Local Atmosphere: There is nothing to do here unless you drive into Milwaukee.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Alverno College is located in the city and you are close to stores, bus lines, not too far from Miller Park for baseball, and just a bus ride away from the lake. You can always find something to do in the city.

Local Atmosphere: It is nice being so close to Milwaukee. There is so much more to do there.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: The school being in Milwaukee means that there is always a place to go out. There is Miller Park, lots of stores: Target, Walmart, shoe stores, dinning.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Going to an all girl school isn't the college life most people dream of when they are still in high school, it's better for some. At my school there isn't much of a campus life, being a private school and all girls the class sizes are very small and many don't dorm. There is no boys allowed in dorms but can come to the school events. Most student will just go home after class and not stay stick around on the weekends or night. This make the college less fun because nothing is going on to bring us all together. I do like how friendly everyone is too each other which surprised me since it's all girls, but there's no boys to start the drama which is great. There is a mall a few blocks away from the campus which I love and go to all the time, also the brewer stadium is another big attraction a lot of the students will go to. But other than that there's not much to do around school especially if you live on campus without a car.

Alverno College is on the southern side of Milwaukee in the middle of a quiet residential area, which has its pros and its cons. It is easy to forget Alverno is even in Milwaukee because it is not downtown between the skyscrapers and next to Lake Michigan. However, being removed from the urban hustle is nice, as well. Also, living in a residential area provides lots of trees and more green space than living downtown. Milwaukee is a student-friendly city, seeing as there are so many colleges within the city. Everything seems to be within a 15-minute drive, including museums that have days where students can get free or discounted admission. Milwaukee also has one of the best zoos in the country. In the winter, there are toboggan runs, snow tubing, and snowboarding. Many of these events are cheap or free for students. There are also a few malls within a 15- to 20-minute drive from campus.

Students at Alverno spend a lot of time on campus during the week, but a majority goes home on weekends since many are from the surrounding Milwaukee area. This can definitely make the weekends less fun. However, during the school year, Weekend College—exactly what it sounds like: classes that are held on the weekend—brings more life to campus, but it is only every other weekend. But, overall, regardless of the things you like to do or foods you like to eat, Milwaukee has something for everyone.
