Online Courses: The workload seems to have much more content and workload than traditional classrooms. Most online students don't have time to go to a classroom, but my experience was you can go on a vacation and not miss work or an exam. The convenience out weighs the adversities.

Academic Experience: I was really amazed at how easy the class registration process is, I submitted my application, they took my transcripts, ran them, and then set up an academic plan after I had chosen my major. I can access my academic plan whenever I want, and choose my classes by simply clicking them in my plan. Once registered, I submit my payment and then I can access the course when it opens. They also have many available sections for each course, so I never have to worry about there not being room for my chosen subject.

Academic Experience: I am majoring in Intelligence Studies, but I have yet to take any courses specific to my major. I am focusing on getting all of my general education out of the way. However, I have already had the opportunity to speak with other students majoring in the same thing, and they have told me they enjoy it, don't feel too overwhelmed with courses and the instructors are all really helpful and great.

Academic Flexibility: My experience at APU so far has been wonderful. I was intimidated at first by having to navigate through the classes online but it is not that difficult to figure out. Since I can go into the classroom anytime day or night, I have an advantage because I can juggle my plans around the rest of my life. I also love the fact that some classes use e-books but if I prefer I can obtain a through a vender of my choice. Also, the cirriculum offers me a variety of classes to take with my degree program.

Online Courses: When I first returned to school my classes were all in the classroom. After about two semesters I began ALL online classes. By far, online classes are more difficult. While you can work on your classwork on your own schedule, there are deadlines to meet just as in a classroom, but you do not have the instructor right there to answer questions. You have to post them and wait for a reply. Also, much of your learning is self-taught as you will read and read and read and read some more. Some instructor's use powerpoint presentations but most do not (as far as the ones I have had). Still, I have learned a lot in my classes. I was very nervous about this degree program (intelligence studies) since I have NO experience in that field; but the instructors and fellow classmates welcomed me with open arms. I think I have helped my classmates learn as well since I can give them an outsiders viewpoint. I would definitely do it all over again!

Student Body: The school body is definitely a hard working group. From my past courses I have seen many of them reach out to others to help when needed even offering their assistance. The students also demonstrate good educated academic work with the weekly discussion forums.

Tuition & Financial Aid: AMU/APUS was extremely friendly and helpful with providing me any answers I had to my questions which were very few because there are plenty of resources to read through on the web page. Plus I believe ther tuition prices are in fact the best and you definitely get your money's worth especially if your part of the military.

Online Courses: The majority of courses have been high quality, interesting, and worth-while. Most professors are personable and helpful. Occasionally there will be one who obviously resents being an online teacher and takes it out on those of us who are merely there to learn. Fortunately, they are more the exception than the rule.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The tuition is quite reasonable. The financial aid department is great when everything works well, however if there is a problem it takes forever to get resolved. They do no answer the phone, and emails are answered with a form letter that does not address the issue.

Campus Resources: This system works very well for people who are busy in their lives as the classroom is asynchronous. There are certain assignments due on specific days each week, however there is no requirement to be in the classroom at any exact time. It is a very flexible learning method for fitting into a work and/or parenting schedule.

Career Services: I have not yet utilized this service, but have glanced through it. I love that you can look up careers based on your major, and it gives you ideas of places to apply that one may have not immediately thought of. I also love that on the home page, there is always an ad to ensure students are aware of the service.

Online Courses: I found it easy to register for online classes, and the online classrooms themselves are simple to navigate. The workload is generally managable, although every once in a while there is a professor who thinks their class is the only one you may be taking. All of the professors I have had so far have done a great job with professor/student interaction. As for the peer-to-peer interaction -- I could do without it.

Campus Resources: Although I am an online student, I am very impressed with all of the faculty at my school. The professors are always willing to help, as are all the support staff, whether it be help with the library or financial aid. I also really appreciate that there is always an email or notice when the system will be down due to inclement weather or updates, or when staff will be limited due to holidays.

Career Services: From what I know I believe that their services are very helpful.

Academic Flexibility: AMU is great with the selection of classes they offer and how often they're offered. They offer sixteen and eight week classes. I've transfered twenty five credits from another institution and it was very straight forward and done in a timely manor.

Tuition & Financial Aid: My schools financial aid office is excellent in helping with the process of applying for federal student aid. Anytime I've had any issues or questions there is always someone on the phone who is more than willing to answer any questions I have. The information that they have given me is all correct thus far.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The financial aid process is very confusing and the financial aid department does not keep you informed of the status of your funding, or explain how to pay tuition if you plan to pay partially with financial aid money and partially with other funds. They are slow to respond to e-mailed questions, and do not provide clear, concise answers.

5 College Junior

Campus Resources: APU was the only online school that offers a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Studies completely online. All other schools I researched required at least one-half of the courses to be attended on campus.

5 College Junior

Student Body: The students in my classrooms have been from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, as well as geographic locations. From various discussions held in the forums, it is clear there are diverse religious beliefs and affiliations, economic backgrounds, and political ideals.

4 College Junior

Campus Resources: Because American Public University is an online school, everything is done through computer. They use Sakai, which does not communicate well with
Microsoft programs. After some training, it becomes easier, but there is a time limit for online access to classes and, for example, if you do not save your work and post in a forum, you may be timed out and lose all your work. Watching the tutorials is VERY important.

3 College Junior

Campus Resources: The online library is not very user friendly. It took me about three or four tries to understand how to find course guide books, and the software used does not always work well on my computer, which can be very frustrating.

5 College Junior

Online Courses: weekly forums and discussion. Instructors are always available and there are chat forums for general questions that all students can assist each other with.

5 College Junior

Campus Resources: I have had no issues with logging in or using any of the materials online. The campus is very good about communicating times when they will be upgrading or working on the systems.

Academic Flexibility: I am giving an A because overall the benefits have far out-weighed the problems. I am now three months from graduating with my bachelor degree and am looking forward to starting a master degree at another school. The flexibility, promptness in responses and communication from teachers, students, and the help services, has been highly helpful to me. I have really appreciated my experience with APUS.

4 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: While it has not been perfect such as at times when I was having trouble figuring out the software or the websites that further complicated an otherwise easy assignment, I have had an overall awesome experience with this school because it has enabled me to get done what I need to while still holding a schedule with the other things that take priorities in my life. Once you understand the software and websites that are affiliated, it all works out. My favorite part is the Student Services which are available by email any time of the week. They are pretty quick to respond with assignment help or technical problems and have nine times out of ten helped me solve my such problems. Also, there is an online tutoring service that I have never used but might sometime just to try it out.
