College Junior

Campus Resources: I have not yet had the opportunity to explore these resources.

3 College Junior

Academic Flexibility: Concurrent enrollment requirement is not supported by adequate access to required courses.

2 College Junior

Academic Experience: My major is registered nursing. I have to meet a grade point average in my science classes and some non-science classes like, english and nutrition. The first counselor I met with failed to tell me that I need a at a B average for the science section and the non-science classes at least a 2.5. So, now I'm having to take more classes to meet other campuses requirements to get into their nursing program.

4 College Junior

Online Courses: I like the online classes because they have good instructors and the class was structure enough for me to follow. And since I'm a heavy note taker I didn't have any difficulties in teaching myself.

2 College Junior

Academic Flexibility: It was somewhat easy to transfer credits for my classes because the I had to convert my class codes to the colleges that I chose for nursing school. For instance, Hartnell requires a ethnics class but American River doesn't have such class so I had to figure out a class that was equivelant to Hartnell's.

Online Courses: I've enjoyed taking online courses at American River College. I wish more were available.

4 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: Financial aid is easy to apply for, and all the instructions are on the website.

3 College Junior

Academic Experience: Taking courses online is convenient and enlightening.

College Junior

Student Body: I've been attending online, and therefore have not experienced the student body as a whole. However, the classmates I interact with are intelligible.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: There are many resources on campus ranging from the student center to the athletic center to the resource lab itself. Pretty much anything your instructors ask you to do can be done on campus.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: The student center has wifi of a good speed and open availability. The center also has multiple floor outlets for people to charge phones and plug in laptops. There are 2 public access computer labs and at least 2 more for specific class use. Printing is 10 cents per page so not bad.

3 College Junior

Career Services: The ladies who do the resume assistance are great. I have gone in on multiple occasions for help with my resume, with cover letters, and personal statements as well as help with career assessments.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: The clubs on campus are fairly active giving the student body a much needed jolt mid semester. With the new student center completed many people flock there to study, hang out, and use the resources available ie a computer lab, as well as more mundane tasks like eating. The grounds are very well kept so people also can be seen having picnics, playing Frisbee, or taking a nap on the beautiful lawns.

4 College Junior

Online Courses: The portal to the online courses can be a bit cumbersome but they are working on getting a better system in place. I personally really enjoy the online hybrid classes that are offered. 5 courses, 1 book, real tutors able to help all the time. The staff are great, the tutors knowledgeable, the course comprehensive so no one gets left wondering just what the heck we do with that fraction.

Academic Flexibility: This school has a flexible class schedule. For those, working day time jobs, a lot of evening classes are available and vice verse. There is a number of online classes available.

4 College Senior

Campus Resources: The learning resources for students are great. There is a big student center on campus with plenty of computers available and staff willing to help. The computer lab is open to students who are enrolled in certain classes. There they can use the software required for their classes.

2 College Junior

Academic Flexibility: American River, Being a community college, has its pluses and minuses. It is almost imposible to get into teh counseling department, and so far I have felt lost and wasting a ton of time due to the lack of information and help available to me. A good thing about this school is they do have a good selection of evening classes for those who have to work during the day like myself.

3 College Senior

Tuition & Financial Aid: IF you're an resident of CA the prices for classes are basically the same across the board; however, with these new financial aid stipulations that have been enforced by the government, you'd better be serious about your education. They only give you a total of 72 attempted units to complete your degree before you have to petition for financial aid.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: While there are many resources for students on campus, there isn't much marketing on these services, so for the first time student, they may feel a little bit lost; however, if you simply ask for help from the staff, they will guide you to the department that can help you.

4 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: There are plenty of duplicate courses so usually, if you're serious about your academics, finding classes that fit your desired schedule is pretty easy. If you can't find the courses at American River College there are three other campuses connected to the Los Rios district that will be able to assist you.

3 College Senior

Online Courses: I took one online course and it was pretty good. They also have hybrid classes and that kind of teaching works for me. I have taken three classes like that and I am going to take a fourth one during fall. You basically study on your own and receive lectures and the exam are on campus.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: The facilities are good, I wish we had a gym that students could attend free of charge. The restroom are kinda dirty, but that is for the huge amount of students that use them, and I can tell the personal do not clean them well either.

4 College Senior

Tuition & Financial Aid: It is not expensive, and they have a program called BOG that will waive you from the fees as long as you are a good students and demostrate financial aid.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: It is okay. I was in a class last semester where the campus network had no reach. But Wi Fi is available at the cafeteria and places close to that place.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: The resources are great at ARC. For the struggling students there are science resource centers, tutoring services and Beacon services, everything free of charge and available to any student that seeks help.
We have a new cafeteria with subway, starbucks and so forth. The library is not really well equipped, the do not have the books that are often required for classes and they close at 10:00pm. I wish they had a 24hrs library.
