Weather: Hope You Like It Cold – It can start getting Christmastime cold by mid-September, and it's been known to snow by October up in Boone. This can be a positive thing, or a not so positive thing depending on how you feel about the cold. Classes are occasionally cancelled, but I wouldn't count on class being cancelled as an excuse to skip out on homework. Even though App has a notoriously hilly terrain, the school keeps the walkways well salted, and you never feel as though you'll slip and accidentally decapitate yourself.

Computers: Computers at school are great. There is always a computer open for you to use.

Health & Safety: Campus is pretty safe. There are always securities around

Diversity: Not Much – There are some African-American students here, but not many. I have seen maybe thirty. I have seen perhaps 3-4 Middle Eastern students, a handful Asian students and NO Hispanic students. Most are upper middle class white frat kids who don't know what it's like to take care of themselves for once.

Campus Dining: Good Food High Price – I think they have a nice variety of foods and even have veggie options which is good for a vegetarian like myself but the food is very expensive the school definitely takes advantage of supply and demand and charges a lot for a little...okay for freshman who's parents are paying for all their stuff but not so good for adults who are working and going to school trying to survive.

Majors: Nursing Program – The Nursing Program is fairly new at AppState. It, however, is very good. Because they want to provide an excellent quality education, and make sure you get what you need, the curriculum requirements are pretty specific and competitive for this program.

Academics: Freshman Registration Process and Move-In – This is the most "user friendly" college campus I've ever been exposed to! You can work on your own class schedule, totally online, as early as May before your August entry! Then, during orientation, your adviser helps you perfect it! You're done, at that point, to enjoy the rest of your summer. The Friends of the College and Parent Organization even provide the muscle for Freshmen Move-In Day!

Local Atmosphere: Appstate Students Have Friendly Local Neighbors – Appalachian State University is located in Boone, N.C., a beautiful mountain community. It is some what of a college town but the local neighbors are very friendly and supportive. Hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway to really see the beauty of the area!

Campus Strictness: NO NO's – Drinking is the only thing that goes on in dorms for the most part but most take that off campus because getting caught drinking in a dorm is not worth the risk.

Campus Dining: App Food – I have not had a meal plan on campus since Freshman year but the plans tend to be very generous if you use it right. App has 3 different main places, with the main cafeteria offering many different options. There is also a Mcalister's on campus.

Academics: I just recently declared my major so I am new to the program therefore can not personally comment.

Local Atmosphere: Appalchian is located in Boone, NC. A small town nestled away in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Boone is a great college town. App spirit is widespread. Outdoor activities are limitless.

Academics: Appalachian is known for it's Education and Business programs. A great thing about Appalachian is that the large majority of courses have professor's for instructors, where at larger schools professors can tend to be graduate students.

Greek Life: Not for Me – Greek life seems alright if thats your thing, but for me its not. Greeks students live just like any other student would, and are not viewed any differently.

5 College Junior

Diversity: The diversity on campus is outstanding. I have friends from all over the world! I have learned alot about different cultures just by begin in Boone.

Academics: I love being a nutrition major at Appalachian State. I will also be getting a minor in exercise science with the intent on one day becoming a sports nutritionist! The faculty involved in the nutrition and exercise science programs are very knowledgeable in their areas. The work load is decent, but not too much. Most of my classes are in the same buildings so its very convenient.

Athletics: Sports and Spirt: at App It's the Real Deal – Varsity Sports at Appalachian State are pretty big here on campus. We have some of the top notch equipment and facilities to support our soon to be top notch players! School Spirit is beyond ridiculous because we are so pumped and excited for our fellow colleagues that we cant help but to lose our voice at every game!

Academics: Professors and Pens – At Appalachian State there are plenty of professors that actually care about more than just themselves. Just get ready to take notes because almost everything they say is valuable in some way shape or form! These professors dont waste their breath for nothing! They are extremely helpful and willing to do anything to the extent that you cooperate and stay attentive intheir perspective classes.

Local Atmosphere: App and Events – There are plenty of clubs and organizations to get involved in at Appalachian.Sports games are a pretty big deal at App as well. About 30-45 minutes away is the town of Blowing Rock where there is a Tanger Outlet and plenty of shops to look around.

Drug Safety: DRUGS...Psshhhttt We're Not About That Life! Rarely ever have I seen or heard a drug problem being reported at Appalachian State. This is not to say that it isnt happening but I think our App Community is smart enough not to get caught on campus!

Nightlife: PARRRRTTYYY.... Whoo! Nightlife for all college students usually starts on thursday nights at Char Restaurant and Grille. The restaurant actually turns its facility into a night club and students 18& up can dance the night away.... or at least until 2 am! House Parties are the best and more likely cheaper than Char if you have to pay anything to get in. The transportation aspect of Appalachian, and what I absolutely love about app is that they have this service called SAFE Ride. SAFE Ride is where college students apply to be a "designated driver" for the night....and all the other nights! They offer these services after the normal bus hours so they start at about 6pm and end at 2am. This service is very helpful to me and my fellow colleagues because I know I can catch a SAFE Ride back to my dorm and not have to worry about walking by myself or being unsafe in someone elses car.

Academics: App and the Walker College of Business – I'm looking forward to declaring my major at Appalachian as a Computer Information Systems major. I've been very satisfied with my education thus far. On the website and even in person there are people and resources on the website that help out alot. The unique aspects of my program is that I can travel and have the option of having a concentration in a specific language so that I will be able to comprehend what is being said and can interpret for others. Alot of the instructors know plenty of people that will definately get you going in the right direction as far as internships and jobs and such!

Campus Housing: The dorms are all really great. You can typically live in the dorm you want and you make a lot of friends. Many of the dorms have certain groups living in them and the dorms are very diverse. It's really great and they are pretty decent cost wise.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There is great security on campus. I have never felt unsafe. The dorm I lived in closed at a certain time to keep those who don't live there out. There is a police call station every few feet and they check every month that students know what the siren for a school lock down sounds like so that no one gets scared or confused.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: There are a lot of fantastic teachers at Appalachian State. It may take a couple tries to find the teachers that you best learn from, but they are there. There is a great teacher a the university for every type of learning style.
