3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Getting Better – Arcadia's campus life sucks. But it's getting better and there are lots of opportunites to excel. There's a very obvious "big fish, small pond" mentality.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: 4 Seasons – Summer months are brutal but we're home then so it's not a big deal. Fall and Spring are short lived but Winter is bitter cold.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Freshman Have It Best – Freshman dorms are pretty nice. Free internet and laundry. Typically two to a room with enough space that doesn't make you feel cramped. Kistler is the nicest. Oak Summit is pretty crappy but they are fixing the apartments so Wifi is more accessible. Good luck getting a spot though before they're all taken. Better to live off campus in the Towers.

2 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Dull Night Life – You really have to squint behind rock and tree to find any decent party spot. If you're lucky enough to gain access into an upperclassmen party, they typically still suck. Either befriend someone at Temple and Drexel or make your own fun.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Arcadia policy is basically "if we don't see it, we won't report you". People definitely drink on campus but you have to be more discrete than is preferable, especially if there are RA'a roaming about. However, upperclassmen parties are pretty accessible off campus.

Facilities: Unique and Quiet – Arcadia is very unique. It is division three for sports, which means not everything revolves around athletic events. Also, we do not have any sororities or fraternities which means that no one is secluded in small groups. Everyone spends time with everyone else, from the athletes to the myriad amount of art students. Also, Arcadia has its very own castle which is beautiful and also home to students.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Close to the City – Arcadia not only has many bus stops close by, but also a train station that can take you directly to the heart of Philadelphia in a short amount of time. There are many things to do in Philadelphia as well as many schools you can visit to see friends.

Majors: I Enjoy It a Lot – The Psychology department is very good and a close community. Because of the small size of the university people are able to get more attention and get closer with each other.

Athletics: Sports Are Subpar – Sports aren't really viewed highly. All sports teams are either clubs or D3

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Aesthetics Are Beautiful – The university has a castle and other very decent features. It's established in a good clean area and the campus is very pleasing to look at.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Regarding Parking – Parking is pretty strict, if you ever forget your permit, you will most likely get a ticket.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They Don't Care, Even When They Do – Getting caught at AU is actually pretty difficult; just don't be stupid. The RA's, for the most part, work on the idea that if they can't see it, they don't care. No one wants to do paperwork. Even if you do get in trouble for alcohol/drugs, you basically just have to go to a two hour class on drinking and drug use safety. They basically teach you how to party and be smart about it. If you get caught more than once, punishments get more severe, but basically just don't be stupid and you're fine.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – There's a variety of housing styles available for you at AU. While you may have to suffer through dorms your freshman year, which isn't always that bed, once you reach sophomore status, the apartments and suite style living become options for those of you who aren't really "dorm people".

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Eating Off Campus – You have Michael's right across the street, which of course is a favorite among Arcadia kids. If you head down Easton Road towards Willow Grove, you'll find a plethora of options. There's small restaurants and pubs in Downtown Glenside, like the Glenside Pub, which are pretty good. If you keep going, there's also the Willow Grove Mall, which offers a variety of dining options.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Cold and Snow, but Not a Far Walk. The campus itself is very small, so on bad days, your walk to class will not be a bad hike. It is snowy in the winters and classes will not be cancelled. It gets rainy quite often, so bring an umbrella! Once the weather lightens up, you will see many people laying on the grass.

1 College Freshman

Athletics: School Spirit? a Joke. If you're looking to attend a school with a lot of spirit, games, or even the after-party of the games, forget it. School spirit is on its lowest level, and even games that are played on Arcadia's fields are dead. Plenty of intramurals to play but no sports team to actually watch for a good game.

2 College Freshman

Facilities: Campus Is Kind of Boring – Beautiful and historical campus, lovely to look at, but other than that... BORING! Weekends are not lively despite the events put up. About once or twice a semester will there ever been a fun activity where many people show up. A lot of commuters stay home or a lot of those who stay on campus go home on the weekends.

Parking: Not Enough Spaces – Parking is good when you can find a space. There are a lot of people who drive to campus and it's sometimes hard to find a parking space that's near your destination.

Scholarships: In the early years, financial aid was super easy! They have a bunch of merit-scholarships that don't require separate applications and are mostly renewing for each year. In the later years I was trying to pay more and more myself (and have less loans taken out at the end) and having created relationships with a couple of people in the office helped me find a payment plan where I paid in small installments all year and the remainder was covered by loans

4 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: Commuter Population = Off-Campus Parties – So Arcadia does have a high commuter population which means that they're just not around on the weekends. As an underclassman, if you're living in the on-campus dorms, it can be dead on the weekends. But most people move to the off-campus dorm-apartments or just off campus after freshman year. Most of the parties do happen off campus, but I never had a problem finding something to do, someone to hang out with...

3 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: 70/30 Split – Arcadia is historically an all-female school and while it's been open to both sexes for decades now it is still heavily female. About 70% female- so probably better than a C+ if you're a guy... and of those 30% that are male probably a third to a half of them are are gay. (Given that, and a lesbian subculture as well, the campus is very LGBTQA friendly and accepting) So for a female, like I was, it can be hard to find anyone worth dating

3 College Freshman

Facilities: Amazing study abroad program. Our school has no frats/sororities which sets us apart in a different way. But many, if not the majority, of students study abroad and their experiences are unforgettable.

3 College Freshman

Weather: It snows every once in a while (only had 2 or 3 snowfalls this year). It's warm during the beginning of the school year but as the season changes, so does the weather. When it is nice, you can find many people playing and relaxing at Beaver Beach aka Harbor Green.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are activities provided by the school. There are parties some nights, nothing other nights. Some students decide to go into the city, while others just stay in their dorms or enjoy the commons.

3 College Student

Transportation: With a Bus right next door to Arcadia, it's very easy to travel around town. With a train a mile away, Philly is very accessible as well

Grey Towers Castle
Grey Towers Castle
Grey Towers Castle Grey Towers Castle Arcadia's Grey Towers Castle is possibly the University's most unique and special building. The castle was built in the late 19th century and has been declared a historic landmark. Freshmen can dorm in the castle, and many events and activities take place there, as well.

Arcadia has a great close-knit community of students that makes everyone feel very welcome. It is a great University for personalized attention, with professors who are all very helpful and knowledgeable in their areas and work well with students. In addition to their dedication, most professors have the highest level of recognized achievement in their fields, so they know what they are talking about. Outside of classroom activities and involvement, there are also many study abroad opportunities, where students can meet people from all over the world.

The best way to have an amazing experience is to get involved right away. While some feel that Arcadia does not offer much in the way of partying or crazy nightlife, it has other perks, including its small community of people passionate about what they are doing. Get involved, talk to people, and you'll have a great college experience.
