement, there are also many study abroad opportunities, where students can meet people from all over the world.

The best way to have an amazing experience is to get involved right away. While some feel that Arcadia does not offer much in the way of partying or crazy nightlife, it has other perks, including its small community of people passionate about what they are doing. Get involved, talk to people, and you'll have a great college experience.
