Academic Experience: Registered Nursing Program – I feel that the school is overcrowded. There is such an overload in registering, but too many students drop or don't show up after weeks in attendance, which is sad for the ones that really need the class. The school is trying and applying good programs to help generate admissions/registrations. I feel that the workload and curriculum is a little challenging and requires full attention and extra curricular activities, tutoring and study programs for you and other students to work together. For someone like myself, in my 40's going back to school, it is a busy job trying and finding your way around the school for what is available to you or what is expected of you to do.I find myself always asking the younger students for guidance and they will tell you from their experience what you should do, it's just easier and faster that way for me.

Campus Resources: The campus is set up very well with Resources being the central focus of the campus. In the center of the campus is a 2 story library that contains computer access, reserve textbooks and many other books and periodicals appropriate for the education of the student. Staff is very well to assist all students. The Learning Center is directly from the library. The Learning Center offers tutoring on a drop-in or scheduled basis by the top students on campus. The school as recently been undergoing construction on several new buildings; such as a brand new 375 seat Dramatic Arts theater, a new Health Sciences building and construction has been completed on a brand new athletic stadium. Across from the Library and next to the Learning Center is the Student Services building containing the Transfer dept., counseling, Financial Aid, Registration, Cashier and Student Development offices. The campus offers many activities for students to become involved in especially in the various academic and special interest clubs.

Online Courses: Online Workload – The workload for Online courses is equal to in-class workload and in some cases it can actually exceed the amount of work in-class. The reason is that the material is basically self-study with some online lecture. Much is by reading. It is very possible to well in online courses as long as the work and reading are complete. The amount of effort placed in an online class should be equal to that of in-class. I never felt overwhelmed by work in my online classes and it was often easier to schedule the work around other subjects because I didn't have schedule conflicts.

Academic Experience: There are many tutors available in the Learning Center of Antelope Valley College. All have been selected from the best students who possess the skills and qualities of a good student. They are role models for other student. The provide tutoring aimed at helping the students think for themselves but provide backup knowledge and material to make successful students across all curriculum. The requirements to be a tutor are stringent and the student must maintain no less than a B in the subject(s) for which they tutor. The are often times available on a drop-in basis or by appointment. They can tutor in a group setting or on an individual basis. The success of the student tutee is the greatest joy the tutor receives. The Learning Specialists are all college graduates with Master's degrees and the Director of each area are professors in their fields. A student would find great success and assistance in any of their course work by using tutors in the Learning Center.

Student Body: Overall the school is good about diversity of the students and the school is really good about keeping activities going but if you dont qualify for financial aid it seems like sometimes it comes back to bite you in the but when you are not getting the advantage that other students who do are.

Campus Resources: Photography Computer Labs – This is what I use most often but unless its toward the end of the semester when everyone is trying to finish there lab hours then you will most likely find a computer to use. Computers run great but the lab tech will get mad at you if you are not working on something related to the art or photography department.

Academic Experience: The teachers are great and the students in the program are nice, but the materials fees are outrageous on top of your unit prices. No books are really required and the work load is fairly easy depending on your teacher. The lab that goes with each class is tedious and annoying though.

Campus Resources: Recources Here Are Okay. The buildings at the school look old although some rooms of the campus have new technology, such as computers, projectors, things of that matter. They just put in grass all over the campus which make it look alive and refreshing, and there's even a new theater being built.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Receiving financial aid depends on your status, but if you do receive it, it becomes scarce. So it is important to save some money for the hard times that are coming. Don't expect the money that you receive is for you to go on shopping sprees, it should only be used for the supplies, housing/rent, and tuition towards this school. The amount you receive here is actually pretty decent but make it last.

Career Services: Career Center – It needs more people helping out there, there isnt enought workers which makes 2 hour line waiting

Campus Resources: They have materials for students who cant afford books but not enough.

Student Body: We have a wide variety of different cultures and everyone seems to get alone well together. Many of the students are working and trying to classes around their work schedules.

Campus Resources: Facilities Are Improving – Currently in the process of building new buildings to make more room on the campus for classes. Library is not to bad but it is not always quit upstairs.

Academic Experience: Class Are Hard to Get Into – I'm a Health Science major and I'm having a hard time getting into the prerequisite class to be accepted into the program. I'm find that it is very frustrating not getting the priority to get into the classes that I need. I feel that registration should not be catered to the incoming high school students. I wish registration was based off of grades earned. I find that the workload is not to intense. I really enjoyed the classes when I have instructors show a passion for the subject their teaching and want their students to succeed.

Online Courses: Convienient but Difficult – It is more difficult to engage with an instructor over email than face to face. For classes that are less demanding, it is very convienient.

Overall Experience: Some Great Teachers. Terrible Administration. The teachers I've had have been amazing. They go out of their way to make sure students are able to succeed. The administration appears to be there to make sure the students fail. Administration offices are populated almost solely by people who don't know anything about their department or actively don't care about students. If it were not for the teachers, I would have left long ago.

Campus Resources: Slow, but Convienient – There are several computer labs on campus, making it easy to find a computer to work on. The network is old, but I've never lost anything on it. It's just a bit slow.

Academic Flexibility: In Order to Have Order – Many professors stick to their syllabi in order to have a more consistent school year. This consistency allows students to have a better understanding of what is to come throughout the year and not be surprised by any homework assignments. The material is laid out it front of them and they are responsible on how to handle their own lives to work around the school syllabus. This gives the student a sense of control over their lives with a firm scholarly structure.

Academic Experience: Professor Covell – This teacher knows his material. He is very fond of gothic literature and is firm believer that students don't always have to use scholarly words in describing their thoughts. He does however expect good, well-written essays. The dialogue used in the classroom is very relaxed and fun, but he also knows when to set things straight and focus on what needs to be discussed. He uses other media such as film and music to help him set a mood and context to what the class will be discussing for the day. He give great pointers on graded papers and often allows students to correct their mistakes. I would say he has a great sense of pazazz and originality and other students would agree as well.

Career Services: Job Placement – My school has a job placement center if a student is looking for a job while going to college they will help you find a job.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: Great Social Atmosphere – My school has a good community feel to it. The school often embraces the different cultural holidays and celebrations.

3 College Freshman

Tuition & Financial Aid: Apply Early – The education I am getting is well. I was able to get Financial aid which was able to help me pay for books and the classes I get. Because I applied early I was able to get my tuition payed for. But the college is going through budget cuts like the rest of the community colleges in California.

2 College Junior

Student Body: Many Money-Seeking, Unmotivated People. Let me start with there are many, many people there who truly care about improving themselves and getting an education. On the other hand, there are many there who "attend college" for no other apparent reason than financial aid. They don't care about their futures, apparently, because they don't try and just take their money and leave. They are disruptive wastes of classroom space and tax payers dollars. Besides them however! You can find many wonderful students here :)

3 College Junior

Online Courses: Can Be Easier. Online classes can be a lot easier if you stay on top of it. The hard part is keeping yourself on top of the reading, but do that and you'll be fine. It can be easier because the quizzes/tests are open book.
