Campus Dining: Dining Halls – The dining options on campus are extremely varied. There are places to make a quick stop between classes, or you can sit down and have a meal with friends who become family. The meal plan is easy to follow and parents love it. Of course, eating at the same places does become boring, but there is always a variety to choose from.

Academics: As elementary education majors, we have the opportunity to be in classes with other education majors. We are able to talk about our ideas, our classroom management skills, and our love of teaching. The workload is average, but the outcome is priceless. I have talked to many principals who say that resumes with an Appalachian State University education are put to the top of any pile.

Academics: Professors and Classes – Like any school you are going to find a variety of professors, yet most of my professors were extremely helpful. Most want to have relationships with their students and want to see their students learn. You will find an occasional dud who refuses to respond to emails, but overall professors are great.

Off-Campus Dining: Eating in Boone – If you like eating out a chain restaurants you're at loss. But, if you love discovering that hole in the wall eatery, Boone is a great place to go. Down town is super close to campus, and every restaurant I have been to has been great. One of the best breakfast places is Melanie's Cafe in the area. Also, when the weather is bad check out Boone Take Out. This company picks up food from near by restaurants and delivers it to your dorm!

Academics: Being an English Major at ASU – Appalachian State's English department is very dedicated to the students. I can't complain about the quality of the professors or their dedication to their work in the classroom. Outside of the classroom though, professors can be a bit difficult to reach.

Weather: Snows a Lot. If you don't like snow, don't go here. Classes get cancelled some times, but not a ridiculous amount. The days it doesn't snow, the weather is absolutely beautiful and everyone hangs out outside!

Computers: The Campus Offers Macs! The campus offers numerous types of computers for student use, depending on what lab you are in. The music lab offers computers with keyboards attached! They are also generally Mac computers, which run much more efficiently than the Windows. Computers are located on every floor of the library, so even during midterms you can find one to use.

Academics: I came to Appalachian for the education program, which I was thoroughly disappointed with. However, since changing my major, I have come to love the new program in which I am in. I love the campus, the weather (which is what some people hate about Boone), the kindness of my peers, the plentiful opportunities to get involved, and the overall atmosphere of Appalachian. It is a wonderful school, just don't go there for Elementary Education!

Scholarships: Fill Out FAFSA – You fill out the FAFSA. I have not had much experience with Financial Aid.

Parking: Parking is a nightmare. Students can only park in a few dedicated lots during the week. Once the weekend starts, almost all lots are open, but it is still hard to get a spot, and when its time for parents to come, its so crowded your family is lucky to even be on a street with their hazards on.

Academics: Received Help from Professors and Advisors – When I switched my major to nursing, I was lacking in certain courses, and my first advisor made a mistake in her counseling to me. However, I contacted professors who were very approachable and who waived some pre req requirements so that I could finish my courses in time to apply for the nursing school. My next advisor was very helpful in figuring out how best to work with my class load. Everyone was very helpful and concerned about my condition. I was more than a number.

Off-Campus Housing: Never Lived Off-Campus – I've never lived off-campus, but my friends do. The apartments are small, outdated, and way far from campus on crappy bus routes. The ones close to campus are the most expensive and the most outdated. The nicer apartments are so far from campus you have to drive your car and the prices are way out of a college student's budget.

Facilities: Beautiful Campus – App State has the most beautiful campus of all that i toured (i toured close to 15 campuses). its got lots of trees and grass and outdoor space and outdoor activities and everything it within walking distance :)

4 College Junior

Academics: Class Sizes – I love the super small class sizes at Appalachian, the class feels more like friends talking than a prof talking at you. Problem, its hard to register for classes because there are so few seats and some (not all) profs are stingy about letting extras in :( tis a bummer sometimes

Transportation: The transportation is excellent at Appalachian State. There is an campus wide transportation system available to all students. It is free and easy to access.

5 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The students at Appalachian State are diverse. Although, the population is made up of different students , the students are united in there common interest of school pride.

Academics: I am a transfer student, but so far I have already interaced with the professors. My professors are eager to help me purue my degree in Nursing

Overall Experience: App Is Great – App is really what you make of it. You can be a party-goer if you choose, but you can just as easily not. It gets really cold here, but that's prime time for studying. Buy some good snow shoes, a warm jacket, and you'll love it.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Pretty Fair Judgement – Sure, you'll get in trouble for alcohol and drugs, but depending on who catches you, you might get an easy time depending on the circumstances. Don't speed, though! Speeding tickets are pretty common on campus, and only park on campus if you have a pass.

5 College Junior

Campus Dining: Meal Plan Is Great – I like the meal plan a lot. There are no set limits on meals or snacks per day or week, and there are two markets on campus that are like mini grocery stores, which is great if you like to cook your own food. There are two main dining halls other than that, and a food court in the student union. The school is definitely vegetarian friendly, too.

Parking: PARKIN... Yeaa About That – The ASU Police Usually do crack down on unwanted cars parking on campus during NON-parking Hours. Because of this, everyone knows the rules: NO parking without a permit before 5:00pm but the car is allowed to be parked anywhere at anytime on the weekends. I suggest that you DONT park your car on campus during campus hours unless you have a parking pass!

Diversity: There are lots of people from different cultural backgrounds, and races, and ethnicities here at APP. Although most of the population there is Caucasian, there are many other races and ethnicities that really make this college a diverse one. The people here dont judge by skin color. We are one big happy family!

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments Are Average Priced – Boone has many off-campus housing options. We have a housing fair every quarter that specifically offers students different apartments around campus. They are all remotely close to campus and if not there is always the Appalcart, our campus bus. I would highly reccomend our off-campus housing

Weather: Beautiful in the Beginning and End – When you first get there and when you are leaving are the prettiest times. The winter snow storms can be a pain.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did receive as much financial aid as I think I should have gotten but the amount was adequate. The staff on campus are somewhat hard to deal with and they are not very helpful. It would probably be in best interest to ask a student worker in the financial aid building for advice rather than the actual worker because they are a lot more helpful and cooperative.
