Off-Campus Housing: Almost None Available – Unless you are a commuter you have to live on campus until your senior year, and then the people who can live off campus are chosen through a lottery.

Scholarships: Process Is Generally Smooth; Problems Are Worked Out – I received a good amount of financial aid, especially considering the cost of attendance. The process generally was very smooth; however, I did run into a problem during my second year, which might have been due to the absence of an important form in the package mailed to me during the summer. I worked out the problem with the helpful financial aid office, but it was still a bit of a pain when a warning email arrives at the very stressful end of the semester.

Off-Campus Dining: There Are Some Nice Options – Bravehearts Pub has excellent food for cheap prices. The Main Cafe, The Wooden Spoon, Great Wall China, Pizza One and Pizza Sams are other options. What's nice is that you can use some of the side money on the meal plan at places like Pizza One or Stucchis which has great food and ice cream as well

Facilities: Alma College is the only school of that name, which makes finding it pretty easy. There's a strong respect for the Scottish culture - our mascot is a Scottish man, our marching band wears traditional kilts, we have traditional Highland dancers, a bagpipe ensemble, etc. There are a ton of opportunities to network with alumini for future internships and careers and plenty of help to find internships, etc.

Computers: Many Options – There are both Mac and Pc computer labs on campus and between the labs in the academic buildings, library, and dorms there are plenty of areas to find a space to work. Printing on campus is free which many students love taking advantage of.

Campus Dining: The dining services earn the most complaints from the student body as a whole. While there are many options to vary what you eat, most of them are very unhealthy. The healthy options such as fruits and vegetables are not always fresh and the prepared cooked meals have been known to be so poor that students refuse to eat them.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The security's main responsibility is giving parking tickets for cars parked in restricted areas. While they are supposed to patrol parties they mainly stay outside and out of sight. There have also been several complaints of security guards breaking their own rules of conduct when dealing with students and their property

Scholarships: Process Was Not Bad – The financial aid process was not any different from other colleges. I basically had to refile my FASFA from last year. All in all, the process was not painful it just took a lot of time to complete. It basically asked the same questions it does every year I reapply which can get really frustrating when you cannot answer some of them without your parents.

Transportation: 5 Minute Walk – Alma College is a small campus so the walk to class is not bad. It usually takes me five minutes to get to any of my classes from the dorm that I am living in. You could probably say that it saves money in transportation when you attend a small college. It takes me even less time traveling in between classes because the academic buildings are all right next to each other.

Academics: Tutoring Help – One great thing about Alma is the tutoring program offered to students who need help for classes. The tutoring is mainly offered to those in the beginning classes, but it helps to have someone your helping you understand the material. Unlike some colleges Alma does not charge students who need tutoring help.

Campus Dining: So-So Dining – The dining options at Alma are not anything to give praise about. Usually every week the same type of dish is offered whether it is stir fry or tacos. To many students it gets old pretty fast and because of this many students end up eating off campus. To be fair, Alma's food does not taste bad, but their food selection is not all that creative.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: At Alma the weather does not effect campus life too much. Classes are about five minutes from any of the dorms so it is not to bad when walking in the rain or snow. Also, since many activities happen within the recreational center the weather does not really effect anything on campus expect outdoor sports, but that rarely happens.

Academics: Helpful Professors – The professors in the biology department at Alma College are very helpful when it comes to answering questions their students have. Also, they are helpful in advising when it comes time to register for classes. They know what classes need to be taken depending on a particular field the student is interested in pursuing within biology. It is really great that the professors at Alma College have an open door policy during their office hours so the students can stop in.

Campus Housing: On Life Campus – The dorms are sub-par, to say the least. Yet the tuition is through the roof. There are not many washing or dryers so good luck.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Very Safe – Alma has strived to make sure our small campus is safe. There is security always around, there are emergency phones and safe dorms through out the campus.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Alma is a great place to go to college because you great quality help from the professors, undergrad science research experience, nice size dorm rooms, 5 minute walking distance to class, and small town charm. Alma is considered one of the top colleges in the country, offers some great classes, and study abroad opportunities in many different countries.

Off-Campus Dining: The College Corner – Alma College offers some great places to dine off-campus using a system called munch money. These places include pizza, sandwiches, ice cream, and several more. One of my favorite places is the College Corner. The eatery offers foods such as: sandwiches, burgers, salads, paninis, and hot dogs. Stuchi's Ice Cream is also located in the same building as the College Corner and offers a wide variety of ice cream flavors. Another great thing about the College corner is that it is located a block away from the campus.

Facilities: excellent opportunities to work closely with professors. Professors are very available and supportive.

Computers: great availability, all the bells and whistles. Free unlimited printing, good wireless speed, off campus library access stinks! Personal computer highly recommended.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Because this is a private institution, tuition is very expensive ($42,000 per year). The school helps a decent amount for providing funding but I know most students take out heavy loans. Scholarships are given for academic achievement as well as religious and Scottish scholarships. Most students here pay the same amount they would at a public university. If you have a good scholarship at a college you may not love, but still like, I would recommend going to that college to save you some money.

Campus Dining: Dining Options – Alma College has 4 campus dining facilities. The first, Hamilton Commons is the main dining area, it serves three meals a day, but I feel that hours are an issue. It has a main line, deli, grill, pizza, stir fry, make your own pasta, salad bar, breakfast foods, vegan options and desserts. Food quality is getting better and workers are very friendly. Joe's place is the second option; choices are limited but hours are better. This place serves more "American" food and is a cafe style. There is also Van Dusen Commons, which is only open for lunch on weekdays. This has a main bar, usually of an ethnic food, and a stir fry/pasta station. It has a more sit down restaurant feel. There is also a coffee and ice cream cafe farther away from the heart of campus. Food is excellent quality, but does not accept meal plans but rather "Munch Money" that is given every semester to spend on food not provided by strict dining halls.

Weather: Rainy and Snowy – This area tends to get frequent rain and snow storms. Walking to class can be cold depending on the day. It is a good idea to bring warm clothes and an umbrella.

5 College Senior

Transportation: Travel by Foot – Everything on this campus in within walking distance. There is no need for any motorized vehicle transportation. Some people ride bikes and rollerblade to class.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Drinking Is More Popular – The drug and alcohol scene at Alma is very low. More people drink on campus than they do drugs. This all depends on the type of people one associates with.

4 College Senior

Majors: Double Interviews – I am in the Athletic Training program, which consists of a separate application and interview after getting accepted to the school. The process to get accepted into the athletic training program was not very difficult at all. Once in the program though, be ready to make sacrifices and major commitments to the program. The experience is worth it though.
