Weather: The winter in Wisconsin is entirely too long – The winter in Wisconsin is entirely too long! Any students who are coming from other states should be sure to bundle up!

3 Niche User

Weather: You'll need everything from shorts to sweaters – The winter weather is a problem because people don't know how to drive in snow. The rest of the year it's beautiful and sunny. Students who are not going home during the semester should bring everything from shorts to sweaters!

2 Niche User

Weather: The weather here is unpredictable and it's never too hot or too cold for very long! Although, I don't like living in Milwaukee because I can't snow mobile and do all the outdoors stuff I normally do in the winter.

3 Niche User

Weather: Everything is connected on campus through tunnels – Living in the dorms makes weather a lot easier to brave! Luckily, everything is connected on campus through tunnels! Wisconsin is definitely a four season state.

4 Niche User

Weather: I love Wisconsin weather! I love snowmobiling and sledding. As long as there is something to do outside, I am happy.

3 Niche User

Weather: Extremes in all seasons – We experience extremes in all seasons. The arctic winter weather will cut you to the bone. Even Wisconsin veterans bless the inventions of thermal and lip balm. Boots, gloves, and a scarf are must haves. In summer, less is more. Dorm rooms are without AC and your sweating profusely will quickly melt away your freshman 15.

3 Niche User

Transportation: We should have a free bus pass – I think we should have a pass to get free busing in Milwaukee like other colleges around the area have. That would be helpful, even though I have a car.

4 Niche User

Transportation: Mega Bus – I take the Mega Bus to Chicago to go home all the time. It is super easy to get to and it's pretty cheap for the weekend. I just take a regular bus downtown to the bus station!

3 Niche User

Transportation: Riding the bus is definitely a hassle – Because Milwaukee is so spread out, riding the bus is definitely a hassle. Living in Bay View makes taking the bus to Alverno pretty easy- otherwise a bus ride could take up more time than it is worth.

3 Niche User

Transportation: Bus fare has gone up considerably – I haven't ridden the bus in a long time but I hear the bus fare has gone up considerably. When I rode the bus, there were a lot of students who were going to high school that rode the bus everyday.

3 Niche User

Transportation: The bus system gets me where I need to go – The bus system gets me where I need to go. Although it does take a really long time to get anywhere. I usually listen to my Ipod or read for class.

3 Niche User

Transportation: Most people drive in Milwaukee – Most people drive in Milwaukee. It's not like Chicago where the public transportation is more reliable and has more options.

3 Niche User

Transportation: Amtrak and taxis can be expensive – The Amtrak is pretty expensive but useful if you want to go on a cross country trip. Cabs here are pretty on time but can be kind of expensive depending where you want to go.

3 Niche User

Transportation: Bus system isn't user friendly and quite confusing – The bus system does not seem very user friendly and quite confusing. The exchange students I have roomed with, who were used to great public transportation thought it was really hard to get around Milwaukee.

4 Niche User

Transportation: Parking is not an issue – Parking on campus has become more accessible and available with the addition of the parking structure. No matter what building you have class in; parking is usually never an issue. Every building has its own parking lot. There is ample parking on all of the streets surrounding campus as well. If the individual lots become full, the best option is the structure. It is relatively close to the main building on campus and once in the main building the other entire building are connected through hallways and an underground tunnel.

2 Niche User

Transportation: Milwaukee buses are slow and not reliable – I don't use it. I have a car and pretty much drive myself where I need to go. Milwaukee buses are not reliable. Not to mention, it takes forever to get anywhere.

4 Niche User

Parking: A lot more spots – Before the parking structure we had a small lot that wasn't only for the dorms. Now there is a lot more places to park. so it's crowded but there is almost always a place to park that is close.

4 Niche User

Parking: I like the parking structure because it makes it easy to find a spot right away. The structure has an elevator too which is sweet!

5 Niche User

Parking: Parking's easy, what can I say?

4 Niche User

Parking: Always a spot close to where you are going – For residents, parking is nice because you can always find a parking spot. It may not be as close as I wanted it to be. Parking is around all buildings so there is almost always something close to where you are going.

3 Niche User

Parking: Lots of rules about where to park – There is ample parking now that there is a Parking Structure which has three floors. However, there are strict rules for where students can park and where they have to park if they live in the dorms. Which kind of sucks. It would be nice if students could park wherever they wanted to.

4 Niche User

Parking: With the addition of the parking structure, there is a lot more space for both residents and non but there is still a race to find the good parking spot as it fills up quickly. It's a good idea to get to campus early.

Niche User

Parking: Note of advice: Do not play hacky-sack on top of the parking structure. The Security personal will not be appreciatory.

5 Niche User

Parking: I love that I don't have to pay for parking! Everywhere else in Milwaukee makes you pay for parking!

4 Niche User

Parking: Try to make it to school 10 mins before your class – Do try to make it to school at least ten minutes before you have class. Even though we have a parking structure, it still takes a few minutes to walk down from the fourth floor if that is the only place to park.

Most students who have made it through the majority of their years at Alverno say that they cannot imagine being anywhere else. In fact, many students who leave Alverno to go to other schools because of finances or because they didn't think Alverno was a good fit, often come back. Alverno is not just a school—it's a place that teaches women to think outside of the box and to understand themselves. It becomes a home for many people. Alverno graduates go on to become important women in their workplaces, communities, churches, and homes. The College offers students a unique opportunity to take a really good look at themselves and say, "Who am I?" and "Is this who I really want to be?"

Most people say that going to college is an investment in your future, but coming to Alverno is an investment in not only your future, but also your community's future. Almost all students who graduate from Alverno get a job within six months of graduation. Its graduates are competent, well-rounded, and have made a name both locally and internationally. At Alverno, students are pushed to analyze documents, literature, and one another. They are also encouraged to continuously self-assess and focus on their success.
