2 College Junior

Drug Safety: There is prevalent underage drinking, marijuana and mushroom use, but most other drugs are unusual to come by in Boone.

3 College Junior

Academics: I came to Appalachian not sure of what I wanted to do. ASU has done a good job of building programs for new students that help them choose a major they will enjoy, and the clubs and organizations allow for unique experience unavailable in the classroom.

3 College Junior

Parking: Small Town With Lots of People – Boone does ok with parking, but there just simply aren't enough spots for geographic reasons. However, this is forcing us to develop more sustainable solutions.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Ok, but Not the Best – Food services has fine food, but it can get repetitive. Also, prices high enough to drive away most all students who don't have to eat on campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Pretty Safe – Appalachian is a pretty safe campus. There are occasional events, but overall I feel very safe.

3 College Junior

Diversity: Appalachian State has a good bit of diversity. Although app state is mostly white kids

1 College Junior

Scholarships: Financial aid is great once you receive your funds, but a hassle to get a hold of. Financial aid advisors are not willing to help and impossible to reach.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: A lot of "hippies," but also a lot of students that seem to come from wealthy families.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Campus Is Great. Campus facilities are great. New, luxurious cafeterias. Excellent library, beautiful campus.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Small-Town Feel – It's a medium-sized school with a close, family environment

1 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Housing off-campus is extremely over priced and far away from campus. There should be options for on-campus living for upperclassmen.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: GO GREEK, RUSH FIJI – The one and only choice on campus fraternity wise is FIJI, that's all anybody needs to know.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Housing Is Good and Bad – On campus housing is very convenient, cheap and very nice compared to many dorms across the country, They are almost all new, and/or renovated. Off campus housing is sometimes hard to find and can be very expensive, but there are deals out there and the types of housing you can find and very unlikely for college students, Cabins, awesome views, golf course estates, etc.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Very Safe Campus- Easy to Navigate and Well Lit – The campus has a very safe, homey feeling too it. People around are always very nice and helpful have never personally heard of anyone running into trouble on campus. Campus security and Boone PD are a pain in the butt so just watch out for them.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather is the winter and spring is quite wintery to say the least. The late spring, and summer is AMAZING, its worth staying up here over the summer. The fall is gorgeous as well, especially at football games.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Fan Support – The fan support for the ASU football is insane. Tailgating and fan attendance is outstanding. Love it.

2 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Bar Scene – The bar scene in Boone is depressing. Most bars/clubs aren't up to par with other college campus atmospheres.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Yay App! I've enjoyed my overall experience so far. The are is absolutely beautiful and there's an interesting mix of people. Chances are, you'll find someone you want to hang out with and some kind of activity that you enjoy. Academics could use some improvement, parking is a pain, on-campus food gets old fast. If it weren't for App not having exactly the major I want, I wouldn't ever second-guess my decision.

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: Good Luck Parking – Parking in Boone is a complete hassle. Spots on campus are only for students and faculty with permits, and if you just need a temporary spot, you're not going to find one. The bus system is fairly unreliable, always late, and there are rarely spots left if you're one of the last stops before campus. Stay away from Safe Ride--it's not safe, it's very slow, and the workers are often rude.

1 College Sophomore

Diversity: As far as racial diversity goes, it's mostly made up of white students. There's only a handful of other races here. Average variety of economic background, mostly liberal political beliefs, open and accepting of different religions, and there is a pretty strong community of LGBT students.

3 College Senior

Facilities: App is a very average school with little tradition.

4 College Senior

Campus Strictness: I have not had any problems with the university. But they do have a new off-campus conduct policy which is total crap.

3 College Senior

Academics: Easy Road to Graduation – The academics are improving, but aren't that great. App is easy to get into for a reason. Some majors are easier than others. I'm a history major, which I would consider one of the tougher ones on campus. The Com department is jokingly easy. There are some excellent professors, but some terrible ones as well.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Great House Parties, Clubs.... Eh – house parties are fine but there are not really many clubs/bars here. the on-campus club legends is good for live music but nothing is really good for partying as they are very small

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Not Much Variety – good dining halls, food is alright but not great but there is little to no variety. would be nice to get an all you can eat option at one dinning hall.
