Facilities: Modern Renovations! In the last three years they have rennovated the old gym from being a musty room to a massive, 1000 sq.ft epic gym and the library as well. Three stories of books and beautiful comfortable chairs and nooks with an in-house coffee shop. The campus activities change day-by-day and student hangouts exist, little to nowhere.

Campus Housing: Depends on Where You Are – At ASU there are 7 dorm halls; 1 for Freshman, 1 for Upperclassmen and 5 for a mix of all others. But each dorm has their own specific problems. Texan has water problems, Concho tends to break their own elevators constantly and have constant fire drills... But overall the experience is pretty good. Plaza Verde is an all-freshman dorm and it is organized incredibly accessible for the new incoming students.

Overall Experience: Those West Texas Nights – Moving from a 1+ million populated city to San Angelo (100,000) and a school that is only at 8,000 students, it was a big change. But the small campus, the friendly atmosphere, the fact that you can walk outside and it's like you're in a park or the desert, it's a different experience. There are parties, but there's also the chance to join all sorts of clubs, go see something at the Planetarium or to one of the quarterly glow-in-the-dark raves that happen in the gym. I wouldn't change my school for anything.

Guys & Girls: Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy – At ASU you've got a mix of cowboys, gamers and city slickers. If you aren't used to a real Texan twang or a drawl, it may take a while to understand them and get into the way of a slow-life living. The ladies? Well, they are pretty attractive as well.

Campus Dining: We have a Chick-fil-a in one of our main buildings beside the dining hall along with a Mongolian place and some snack items can be bought as well. There is also a Starbucks where you can get yogurt too. The dining hall is very diverse and you can get pretty much anything. The home cooked type meals are pretty good and there's also pizza everyday.

Campus Dining: Ok for Certain Hours – The selection is ok if you can grab something in time but it's slim pickings at night.

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of Options – There are so many options very close to the university that are reasonably priced and very nice. You can live in exclusive college communities or in a mixed complex that have military members, college students, and working class.

5 College Junior

Computers: Great Computer Labs – I have never walked on campus and have not been able to find a open computer. The university does a phenomenal job at providing the students with the latest technology and efficient computers to succeed.

Overall Experience: I Couldn't Have Picked a Better School – My overall educational experience at Angelo State has been amazing! I love my courses and professors. I have learned so much here, and feel prepared for the next step in life.

Local Atmosphere: College Town – San Angelo is very oriented to the college. The community watches the sporting events along with students. Businesses provide student discounts, free stuff, and special offers. Safety is all a matter of how you handle and conduct yourself but on campus there are always police around to help or to just give you a reassuring wave.

Parking: The parking attendent! I do not see a need for him at all!! My permit was sitting on the dashboard of my car and because he didn't want to get out of his golf cart he issued me a $30 ticket!! But honestly a vehicle on campus is not needed because the campus is small.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Not a Very Diverse Community – I am of Mexican and Indian ethnicity so while attending ASU I have noticed that there is a large Mexican community but very few Indians or even Asians for that matter. But as far as acceptance, ASU students as a whole are very accepting of different backgrounds.

Overall Experience: Very Friendly and Willing to Help – The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They work tirelessly to make sure every student is taken care of while still maintain a smile on their face. The campus is kept very clean and a major thing that attracted me to ASU was the openness and greenness of the campus. The professors are very knowledgeable as well and do their best to better explain the material if need be.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: The school is known for it's health and science majors. The rest of the majors offered seem normal

Athletics: I am a transfer student and just starting at ASU, and I can see that athletics are very big at ASU. The school provides state of the art facilities for non-athletes like the CHP and has places to play like the sand volley ball court, the tennis courts, and pavilion for basketball. A lot of upper classmen told me about how regular students will play games between classes. That sounds awesome!

Athletics: Angelo State is decent at most of the sports, but they never win championships and there's not much school spirit because of it.

Local Atmosphere: Friendly and Safe – San Angelo is a growing city with new places to eat and shop popping up everywhere around town. The great thing is that it is still a safe and friendly Texas city!

Academics: Professors Are Usually Our Cheerleaders – I am attending the undergraduate nursing program because it used to be the best. Over the las few years it has gone down hill. The last two semesters we have a new plan to help get us back on track. I would say the main reason it is begining to suceed is due to the professors wanting us to become great nurses. I have seen a professor actually tear up because of a students success story who started out on the wrong foot.

Athletics: Team Spirit Brings Students Together – We have a number of team sports. We also have flag football and other non-varcity sports. This is where you can meet alot of great people who enjoy the same type activities as you do!

Academics: Professors Use Interactive and Team Learning Techniques – I am in the nursing program as an undergraduate. I am fortunate that many of my professors are using new techniques to help facility different learning oppertunities. I have a professor who actually went through our curriculum as a student so that she would know what is key information to help us pass our state boards. She would use team dynamics to do place us into groups. In our groups we would do role playing and actual simulation of skills needed in the nursing field. I have a professor who brought in a special instructor to help us learn new tips on test taking and hands on skills. In todays industry the professors are making sure that we will be prepared for the job industry in academic knowledge as well as interpersonal skills.

Majors: Great Professors – The sociology professors at ASU were wonderful to work with. All of them I met were very knowledgable about their field and eager to help undergrads.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academics: Great Sociology Staff – There are some great sociology staff and great advanced classes offered. Class discussion, projects that give you the ability to choose what you're interested in, and semester-long projects to learn how to gather data. I loved it!

2 Recent Alumnus

Majors: You Have to Stay on Top of What You Need – ASU as a whole has problems being practive and contacting students about information needed or even adding information to students' accounts. It took ASU about 2 and a half years to add my major onto my account after I requested it multiple times. The last time I was assured it would be added, I received an email 6 months later letting me know my major had been added onto my account.

Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: No Idea Sorry – I was never into Greek life, but they never bothered me.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Nursing Program – ASU has a great nursing program and a great teaching staff. Asu is not too large or too small so that there is a better student to teacher ratio.

Angelo State University, and San Angelo by extension, has a small, friendly feel. In addition to a standard choice of majors, ASU offers many programs throughout the semester for entertainment, and there is a club for everyone if a student does some digging. No matter what taste a student has, there will be a club of like-minded people, and overall, people are generally accepting of each other, even if they disagree with them.

The city has all the comforts of a larger city with the feel of a small town. There is very little to be left wanting when at ASU or in San Angelo. However, students that come from larger metropolitan areas may find the small size on the boring side due to minimal variety. On the flip side, students coming from rural ares are likely to love having things to do without a long drive. A few students dislike the area, and a few students love it, but overall, many are happy with the choice to come to ASU.
