Academic Experience: Less Busywork and Better Organization – The professors are far beyond qualified for the positions at APU. I am very impressed with the staff, curriculum, and functionality of the site! Two major critiques are:

1) Less Busywork. I feel that the discussions aren't as solid as they could be if we weren't sometimes required to make so many posts --- some of which are redundant (requiring us to pick student posts that were significant and why, etc.... normally I only respond to posts I find significant and I feel that most would react that way. So the student ends up commenting about the same thing twice). Some teachers throw a lot of requirements at you but then are lacking in feedback and participation in the discussions.

2) Better Organization. There should only be ONE central location where assignments are posted. Some teachers post assignments in three different areas making it very difficult to keep an organized weekly planner.

Overall, the experience is great and I would highly recommend the school to other people. I referred my boyfriend and he starts next week :)

Academic Flexibility: American Military University – I chose this school because oit is online and most teachers try to be flexible with school work due to mainly having active duty military students. So far all my teachers have been understanding of my job and why I might need an extra day or two for an assigment.

Student Body: American Military University – My school consists of part-time working class students and teachers. Some of the teachers juggle their time between teaching and working, just like most students. The school is very military friendly and a good percentage of the students are currently serviving in Active Duty Military while others are retired.

Career Services: They have offered advice on how to talk to potential employers and what to look for in applying for my chosen career field of museums. They suggested that I start asking potential employers what are their requirements for employment. This was valuable info in that I now know I will need a Master's for most museum positions.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Very Easy but Do It Early as Possible – The financial aid process was easy and quick. The tuition is very reasonable for the knowledge that I am learning for my future career. My tip for someone looking to go back to school would be to do your homework and figure out what you want to get your degree in first and then find the online college that is affordable (like APUS) for your budget. Not to mention, give yourself plenty of time to get all of your paperwork done.

Online Courses: This is definitely a change for me because I am used to going to typical brick and mortar school but I do like the freedom to get the assignments done when I want throughout the week. If I have a question for the professor, I just email them and they typically get back to me the next day.

Academic Flexibility: The Only Thing They Get About the Work Flexible Is the Letter "F" – I was snowed into this program with their promises of flexibility, cutting edge technolgy, and dedicated faculty.

What a JOKE.

They claim that the benefits of being online is that your make your own attendance times and they are understanding of the student's busy schedule - the only part of the word flexible they understand is the letter "F" at the beginning of the word. Can't turn your assignments in on time, because of circumstances beyond your control? Follow the guidance, email the professor who never acknowledges you in the first place, call and leave a message on the main line number that NEVER gets picked up, leave a message that will never be returned, and what kind of understanding and flexibility do you get? An "F", and they keep your $750.

Their technology fails and they are aware of it, preventing you from completing a test? Follow the guidance, email the professor to ask them to reopen the test so that you can complete it on time. What kind of understanding and flexibility do you get? The professor never bothers to acknowledge your email and gives you an "F", and they keep your $750.

Then, after they do this to you twice in an academic year - they pull your financial aid eligibility and ask you to shell out the $1500 for the next two classes out of pocket to try to "earn back" your eligibility.

Student Body: Most Are Military or Work Full Time – It has become common knowledge that the standards of APUS are so lax that anyone can turn in any half-baked product and get a decent grade. The lazy and undereducated nature of the classmates that you are to have "meaninful and constructive" discussions with makes it difficult to actually learn anything.

Academic Flexibility: Very Flexible for the Military – I obtained both my Associate's and Bachelor's Degree through the American Public University System because of their willingness to be flexible with Active Duty Service Members. Through all of my deployments and time away from home, APUS was always willing to help me get through my challenges while allowing me to obtain a solid education that I have begun to utilize in my current position on Active Duty.

Overall Experience: Good Choice – Being in the military and having a very hectic schedule, this school makes it easier to get my education despite the time constraints. But, this school would be better if they offered academic scholarships as an additional incentive for students to keep high academic records.

Academic Experience: More Participation – The professors seem to only really respond to a few people in the forum and some have fallen a couple weeks behind (in an eight week course) when grading the student's work. They should be responsible for responding to every student, rather than pick a different student each week, to respond to in order to properly evaluate each student to ensure progression in assignments.

Academic Experience: The classes rely on a system that forces the students to participate fully by completing the reading that's assigned. The research papers I've been asked to do have been relevant to the course and assisted with giving me a full understanding of the class contents. For a person that is gone a lot (TDYs and possible future deployments), the classes are not so difficult where I feel like I'm struggling to maintain a decent grade.

Overall Experience: This college is fairly affordable compared to most online colleges. I have had some wonderful instructors as well! I would definitely recommend this school to others.

5 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: Academic Flexibility – The instructors are all different. Many instructors are sensitive to the needs of the working/independent student. This is very helpful and can only bring more academic success to the students.

Campus Resources: The resources are all available in an online format.

Campus Resources: APUS is a very affordable, fully accredited college. They haven't raised their tuition in approximately 10 years. This college is popular among the military too. You can attend this college from just about anywhere in the world.

Student Body: The student body at my college is very diverse. Students study here from all over the world.

College Senior

Campus Resources: To my knowledge, this does not apply, as this is an online college.

Online Courses: Registration Process & Workload – I chose American Public University System because of the ease of access to the University's website. I found it quite easy to register online from my laptop and go through from registration to enrolment. As a working professional, I find the University very convenient for me. APUS offers each student flexibility in managing their workload and you can have ample time to complete your degree online.

Academic Experience: Great Minds – The professors I've had have always been eager and willing to listen. its one of those thing that if you communicate and express your thoughts, issues or concerns, they are more then willing to reciprocate and to me that's key. I feel a student always learns better if they feel a sense of understanding and clarity with their instructor.

Online Courses: So Much to Learn – From my experience with APU the online courses have been comprehensive and the professor/student relationship amazing. To me the most important aspect of learning is being 100% with your instructor so that they know whats on your plate aside from the course material. My past professors have been very open to listening and making sure i understand the material through and through, and to me that's a big deal. Its not very often you find an institution that is out for YOU to get to where you want to be education wise.

5 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: My education is more then important to me, its what I'm building my families lives on. So whenever i enroll in a course with the understanding of its cost it's more then worth it to me. My rating for the tuition and financial aide offered at APU is an A+ because they work hard to ensure every student has the chance to achieve that educational goal they set out to achieve and for that i am grateful.

5 College Junior

Career Services: Career Center – I already explained the great services that I got from the career service. I believe it should be advertised more in the home page of the website. It is really useful to students.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Prof. Patton – My first professor was great. She was very knowledgable and worked in the field that I am majoring. I told her that I was a civilian and she recommended that the students not use acronyms while posting to the forums since some students do not have a military background after I told her I had problems understanding what other students were talking about.

5 College Junior

Campus Resources: Career Center – As I mentioned before the Career Services is great. I also signed up for the career fair that I found on the home page. That have great opportunities for job placements.
