2 College Freshman

Parking: There are few parking spots on campus for students and those that are available are generally pretty expensive and kind of away from central campus.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: Some of the facilities are kind of rundown in classrooms, but overall the campus is well maintained.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Campus dining is average. Dining isn't bad and the central dining hall is nice and new in its looks and feel. It just depends on what you get. There are plenty of options, but it does feel mundane after a while.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Some of the dorms have ridiculously small rooms.....Coltrane and Gardner probably have the smallest rooms in NC...but the residents are great...I think they get to know each other better because they spend less time in their rooms and more time mingling in the lobbies and study areas. Expect to move off campus by the time you are a junior though...there are not enough dorms for the amount of students enrolled...there is a sort of lottery system used after your freshman year...unless you are pretty lucky or involved in a Resident Learning Center, it is rare to spend your whole four years on campus.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: The AppalCart Bus System is great...free..even to visitors. Serves campus and makes runs off campus to shopping, dining, living areas.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Just don't try to park anywhere on campus the day of a home football game!..They won't even let you "drive through" to drop off someone, or their stuff, at the dorms closest to the stadium.
But honestly, if you live on campus, you do not need a car.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The campus police are always around to help out students and stay on call at Appalachian State University. They are not lenient about illegal activities involving students on campus and even have a holding cell where intoxicated individuals can sober-up while being held open for anyone.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms are a great place for freshman year at Appalachian State University, but after one year they are far too small and close for comfort to stay in. The options for living on campus are very limited for upperclassmen in terms of space, but upperclassmen have first pick of dormitories including apartment style suites.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Specifically in my courses for Psychology the required classes seem to be very relevant to my intended major however my main Psych teacher is a graduate student who has never taught before and therefore grades extremely harshly. The plus side is that she uses very up-to-date technology that keeps me interested in class.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Although Appalachian State University offers very great programs in a very relaxed environment, sometimes grading is very harsh and there are limited options for making up missed work.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining options near Appalachian State University are the same as most places. There is fast food restaurants such as Burger King, McDonald, and Wendy. There is also Chilis, Applebees, and Cracker Barrel

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: The price for housing is high. The good thing about it is that you can walk everywhere since most of the store are close by.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: There is many outdoor activities such as hiking and tubing. Downtown has a awesome pizza place and many store with unique things!!

2 College Senior

Scholarships: I haven't needed, but my friends complain on how slow it is and have trouble communicating with the office in charge of it.

1 College Senior

Parking: The reason why it is so terrible is that it is costly to get a parking spot, and there is not enough handicapped spots.

4 College Senior

Transportation: We have bus system that rivals other universities and not only works on campus, but throughout the town of Boone. It sometimes does not run on time though which can be frustrating when it is your primary mode of transportation.

3 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: All of the facilities are state-of-the-art and are mostly recent additions to the school.

2 Recent Alumnus

Nightlife: There are very few nightclubs in Boone, however, if you go with the right people, you can make a good time of it.

3 College Freshman

Majors: Has some variety, but it is a major elementary education school.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are several styles and different types of people are there. Everything from Greek life to new reusable energy/ green people.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: West side dorms are lacking in the amenities that the east side dorms have.

5 College Senior

Computers: There are tons of computer labs on campus and the library also has a lot of computers available for students to use. Students can even check out laptops while in the library.

5 College Senior

Health & Safety: I have never once felt unsafe at Appalachian. Boone is a small and cozy town where nothing ever really seems to happen. The University Police are always available. Dorms can only be entered if you have a card swipe and live in that building, so the security overall is really good.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Since Boone is such a small town, the distance from campus to really anywhere in Boone isn't too terribly bad, but the cost is kind of pricey. They have a decent selection, but you really need to do your research on the appartments because if not, they can jip you of money.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I really love my major and the classes I've had to take for it so far! My professors are really passionate about what they are teaching us and I've learned a good bit considering I'm still a Freshman.
