College Sophomore

Athletics: We have 22 varsity sports plus some JV and Interamurals. We have a lot of scholarships for students as well as many students are athletes.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Aquinas has a pretty strict policy about drinking, drugs, visitation, and academics. The honor code is a really big deal here, cheating is probably the worst thing you can do. Drinking on campus is unacceptable, and everyone keeps a sharp eye out for it.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Our crime rate at Aquinas is really low, and we have lots of campus safety officers patrolling. You can always call and ask for an escort to and from all building on campus, and buildings within a few miles of campus. It's a small, lovely campus that watches out for each other.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Mostly everyone on campus is super nice and willing to help you with anything you need help with. There are many different types of people here: artists, religious, just a huge variety.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: The drugs are only where you decide to go here and who your friends are. Alcohol is more common than drugs, honestly.

Weather: It has not snow much this year. i've been loving it. my dorm is close to my classes so it doesn't affect me to much

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: In the beginning of the year it felt unsafe because there were a few safety notices of crime. but it has calmed down

Scholarships: applying to aquinas is free. aquinas gives lots of scholarships. i only took out $7,500 in loans this year

Facilities: Aquinas College is small school however it ranks up with bigger schools in extracurricular activities. The cross country has been the only team in the NAIA to be ranked in the top 15 for the past +10years as well as other teams making it to national competitions. We have tremendous faculty, having a top jazz musician as a professor is pretty awesome.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: There are different ethnic groups at Aquinas college but not in huge numbers. The majority is Caucasian but among each group of friends there is that one minority. Its nice knowing that people don't group into their own ethnic group. Most people on campus are very, very nice and are happy to be friends.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: There is a lot of great student life facilities at Aquinas. The moose(cafe house), the Sturrus Center(Athletics), the Art and Music center, soccerfield, and library along with dorms with volleyball/basketball courts. However this may be it, the thing that gets to most Aquinas students is that the campus is really small and limited. Some campus activities don't promote as much as they should.

Local Atmosphere: Aquinas is basically perfectly placed in the city of Grand Rapids. It is right near downtown GR with the Van Andel Arena, the GRAM, etc. East-town is also close by with fun shops and restaurants. Also even though AQ is situated near downtown it really doesn't give off that city vibe. When you're on campus it really doesn't seem as if you are in the middle of a big city. You are surrounded by trees, and old styled buildings. Overall its just a great atmosphere to live in.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I am an art education major. The art department is very personal and so far I have learned a lot from all of my professors. Aquinas is a liberal arts college, so there are many gen. eds that I must take but most of them have different class options so I can pick the one that I am most interested in. The Art building has its own gallery that with shows of faculty and students. There are many places outside Aquinas for art students to go explore such as The Frederick Meijer Gardens, the GRAM, and ArtPrize in the fall.

College Freshman

Greek Life: There is not a greek life at Aquinas College. There is though an opportunity to create a Living Learning Community (LLC) which is a themed living opportunity you can apply for once you reach sophomore status. You live in a on campus house or apartment with a group of friends who all have one common interest.

Campus Housing: I have loved living in the dorms. At St Joes it is so small that everyone knows you and it really feels like a home. Word of caution though. Do not date within your building. It gets really awkward and claustrophobic.

Off-Campus Dining: It is fantastic if you have a car to get there. If you are stuck with foot travel you will be eating at yesterdog a lot!

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: If you look, you can find it fairly easily. With east town about a five min walk people can find just about anything. As for alcohol it is not to bad. People party on the weekends but mostly in houses off campas.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The professors are good and the course list is broad. If your going into nursing, business, or accounting this is the place for you. their polisci program is also very good. Bio majors wil enjoy the ecology of our campus (which is used in lab work) while environment minded people will love our sustainable business program, of which we are a pioneer school. The profs tend to be very personal with students since class sizes usually are only as big as 20 people. However, there is a heavy demand for gen-eds here.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There isn't much of one on campus, nothing hard anyways. The school tends to crack down harder on drugs than alcohol but, as with anything, you can find it if you look. Marijuana is the only real "scene" and even then it's limited. Alcohol is a different story. Many of the RA's and Campus safety turn a blind eye to underage drinking. If you have an older friend you can usually get something easy enough. However, parties tend to be limited to major events like holidays.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Depends on what you're looking for. The RA's and Campus Safety are pretty lax when it comes to alcohol on campus. If no one's being hurt, and you're not going to get them into trouble for ignoring it, then they usually don't care. They do tend to focus on weird little things. fines for falling asleep in lounges or entering through an unauthorized door. The strictest places by far are coed hours (time when you are allowed to have a person of the opposite sex in your room), mandatory quiet and silent hours, and parking tickets. They hand out parking tickets like nobody's business.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Eastown is a 5-10 minute walk off campus but doesn't boost very many top notch restaurants. As for Grand Rapids itself, if you have a way to travel around the city, you can find something that you'll love. As with anywhere prices vary, $10 meals at a nice sit down restaurant.

4 College Junior

Academics: I feel that the professors do a good job at Aquinas with a few exceptions. The overall workload is consistent with other Colleges/Universities. I have been able to establish relationships with my professors and have gained much knowledge.

4 College Junior

Academics: The education studies program at Aquinas is top notch. I feel that they go above and beyond with getting the students into the classroom setting to make sure that this is their calling as well as getting them valuable experience. The workload is challenging yet rewarding. The facilities and technologies used are top of the line. I feel that the Aquinas education studies program is on par with other Colleges and Universities.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of variety when it comes to off-campus dining. Some are fast food options, however a lot of restaurants are super expensive. Not many places offer student discounts.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: The Moose is a really great hangout spot and the coffee selection is delicious. it is a great place to go and get homework done or meet up with friends.
