Career Services: Amazing Audition Opportunities – In your final semester you only have the option of attending evening classes from 5:30 to 11, forcing you to leave your days open for auditions. I think this is an incredibly valuable opportunity and many students attend 4+ auditions a year. Luckily for students, if at any time you are cast in a show, you can leave school and complete the show, and then come back to finish your coursework.

Tuition & Financial Aid: There are so many students that qualify for need based assistance and that makes the opportunity to receive Financial Aid much more difficult than other comparable schools. However the school is pretty generous with offering scholarships, and there are countless, and I do mean countless student worker positions, so you can make ends meet if you are determined.

Campus Resources: Dorm Life at the Stratford Arms – The dorm used to be a hotel so there are definitely nice aspects of them. There is a computer lab, a spacious outdoor patio, two rehearsal spaces, a kitchen, and a common area. The major disadvantages are that you are not allowed to have guests, period. The only exception are your parents, and siblings. (Step-siblings are not allowed) You can under no exception have over night guests, and your family members must leave at eleven. The
'Strat' is nine blocks away from school, a fifteen minute walk on a nice day, and up to a twenty-five minute walk during the snow. Most everyone at the 'Strat' has a single room, so you do not need to worry about roommate stress. There are four showers on every floor, and there are plenty of restrooms. Half of the rooms share a private bathroom between two rooms.

Career Services: A Teacher's Worth Its Weight in Gold – As an alum at my school, we still have access to all of our school resources such as the library, copy machines, sheet music selection, scripts, and certain lessons with musical directors. Also, since most of the teachers at AMDA are working actors, or somehow in the business, have connections to a multiple of outlets, it is possible a teacher may help us with finding work.

Academic Experience: How All Schools Should Work! All of our Academic requirements for the school are performance related, so all of the teachers have to be very familiar with the theatre world. I have yet to have a teacher who did not care about each individual. Each class never had more than 20 students in it, so there was a lot of personal help and work. The course load is based upon the teachers' objective of the class. They all give a ton of work, but it's nothing you can't handle and it's purpose it to push us as far as we can go. All the teachers are rooting for us to succeed.

Academic Flexibility: 'To Be or Not to Be. That Is the Question.' – I chose my school because of its intense course load. This school is considered a conservatory school that helps you focus on how to become successful in the theatre community. Thanks to its location, conveniently in the middle of Manhattan, all of its students have access to the best libraries in the world. Including the one in our own building! It's a terrific school if you're serious about the arts. If not, it's full of hassles and frustrations.

Campus Resources: Making the Best With What's Given – Our Library is filled with the majority of plays the average acting student needs. Along with books like the complete works of Shakespeare or of John Patrick Shanley. The gym is nice, but it's small; three treadmills and a 3 in 1 weight lifting machine. When it comes to the computers, the internet connection is pretty poor. It's common to go on the computer and have the internet connection go out for half and hour or even longer than that at times. The best thing to do is to use a lap top, but even at times that fails too.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Can Money Effect My Future? Financial Aid? It's Awful. Being a Conservatory, many banks don't loan to AMDA. I started Fall 2008, but when I was returning for Fall 2009, I had less funding than the year before. I was afraid of what'd happen if I went to school and couldn't pay off my semester so I took a year off to find a job and save up. I did and I was very happy to return in Fall 2010 to see my friends, make new ones, and to continue my education. A week before my fourth semester begun, I was told that I owed $10,000 and it had to be paid in full by the end of the week. Every loan was denied and I had no where else to turn. So now my worst fear came true, I was kicked out and forced to take another year off. Heartbroken and disappointed, I returned home in search of the financial support that my school couldn't give to me. I would of graduated this coming year, but instead I'm paying off my third semester. Money can kick me out of school every year for as long as it likes. I know money is not on my side, but I must fight to get my education and my degree. AMDA is where I'm supposed to be.

Overall Experience: The AMDA Experience – The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) is not your average school. As a Conservatory for Acting, we don't have sport teams, rivals, clubs, or even a mascot. School Spirit is really just the passion we have and show through our work in class and on the stage. I love it more than I thought I ever would. Sometimes we get together to play flag football, basketball, or what ever we can do in Hollywood like go to movie premieres, plays, or free showings to pass the time.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Bang for Your Buck – The school is expensive, but the education is well worth it. Just keep asking over and over for information on scholarships. There is a small scholarship for good grades ($2,500, half each semester) that does help. However, it's very hard to get in touch with financial aid.

Academic Flexibility: No Time to Mess Around. I came here because of this schools intensive disiplinary reputation. I didn't want to get distracted by typical college life partying. I wanted my teachers to keep me on my feet and not let me slip. My schedule is made for me and I am expected to be on time to every class. I have learned an incredible amount of focus and disipline from this school.

Academic Experience: Hands on Experience! As an acting major, I get hands on experience on real world situations. All of my teachers are in the business, so they share their stories with us and put us in difficult situations that they themselves have faced so that we can learn to handle ourselves professionaly and get the job done. There are high levels of stress here, but the good thing about that is there will be no surprises when I enter the real world. Going to AMDA is like living with a true acting career, with all the perks and dissapointments that come along with it!

Career Services: A Lot of People Get Work Out of AMDA – I've looked at the alumni and the people on Broadway. A lot of them are working. I believe the connections you make here are the biggest perks of all.

Academic Experience: Dancer Teachers Could Try Harder. Sometimes my dance teachers don't feel like doing stuff that deals with dance. If she feels to tired to teach she'll sit in a chair pop in a ballet and say "take notes." This is dance class. I would like to dance. I try to put as much effort into this, I wish you would as well.

Student Body: Learn to Love Your Group – At the beginning of the semester they group you seemingly at random, if you don't like your group you're stuck with them so you better make nice.

Tuition & Financial Aid: You Get What You Give. The tuition for AMDA is rather pricey and although I feel they charge too much people who put a lot into the program get a lot out of it. All of the teachers are trained professionals working in the business and if you impress them they will give you job opportunities. So although I wish I was paying less I feel I will get hired because of this school.

Career Services: Alumni Network Sucessful – Amda has keeps in significant contact will all of its alumni. It even goes as for as to allow them you come back to use any and all of the equipment and stages when ever they need. It is a nice feeling knowing you can always come home.

Campus Resources: New York City – Being so close to the city is amazing. I am one block from central park and about 15 from time square which is sooo much fun. And there's so much experience in the city.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: I love the school, it doesn't have a traditional campus but it is right in the city which I love dearly. The only complaint is the dorms but it's totally ok because it's in New York right by central park and time square.

4 College Freshman

Tuition & Financial Aid: Always Ask Questions – You always have to be on the ball and keep asking for more ways to get financial help through the school. AMDA gives great help financially, but you have to do the research or you'll get the minimum. The faculty is kind so don't waste another minute and start communicating with them.

Academic Experience: Starstruckk Fantasy – I study acting so playing a different role almost everyday is pretty fun if u like lying. The work is decent if you like writing and do unexpected things.

Campus Resources: The social scene is great as all campus locations are right in the middle of major cities. They also offer incredible faculty who have amazing connections. The administration is awful.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: I love the school. However, I don't think it's great that they make it impossible to receive financial aid. If it were based solely on their willingness to help students who are not wealthy they would receive an F.

3 College Freshman

Academic Flexibility: Flexibility Is Not an Option. The flexibility at the school is slim to none. When it comes to homework or any tests, the teachers give no sympaty, or extention. As for Attendence, they have a strict, 15 class absence policy, saying that if we miss more than 15 classes in a semester, we are giving Attendence probation, any more absences and we are excused from the school. There isnt any way to make the absences up. or any excuses.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The school's tuition, is insane to compare, considering its a performing arts school, and not a regular university. The Financial Aid department trys to help, but there isnt much they can do, but to lead the students in what to do.
