Overall Experience: The experience I had at this school was life changing. The faculty truly cared about my success. I made friendships that will last a lifetime with both students and staff. What this school lacks in size it makes up for in resources such as off-campus research opportunities and an excellent internship program. It is also very family-friendly and has an excellent daycare facility. I highly recommend considering this school for all women!

Scholarships: The scholarship opportunities are endless! I received every single scholarship I applied for. Since it is a small school, the faculty and staff know the students and will approach you if they know of a scholarship that would apply to you. We are also given the opportunity to thank our scholarship donors once a year at a special dinner, which is always a fun time.

Parking: There is plenty of parking on campus. This includes several lots, a brand new parking structure, and street parking. Parking checkers are not a problem here and street parking is totally safe and free.

Off-Campus Dining: Bayview Area Is Close – The closest things to campus are some chain restaurants and fast food places. A quick drive, bike ride, or bus ride away is the city of Bayview which has many more options. My favorites are Honeypie and Pastiche. Milwaukee is really getting into the local slow food movement so the ingredients are always fresh and delicious!

Campus Strictness: I'm starting this fall semester, so there is not much I can say. I have heard that security is always around and partying is not something the girls at the campus are known for doing. I guess I will have to find out as soon as I start!

Diversity: Only Women – This is an all women school, and for which most are white. It's a private Catholic College, but I knew that before applying. I wasn't looking at those factors when I applied. I was more interested in my career of choice, and Alverno offered exactly what I needed.
Its process in accepting a student is fairly quick. They stay in contact with you as soon as you apply and they are very helpful throughout the admission process.

Campus Housing: I Do Not Live on Campus – Although i do not live on campus, I did take a tour a few weeks ago. The dorms aren't very modern, the school itself is very old. What I did like about the dorms, is that they are very close to the school. Everything is so close together making it convenient to get to and from school fairly quick.

Weather: everytime when we have a big storm coming the school lets us know via email that school is closed because of the weather condition.

Off-Campus Housing: I Live in Appartment Close to My School. I live in one bedroom appartment close to my school. The rent is not so bad. There plenty of appartments around my school so tis good most of them are not very expensive but I want to live in nicer place I probably moved from my current appartment. It gets cold durong winter in the appartment.

Academics: I am in Alverno College. I do like this college because classes are smaller size than other bid universitites. If want any help I can always contact to my intructors easily by Alverno email. However, we dont have much opportunities to get involved in some avtivities ther are very small numbers of thing we can on campus.
I have a Biology major and its great here at my college because when I want to do laboratory experiment the labs usually not so crowded and the tools are available to me. I am having a hard time finding a good internshiip opportunities here.

Scholarships: A Little Bit of a Hassle but Very Helpful – I felt that the financial aid process in general was a hassle and a lot of work but Alverno's financial aid office was very helpful. I got some financial aid but it was not enough so I had to go through outside loans to finish paying for classes.

Athletics: Not Enough Involvement – I feel the athletic department is alright at Alverno, but because it's an all girl's school I feel like they don't give the athletes enough credit. I also feel like there isn't enough advertisement about different games and meets so I never know when the games are.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Needs More Variety – We only have one main dining hall on campus and it has good food but there isn't much of a variety. They have the same food everyday except for one main entry that gets switched. Another problem is that it isn't open long enough. Last semester I had a couple late classes and they closed before lunch time so I wasn't able to eat dinner. I do not live on campus so I did not purchase a mean plan so I don't know how those work.

Overall Experience: Not Your Average College Experience. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out of the typical college experience because there aren't large house parties or Greek life and that sort of vibe to our campus, so if you're looking for that, look elsewhere. But the class sizes are small and intimate, the teachers know your name (again could be a pro or con) you start to get to know students better and there are always campus events going on, everything from Study with a Waffle Night to Global Union, a world music festival open to the public. Alverno's name pulls weight in the community and the school events are often intertwined with community events, It's nice to feel like my network is larger than just the campus; it extends to the city of Milwaukee.

Nightlife: There is not much going on at Alverno. Campus is pretty residential and they are the 2nd quietest dorms in the nation. Pretty rigid rules. If you want nightlife, head down to the Eastside by the University Wisconsin Milwaukee campus.

Computers: Accessible Technology and Resources – There is one major computer lab and multiple smaller ones in various buildings. The large lab has classrooms and smaller meeting rooms attached, meaning you can meet for group work without disturbing the studious atmosphere of the lab. You are granted about 400 free pages a semester, but most teachers allow electronic copies of homework to be turned in so I have yet to run out in 3 years of attending Alverno. They have come a long way since I started in dealing with slow network issues. The network overall is fast and reliable. Also, campus wide wifi.

Drug Safety: Not Sure – I'm really not sure because I don't stay on campus so I don't know what the campus life is like here.

Guys & Girls: Girls Only – There are only girls on this campus which make it easier to focus in class. It is also better for us to voice our opinions without the male point of view being around all the time.

Facilities: Teachers and Staffs – The teachers and staff are amazing. They help the students when ever they have a problem and is always pushing the students to achieve at their absolute best.

Transportation: The good thing about Alverno is that it is on a bus line and it's convenient.

Parking: Finding parking at Alverno is bad. It takes 10 minutes to find parking. By the time you find parking, you are late to class.I believe Alverno needs more parking lots or another structure.

Local Atmosphere: Feel Comfortable – There are a lot of different types of people at Alverno, so no matter what "group" you're a part of, or what your interests are, you'll feel comfortable here.

5 College Senior

Facilities: You feel like you belong at Alverno. The students and staff are very friendly and they treat you with respect and dignity...as a person should; you're even on a first-name basis with the faculty. There are no grades, it's a level system with validations and such. Small class sizes and a lot of activities on campus as well. I love it, it's a great school.

3 College Senior

Weather: From a Commuter – I drive from home everyday to school. Weather conditions in the winter time in Wisconsin can be brutal. It can be difficult to drive and classes are not easily cancelled. Around campus they are very good about keeping the sidewalks and roads clean from snow.

Most students who have made it through the majority of their years at Alverno say that they cannot imagine being anywhere else. In fact, many students who leave Alverno to go to other schools because of finances or because they didn't think Alverno was a good fit, often come back. Alverno is not just a school—it's a place that teaches women to think outside of the box and to understand themselves. It becomes a home for many people. Alverno graduates go on to become important women in their workplaces, communities, churches, and homes. The College offers students a unique opportunity to take a really good look at themselves and say, "Who am I?" and "Is this who I really want to be?"

Most people say that going to college is an investment in your future, but coming to Alverno is an investment in not only your future, but also your community's future. Almost all students who graduate from Alverno get a job within six months of graduation. Its graduates are competent, well-rounded, and have made a name both locally and internationally. At Alverno, students are pushed to analyze documents, literature, and one another. They are also encouraged to continuously self-assess and focus on their success.
