Facilities: excellent opportunities to work closely with professors. Professors are very available and supportive.

Computers: great availability, all the bells and whistles. Free unlimited printing, good wireless speed, off campus library access stinks! Personal computer highly recommended.

Scholarships: Because this is a private institution, tuition is very expensive ($42,000 per year). The school helps a decent amount for providing funding but I know most students take out heavy loans. Scholarships are given for academic achievement as well as religious and Scottish scholarships. Most students here pay the same amount they would at a public university. If you have a good scholarship at a college you may not love, but still like, I would recommend going to that college to save you some money.

Campus Dining: Dining Options – Alma College has 4 campus dining facilities. The first, Hamilton Commons is the main dining area, it serves three meals a day, but I feel that hours are an issue. It has a main line, deli, grill, pizza, stir fry, make your own pasta, salad bar, breakfast foods, vegan options and desserts. Food quality is getting better and workers are very friendly. Joe's place is the second option; choices are limited but hours are better. This place serves more "American" food and is a cafe style. There is also Van Dusen Commons, which is only open for lunch on weekdays. This has a main bar, usually of an ethnic food, and a stir fry/pasta station. It has a more sit down restaurant feel. There is also a coffee and ice cream cafe farther away from the heart of campus. Food is excellent quality, but does not accept meal plans but rather "Munch Money" that is given every semester to spend on food not provided by strict dining halls.

Weather: Rainy and Snowy – This area tends to get frequent rain and snow storms. Walking to class can be cold depending on the day. It is a good idea to bring warm clothes and an umbrella.

5 College Senior

Transportation: Travel by Foot – Everything on this campus in within walking distance. There is no need for any motorized vehicle transportation. Some people ride bikes and rollerblade to class.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Drinking Is More Popular – The drug and alcohol scene at Alma is very low. More people drink on campus than they do drugs. This all depends on the type of people one associates with.

4 College Senior

Majors: Double Interviews – I am in the Athletic Training program, which consists of a separate application and interview after getting accepted to the school. The process to get accepted into the athletic training program was not very difficult at all. Once in the program though, be ready to make sacrifices and major commitments to the program. The experience is worth it though.

Weather: Windy Winters – The winter can be a bit brutal. However, the campus is so small that getting around is not too difficult unless there is ice, that occasionally does not get taken care of right away.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Being Non-Greek Is Okay! I am not involved in the Greek Life. I have some very good friends who are though, and they're great. However, there are some people who seem to take Greek Life a bit too seriously and chastise those who are not Greek.

4 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Policies Are Respected but Considerate – I think the campus policies have not affected many students lives in a negative way. I know of a couple parking tickets here and there but that always established by parking in incorrect zones for longer lengths of time. I believe the college makes the best of the policies with the students to better or campus life and keep us safe. There are always circumstances that the college keeps in mind for policies to cooperate with students.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: No Drug Usage Problem Known – I believe that Alma College is one of the well kept college when it comes to student participation in alcohol usage and drugs. The peer pressure is minimum due to the fact that the campus is a hazing-free campus and that many students will support a fellow student in their choices. The policy enforcement has become much strong in its presence, which I believe to be a good thing. I think that the campus is well-off in this category comparatively to most other schools.

Academics: Chemistry Is Rewarding – The curriculum load being a chemistry major is extremely challenging with many learning experiences along the way. The unique aspects offered by my college are the on-hand experiences that most colleges do not offer. I believe this opportunity helps better my understanding of my major and where I can go with it. The facilities are usually up-to-date but always provide excellent services for the chemistry major. There are no intern opportunities that I am aware of at my college, however there are multiple opportunities to get involved in research with professors. This research opportunity is one of the best experiences a student can have for graduate schools and employers to look at. Research at my college allows students to experience a more in-depth feel of being a chemist.

Health & Safety: Safe and Sound – Alma is completely safe, I have never experienced any problems. My job requires me to work until 1 a.m., but I have never been concerned about walking across campus alone. I've met many of the security workers, and they are all very friendly, understanding people.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Lots of Options – Alma College offers a lot of different majors and minors. The faculty are amazing at helping you in whatever path you choose to study. They are always available to talk and help out with classes. Workloads can be tough, but lots of faculty and tutors are always available to help out.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: You Can Participate or Not – The drug and alcohol scene at Alma is definitely present, but you don't have to be a part of it if you don't want to be. They have really awesome parties though!

1 College Sophomore

Athletics: Not Sport Centric – The athletic scene at Alma is not very popular. Some teams like the girls' volleyball team kick butt, however our football team is pretty bad. Fans usually go to the first game of the season and that's about it.

2 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: In the Middle of Nowhere – There is not much to do off campus in Alma. In fact, the students here say we live in "the bubble." In a way, it's nice that students do not have to worry about wandering around late at night but it would be nice if we had a mall; or anything for that matter.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Your Major, Your Way – Alma College provides a surprising amount of opportunities for students to do independent study or program of emphasis. Even if Alma does not officially have a certain major or program available, with a little help from some of the professors students can create their own major and take the classes that will be the most helpful in the long run.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Process Was Smooth – The college does a very good job in keeping you informed with financial aid. Just wish they could offer more money.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: The parking permit prices are expensive....having said that, the college should do a better job keeping people without permits from parking.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Grass Fields Could Be a Lot Better – The grass fields at Alma College could be better. It would not even take much out of the budget of the school to take better care of them. Especially the the soccer practice fields and of course the game field.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The dining hall at Alma College is perfect for a community like feel however, the food that is provided is less than appealing. There is always a variety of food, but it is sometimes hard to work up an appetite. There are three options of places to eat and you can always use your flex dollars at the College's snack shop, Joe's.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: To be a Sociology major at Alma College means that I will have plenty of help and support from my peers, the Alma College Staff and my professors. There is no better feeling than knowing that I am going to use my skills that I learn at Alma College to make big changes in the world. At Alma College, everyone strives to push the students to think outside of just a major and to think of how each individual can positively impact the community, nation and world outside of Alma.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Alma College has the most amazing atmosphere. The college located in a small town and takes on the feel of being in a close knit community. The landscaping of the college is extraordinary and it boasts having a great variety of trees and plants. When simply driving past the school, you know that the small campus holds big dreams and students full of potential.
