5 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: American River being a community college is an affordable way to earn your GE credits and earn an AA if you are hurting for money. Takes a couple of years but persistence is the key. we offer scholarships for all academic areas and financial aid to those that qualify

College Junior

Career Services: I really have not studied or looked into rather the college career services here at ARC, but from what I've seen advertised around campus the staff and volunteers are pretty knowledgeable about how to help students find a job to fit their current situation or educational background.

5 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: I love the professors, they are very interested in teaching and easy to talk to. I haven't had alot of problems with professors, and the ones I have had were smoothed over quickly by a few emails or just conversations after class.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: The internet dies sometimes during class when the teacher is showing us something online. The computer lab isn't always open, but if you come at the right times then it's a very nice place.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: Lots of campus resources, they have a writing center, computers to use, library, math tutoring, and lots of information on career planning and help with resumes.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: The classes are good, love most of my professors. Of all the classes I've taken(15 or more) there have only been maybe 2 teachers I wouldn't take again.

5 Recent Alumnus

Career Services: My school has mostly helpful counselors, a Transfer Center, Transfer Day, Career Day, and a Career Center and are more than willing to give you all the information and assistance you may need.

2 Recent Alumnus

Student Body: The student body at ARC is very diverse and that sometimes makes it a little overwhelming. While I know that crimes on campus do happen, none have affected me directly as long as I've been attending the school.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: I also give this a B- because they block some sites that are needed for school, for example face book, I would like to be part of the LBGT organization but their meetings are during class time. They gave a facebook but because facebook is blocked I couldn't add it. The library is my only computer access.

3 College Junior

Career Services: Since I have been attending I, haven't heard much about the alumni. The career center, CalWORK's, and EOP&S have been as helpful as they can when it comes to needing help.

4 College Junior

Campus Resources: The resources at my campus are very good the library is big and nice and there is a theatre. There is a Subway on campus which is a good healthy choice. There is plenty of social spots to meet up with friends and study or socialize.

4 College Junior

Campus Resources: There is a program to help students with english and math. Also essay and writing skills. Taking of this program also count as units.

3 College Junior

Student Body: There is a big diversity of students at my school. Its a very chill environment and everyone seems to be focused and committed to their work. I have met old friends and new friends.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: I wish the wifi connection was available more throughout the campus. I have my own laptop so I barely use the computers but I have and there very reliable and printing on campus isn't a problem.

5 College Senior

Student Body: We have and welcome all types of students with all kinds of backgrounds. There are clubs here ranging from Pacific Islanders to Native Americans. These clubs even run some events at the school to help students understand and enjoy some of our other cultures. As far as diversity goes, it doesn't get much better than at ARC.

3 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: Given that the tuition keeps going up and up, it's getting more difficult to be able to afford, but the education I am receiving is important to me. I was receiving financial aid but am no longer qualified because of attempting 72+ units and unsatisfactory progress because of the amount of withdrawals I had accumulated. The only problem I had was the fact the financial aid office took into account the units I had tried to complete 30+ years ago which I thought was unfair. New students should make sure they know all the rules and stipulations to financial aid before they start.

4 College Junior

Online Courses: I wasn't too sure about online courses at first but after taking a couple at American River College, I found online courses interesting and different from traditional classroom courses. They do require more studying and reading because the lectures in the classroom are covered online through more reading material. It did take more dedication on my part, making sure to complete work by deadlines. Just because it is online doesn't make passing the course easier. I had to learn how to manage my time especially since I had classes on campus also. The good part is that you don't have professors telling you what is due, or that you can't come in to class because you are late. It is a different way of learning but I managed to stay on top of assignments and complete my work on time. It can be quite challenging at times but self-discipline is important for success. I prefer the traditional classroom environment over online courses even though I did well in it.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: The on campus daycare program. I am a grand-foster parent and it is excellent to be able to attend college and have the children provided for as well.

3 College Senior

Academic Experience: The curriculum fits the objectives. The registration process is good. But I disagree with the new change coming. Students who are juniors and seniors should have first priority not new comers. They haven't earned so to speak their badge to be first.

3 College Senior

Academic Experience: I don't necessarily agree with having to take some of the electives. They have nothing in common with my major. I don't also like having to take repeated classes I took in High school just to transfer to a university. Example history classes, and P.E. They have nothing to do with my major.

2 College Senior

Overall Experience: This school rating has gone done due to the following reasons.
When I first enrolled as a re-entry student resources and support was available. Now because of the weak economy and "everyone" is back in school it is impossible to get the support needed.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: I really cant say i enjoyed the school much, but it served its purpose getting me my GE and AA and i can finally now transfer out to a 4 year college.

3 College Junior

Career Services: In all honesty i really don't know, most students either receive the certificate they wanted, graduate, or transfer.

3 College Junior

Academic Experience: All the Professors that Ive taken all want you to succeed, and they always are up front with you about what they expect you to be able to do and handle. Unfortunately a fair amount of students are only "here" to get financial aid and a few drop out of class midway through the semester making it rather daunting. class registration is fairly easy and can be done online, but please talk to a counselor so they can help with your needs.

5 College Junior

Campus Resources: I think this school has alot of great resourses. I would say all there science classes are pretty well equiped with materials. The library is fantastic and the tuturing programs they have are wonderful. Overall I think this campus has every resource one needs for there programs of study.
