Majors: As a future RD we spend one year acting as an RD. It is really very cool that we get to practice before we actually have to be RD's.

Majors: I love App States Nutrition program. The professors are really supportive and the environment is fun to live in. However, if you are not a fan of rural environments stay away. If I could do it again I would find a way to get in state tuition. It is possible just takes effort. I am not concerned about finding a job. Nutrition is a growing field!

Parking: Freshman have a very hard time getting parking spaces with the University, and when you do you end up way off campus. In order to get to your car as a freshman with parking through the university you have to take the bus system. However, if you buy parking from a private seller around campus you can get a good parking spots for a decent price.

Local Atmosphere: I love how calm and inviting Boone is. The town really loves their students and have many ways to show their appreciation. The majority of the people living in Boone may be students but it maintains their small town feel, especially through King Street.

College Senior

Scholarships: I have a unique situation in which i do not receive financial aide anymore, the office is efficient, the workers are helpful, and the responses are quick. I cannot comment on the aide itself.

4 College Senior

Facilities: Cutting edge technologies in every department i have had the fortune of visiting or having class in. App State has one of the more user friendly online systems i have had to use through my many years of school

4 College Senior

Diversity: There are people from all over the world and places i have never even herd of. Sports, clubs, organizations are blossoming with diversity.

1 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Most dorms on the West Side (Coltrane, Gardner, Justice, Eggers, Bowie)are dumps. The good ones are App Heights, Mountaineer (up a large hill, pretty far from everything) and the best(location wise) is Newland. Most of the East side has been remodeled recently so they are all pretty good.

4 College Freshman

Academics: My classes have all given me a great coverage of the topic and I have been fairly successful

College Freshman

Academics: I havn't goteen into my major yet so I can't really say but the teaching program at App had a great reputation

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Lots of kids use around campus but there's not a lot of pressure

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Appalachian tries very hard to ensure that diversity is a staple at our university and to promote growth within the diverse community. Appalachian has held several campus wide events focused on diversity and diverse awareness. The down side to this aspect at App State is that while there is a big call to awareness the actual population of diverse pupils at Appalachian, while growing, is still a very small portion of the population represented at the university.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Football is huge part of the campus life at AppState, and the surrounding town of Boone. However, there could definitely be more support for our other sports such as basketball and baseball.

5 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather in Boone always keeps you on your toes. It can be warm and beautiful one week, and snowing the next. As a matter of fact, when I woke up this morning it was 55 and raining. Now there is 6 inches of snow on the ground.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Football games are incredible-huge crowds and a great team. The athletic department itself brings this grade down significantly. It is my personal opinion that the AD is too hasty in his decisions and the athletic teams suffer for it. More experienced counsel would not be amiss in the athletic department.

4 College Junior

Majors: I am extremely happy with the quality of education I have received thus far at Appalachian State. I feel like I am being trained extremely well to be a professional in my field. For the first time in my life as a student, I feel like I am actually receiving the type of education that will benefit me after I graduate. I am 100% confident I made the correct choice for my own personal education. After I graduate with my Masters, I plan on pursuing a job in Human Resource Management. I am confident I can find a job, but it will be difficult considering most HR jobs require several years of HR experience.

College Junior

Majors: We will be required to doan internship during the summer in between our first and second year. I am greatly looking forward to completing the internship and gaining direct experience working in my field. I am a little concerned about finding an internship considering I have to consider my financial situation while still finding something that will be a valuable learning experience. While I have slight concerns, I also have no doubt that I will find one with due effort.

Campus Dining: There are two dining halls. The main hall has a large selection to choose from: salad bar, mexican, sushi, camp out style, etc. The other dining hall serves something different every night and is a mini buffet. Prices are more than students think is fair but the meal plan will cover it as long as you don't go overboard.

Health & Safety: There are some minor crimes but that is not to be expected at a college. The campus poice send out an email alert if there has been a crime of any sort. The campus also has an alert system for emergencies which is tested once a month so you know it works. It can be heard anywhere on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: ASU offers a wide variety of classes. The professors are knowledgable and usually available outside of class. Registration can be a pain but gets easier as you progress.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are few clubs in the area around this school. Most are for students who are 21 or older. The most popular club to go to, particularly on Thursday nights, is Char, on Howard Street. However, there are more parties outside of clubs, to which underage students wouldn't have a problem going. Most happen on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs are at every school. Boone makes access to it much easier but there is almost no peer pressure.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Although there are plenty of unique restaurants it is mostly chain restaurants.

5 College Junior

Academics: I give the Recreation Management program a A++++! The program is absolutely wonderful. THe professors really know what they are talking about and the recourses surrounding the program are endless. All of the professors have had tons of experience in the field and have different contacts and resources for the students to use to better themselves. Everyone in that program is very welcoming and all my professors know my name and genuinely care about how I am doing and want to help.

5 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Boone is a very unique town with a lot of things to do. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close and convent for hikes and being in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Grandfather Mountain is also very close and accessible. Boone downtown is the definition of a college ton with different types of restaurants and shops. I love living in Boone the people and the atmosphere are so wonderful!
