Campus Resources: Study Abroad and Events – American River College offers at least one study abroad program every year, which I don't think most colleges do. They make it somewhat cheap and interesting. American River College also have many on campus events such as plays, culture, and club days.

Career Services: I'm Really Unsure – I really haven't used any of the career services offered. We do have a career councelor, who will go over your major and the career options with that major. I haven't been, but I've heard it can be helpful

Academic Flexibility: Very Full Classes – The only real problem is the very full classes. So many students are competeing for spots in classes that professors drop you on the first day if you're late and not prepared for class, or if you miss a day in the first few weeks. They're trying to make room for people on the wait list, which I understand. It's next to impossible to get all of the classes you need unless you get a fantastic registration date.

Academic Experience: A Good Place to Get Started – While ARC isn't a big four year university, it's a nice place to get ready to transfer. It's crowded and the classes are hard to get in to, but if you have a good relationship with a councilor you can get in to the classes you need. THe science program is fantastic here; almost all of my professors taught at UC Davis before coming here and are helpful and involved. There's not much campus culture, but to get started it's a nice place to go.

Career Services: My School – It has alot of things, and if you are interested in something they will definitely help you.

Student Body: The student Body at my school is great. They try very had to help us studentsget to where we want to be.

Tuition & Financial Aid: My Experience – My financial aid process toke some time and effort for me to get all the paperwork they need, but it was worth it because I qualified and need the money for my books and gas money.

3 College Freshman

Career Services: This school has great transfer opportunities to four year universities as long as you use the counseling center and the transfer center to keep you on track. If you use the school's resources, there is a great chance of transfering to a great instate university.

Online Courses: The workload is pretty even paced as long as you keep up on the homework and closely follow the class schedule. The workload can vecome overwhelming if you do not keep up with the pace of the class.

Campus Resources: The parking is just atrocious, especially during the beginning of each semester. The campus parking lots are filled to capacity early in the morning forcing students to park off campus. This often leads to students being late to or even missing class

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Experience Is Growth – I have learned many things while attending college, not only as a student but as a person in general. I would say I have matured a great deal as I have come to realize that college is about acquiring and mastering skills that are required and used in every day to day and workplace life.

4 College Freshman

Student Body: Our student body is diverse consisting of different ethnicities and backgrounds. I have not observed any overt discrimination on ARC's campus.

3 College Freshman

Online Courses: Never Again – I took one online course and some of my homework assignments and extra credit assignments were missing. Once they are submitted online there's no record our remaining "sent" e-mail. I am a straight A student and had earned an A in this class doing all of the homework and extra credit. When I complained of missing assignments I teach are found some of them yet could not explain why she did not see them before. She never found all of my work and on never take another online class if I can help it.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The tuition is definitely worth the amount of new things we learn from this school even though it is getting a bit pricey. The finaid program here is great but the only con is the long line I have to wait to talk to one of the person from the department.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: The library is very nice. Its a good place to study and get work done in a nice and quiet environment. Also, the study rooms are great for group activities and study sessions. Beacon tutoring is also available for many courses and can be helpful.

4 College Freshman

Academic Experience: Everything Is Good – I enjoy all of my classes, and there are many resources around campus that are there if help is needed, especially for science majors like myself. Professors are also very good, and they are willing to help with any problems.

4 College Freshman

Academic Flexibility: Good Community College – ARC does best what it is designed to do; getting student transfer and providing job training. It is a great place for undecided majors because of its vase curriculum and supportive advisers which will gradually provide a path for student to choose.

Online Courses: Online Classes at ARC – Online courses were really different from a traditional classroom experience for me. I really like the online instead because I didn't have to get up, get dressed, and drive to college. The workload was actually more online than in class. The registration process was quicker than I thought. I did as well learn how to manage my time in a timely order to get all the work done and turned in on time. The professor/student relationship was much easier because we would email each other and that's how we communicated. That goes for the peer to peer interaction as well.

Overall Experience: I love my college. They provide classes that are transferable, easy and fun at the same time. The college has resources for me for every question I have whether its tutoring, counseling, or financial aid. American River College is the best for me.

Campus Resources: Just Don't Take the GIS Class in the Chem Classroom – There are a couple computer labs, computers in the library, and a fair amount of classrooms with computers.
However, ARC is supposedly one of the best schools for GIS (Geographic Info Systems) in the region, yet they have not provided us with adequate facilities to take this class. The computers are situated under long tables with plexiglass screens over them to keep the chem students from spilling on the machines...And when you try and do your computer work, your spine and neck and arms are all aching by the end of class because the computers are so awkwardly and unsafely situated...

Campus Resources: Political Apathy – Thankfully this was before my time, but in 2008 the student council was comprised of bigoted people who attempted to claim the school's official stance was "Yes on 8". These people were apparently elected by their friends, because no one else cared enough to participate in student elections.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: So Long and Thanks for the Fish – I've valued many aspects of my education here at ARC, but I will be more than glad to transfer in another year or so. On to places where academics are more serious...

3 College Freshman

Academic Experience: English Profs Are Picky, the Rest Are Easy – And I say this as someone who can write a good essay in my sleep: The English professors, from my experience, expect a lot. Most of the rest seem to try and let you coast by.

4 College Freshman

Tuition & Financial Aid: Very Helpful, Not Always Easy to Understand – For the time being anyway, it's pretty easy to get a fee waiver and Pell grant if you need it. The process is a little complicated and stressful the first time around, but you get used to it. The financial aid office doesn't seem to like answering questions though.

3 College Freshman

Student Body: Hard to Take This School Seriously – I am grateful that I can, as an adult student, begin my education at a community college at long last. The price is right. If I could, I would be going to a four-year college where academics are taken more seriously. The school is a mix of freshman just out of high school, and working or unemployed older students of all ages. There is an overall sense of intellectual languishment. I have had several wonderful, sharp teachers who work with what they've got, but overall the environment is discouraging to me as someone who values intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness. The only politically-oriented student clubs are right wing. The most popular professor at my school, if we are to trust ratemyprofessor.com, is an arrogant, condescending, unqualified teacher who tries to brainwash the students: That, for me, just about says it all.
