Campus Resources: ARC is a well known college, and part of the Los Rios colleges. It is the best of the four Los Rios colleges. In California, ARC is considered one of the best community colleges available. ARC has many great majors and degrees offered. I got to experience two majors at ARC: science and business. the science department is very well equipped, and offers varying sciences including biotechnology. ARC also has an amazing culinary program, and includes its own student run restaraunt on campus available by reservations.

Student Body: Diversity, Diversity, Diversity – I have never seen such a large group of people. Most of the students seem to be returning students who are juggling school with their family, and with work. Most students are very focused on earning their degrees and while there are always a few spoiled apples, the overall environment and feel coming from the students is that of focus and seriousness with their education.

Campus Resources: Unique Classes With Excellent Instructors! My school offers a wide variety of very interesting classes and many of the instructors I have had were excellent and extremely knowledgeable about their topics and were able to really get me involved and interested in the material! There's a class here for everyone.

Academic Flexibility: Counselors Help! Before starting at my college, I had to meet with a counselor to discuss my goals, major, enrollment, etc. I was given one at random, a time to meet and instructions on what to bring, which was very nice. I met her and told her what my goals were, and after a little more discussion, she told me every single course I could take that would fill my general ed. requirements and would transfer to a four year university! I was thrilled that I could take all these classes. She even helped me deal with complications in some of the prerequisites for a couple classes I will have to take. I would be so lost without the help of that counselor! The only problems I've had are availability of classes since I had low priority for selection as a new college student, and money issues, which is a different story.

Tuition & Financial Aid: So far, my education is worth the money, but financial aid isn't easy to obtain. My family is middle class and, according to the government and every financial aid program I've dealt with, my mom makes more than enough money to support two of her four kids going to college. She is about to file bankruptcy though. So she really cannot afford to pay for my college education. My school's financial aid office's value comes from the fact that they can help me find scholarships, because federal grant and money programs are of no use to me.

Academic Experience: They all spend a lot of time with students. There is always a way to meet up with a professor and get to know them.

Tuition & Financial Aid: I came to this school because I couldn't get financial aid at the university that I was going to. I wasn't treated well and recieved no aid from the university so I went to this school because I could afford it and I wouldn't get into debt. The pricing is good here because we are getting the same credits for the same classes taken at university at a quarter of the cost.

Online Courses: Online Class – You get to work at your pace instead of rushing to get things done in you class

Campus Resources: Different Writing Programs – They have different programs that help students with their writing. They based it off of your classes you're taking that way they can help you a little bit more

Academic Experience: Fashion Design – Creative, Outgoing, Research, Observing fashion trends and history of fashion. Unique aspects are bringing your own creative ideas to life.

Campus Resources: The Library – When I first started going to ARC, the library was under construction. Now, it's amazing. The first floor is full of computers and seating. The seating on the first floor is more for groups, with large desks and tables with multiple chairs. If you're looking to study solo, go to the second floor, where there are desks split into fours and lots of comfy chairs at a comfortable distance from each one.

Campus Resources: Computer Summary – The only problem is that there isn't always a computer available, but that depends on the time of day. There's always a point in the day when you could use one for any needs you have.

Academic Experience: Budget cuts aren't actually American Rivers problem but when I am either unable to get a class that I need for my degree/certificate because they had to get rid of classes and my program happened to be the one that got cut, so even trying to stick to classes that go towards my general requirements for any degree I'm faced with the issue of being put on a waitlist, if that's not full, because so many other students are also trying to do the exact thing I'm doing. Other than that most of my professors have been nice and I think the school is a lot more involved with the students than I expected.

Online Courses: Intro to Data Communications_ CISC350 – It is a basic course that uses the "Moodle" Online course management system. It is very simple to use. There is a "Discussion" feature that allows you to post any questions regarding the assignment and receive feedback from either other students or the instructor.

Career Services: Career Center – The career center is great, they have many events throughout the school year that help you get possible jobs and check out different career options. They are open to helping anyone that comes in, everytime i've been in there someone has been able to answer my question. I do have to say a lot of times the line has been long.

Tuition & Financial Aid: American river college has been pretty decent when it comes to financial aid. I never really applied on time so part of the decent part is my fault. But other than that if you go to financial aid they are very helpful. I have never applied for any loans so i don't know how that process goes.

Academic Flexibility: American River college overall is a great school, Its being remodeled so we have many new buildings. The teachers i've had have been pretty helpful and flexable. Not hard at all, if you study and do homework. The only frustrations i've had is getting into the classes, they are cutting a lot of classes due to budget cuts so its hard to get into classes that you need. And that fit ur schedule the most.

Academic Experience: Work Is Work – It takes hard work to be good at anything. its no different where ever you go. indeed here there are many many struggles but all worth it.

Campus Resources: This is an award winning literary magazine that has one top marks
(and even beaten) the Ivy League colleges such as Standford and Yale. We are but a lowly community college and managed to win Best in the Nation. THE NATION. All the students that help to produce this peice are very dedicated.

Overall Experience: Hello! I am a student at ARC and am proud to say so, I have throroughly enjoyed all my classes thus far& truly adore my professors. I am so very grateful for the variety of resources ARC offers and even more how I'm treated within my classes. It's an honor to be a student at ARC!

Campus Resources: Excellent Resources in this school. Talk to one of the Resources Centers and they will help you out and even send you to another one if you need it. I have even had the Resource person walk me to the other Resources Center and tell them what I need help with. Very friendly people.

Academic Flexibility: Going Back to School After Many Years. American River College has been wonderful school to me. I have problems with there finical aid program, but most of the time it gets clear up. I have enjoyed going to school after 30+ years. The teachers I have had have been wonderful and friendly. The Staffers in different area's have all been extremely helpful. I would recommend this school to anyone. Everyone is very helpful and presently to talk too.

Student Body: I Feel Sexually Harrassed, Constantly. I have been at my school for a year and a half now. I have met some really cool people and have befriended a few. Very diverse in ethnicity, economical, political, religious, etc. Unfortunately, I'm overwhelmed with the feeling of being sexually harassed. Majorly occurring inside and outside the library. This school has a great library. It's three story, roof access, lots of resources, etc. But I've met a couple of weirdos on the elevator, whom have asked for my number and after a polite, "No thank you", they keep asking and asking. I've been followed out of the library and to my car. This makes me uncomfortable and does not COMPARE to how angry I feel when I exit the library. Almost EVERYDAY last semester, when I leave the library there are many groups of black guys(I say this purely for description purposes; I'm not racist and this definitely does not apply to everyone in this ethnicity), that gawk at me, look me up and down, blatantly stare at me as they lick their lips. These men say all kinds of things that are uncalled for. It disgusts me and angers me to the point I can't even study for the rest of the day.

Academic Flexibility: Not Have Priority Registration Is Horrible – There may be a lot of flexibility, in that there are many classes in mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Also, there are classes available on the weekends and online. Unfortunately, if you have less that 30 units, are not handicapped, and are not involved in playing sports, then you most likely will have HORRIBLE registration dates. This means you will NOT have a decent schedule. The first year and a half, I had to suffer with driving all the way to school every day of the week or I had classes in the mornings and nights, on the same day, with 5 hours breaks in between. There was also a semester that I had to take Friday and Saturday classes; as well as an entire semester online! It's just the worst feeling; planning your classes and then watching them fill up before you can even enroll.

Now that I have 33 completed units, I FINALLY have good registration times and have an awesome schedule this coming semester.

Academic Experience: Class Registration – Getting in to the classes the you need is really hard. You always end up taking classes or any at all because the classes are full by the time you have to register.
