4 College Freshman

Computers: There are many computer labs on campus and printing is relatively cheap. The network is not very stable.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I enjoy the atmosphere and scenery, but it's not exactly my style.

2 College Freshman

Parking: The cost is very high and the parking lot is very far away from the campus.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: We have a campus shuttle that also takes us around the town. It is occasionally on time.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: We do not have Greek housing, but all of the parties are hosted by Greek students.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I haven't been here for very long so I haven't had a chance to really get into my major but so far it's been a good experience. The workload isn't terrible right now but I predict that it will get harder. I haven't really looked into internship or job opportunities but I've heard from several of my friends that there are a lot of internships available.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I've really enjoyed all my professors so far. They have been great instructors and really helpful when I needed help. The registration process could use some help. A lot of people have trouble getting into the classes they need. The workload I've had hasn't been unbearable but it has been somewhat difficult. There are a lot of study abroad opportunities and I think that's really cool. One day I hope to be able to do that.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love being at Appalachian. It's a really fun school but a quality school at the same time. It's such a diverse place and I feel like anyone could fit in here. I love that it isn't judgmental and there is something for everyone.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are several options for off-campus housing, however, it isn't always the cheapest. Parking is usually an issue up here, especially when it comes to parking on campus. If public transportation wasn't available, it would be hard to drive to class and find a close parking spot.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Most facilities on campus are really nice. The athletic centers and libraries are especially nice. There are always student activities going on and places to hang out. I think that the campus is really beautiful and the mountains are a huge plus to the scenery.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: I think that Appalachian is extremely accepting of everyone's views. There is a big LGBT community here and while it isn't that racially diverse, we do have foreign exchange students and we are accepting of all races and cultures that are here. There are various political and religious beliefs on campus and there are clubs for almost every religion and every political party.

Computers: There are laptops available to be checked out in the library and computer labs throughout campus. The wifi is very unreliable. Sometimes it works fine but other times it can't even connect. It's really helpful to have your own computer because you can have it at your convenience. Having to walk across campus to use a school computer late at night isn't always the greatest option but it is there as a possibility.

Campus Strictness: I think my school does a good job with how strict they are. They are just strict enough to keep us safe but not so strict that we can't have any fun. My school did recently get a little more strict on things like quiet hours to make sure people can get to sleep at a decent time and have quiet time to study in the evenings.

Campus Housing: My dorm is very nice compared to most dorms. Some of them are really small but others are really nice. It just depends on what side of campus you end up being placed. They are finally starting to renovate some of the older dorms and make them nicer.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: My school does a good job of enforcing safe drinking instead of just preaching at us not to do it because they are aware it will happen regardless. Most of the time when parties get busted, the cops don't write tickets but just stand by until everyone leaves. I'm not very aware of the drug scene here. I don't feel like there is peer pressure to drink or do drugs on this campus.

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: Our public bus transportation, AppalCart, is fairly unreliable. Oftentimes it's late for pick up or will skip stops. It only runs every half hour so if you miss it, you will probably be really late for wherever you're going. We also have Safe Ride which gives students rides on campus between 6pm and 2am so that we don't have to walk alone at night. It's a great idea but is also not always reliable. Sometimes it comes right away but can also take up to 30 minutes for it to arrive.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Our exercise facilities are incredibly nice. We have a lot of new, nice equipment in the Student Recreation Center along with a basketball court, volleyball court, indoor track, and a swimming pool. Our football team used to be really good but this year has not been very successful. Fan support for the team has decreased quite a bit.

Guys & Girls: Most students are very self-expressive and I think most people are accepting of that. It's kind of a hippie town but at the same time, Greek life is very popular here so there are some preppy frat guys and sorority girls. Since App is located in the south, most people are friendly and outgoing. People are generally pretty nice and outgoing.

Local Atmosphere: My school is located in the Appalachian Mountains. It's a really beautiful place to live but there aren't many attractions or places to shop. I feel like it's fairly safe and it's a very culturally diverse and accepting place. Boone's population is primarily college students and most people are very accepting of that. We have great exercise and recreation facilities around campus.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I submitted all my information online and most of it went through however I had some trouble with the loans and making sure everything was set in place the way it was supposed to be.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Campus life is great. Aesthetically the school is wonderful. Many of the buildings are new and the university conducts renovations regularly. There are many intramural sports and clubs and organizations, many of which meet in the student union.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Most programs for my major are for upperclassmen, which is unfortunate. However, the department itself is tightly knit and very accepting and warm towards one another. It's very personable.

5 College Freshman

Academics: There is a very wide range of majors offered here. Most of the professors love what they do and they love to help students and work with them in any way they can. Registration is easy and painless.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: As I've stated before, some of the officials who are supposed to regulate underage drinking and drug use have been caught in the act themselves. The policies and rules set in place to prevent drug use and underage drinking are very rarely enforced.

Guys & Girls: The guys here are pretty outgoing and friendly, some of the girls however are a little stuck up but for the most part everyone is nice.
