2 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There is not anything in Pippa passes,KY. There is not any locals because the entire town is literally the college. The closest store of any kind is in Hazard,KY which is about thirty minutes away.

1 College Freshman

Greek Life: Alice Lloyd College does not have any Greek life whatsoever. It would be great if we did though.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The teachers here understand that you have other classes so you don't get overloaded on work from a single class. The student work program also helps a lot here since it gives you job experience, and it helps pay your tuition or in some cases gives you money in your pocket.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The teachers here really see you as a student and not as a number. They offer to stay after class and help with just about anything.

2 College Freshman

Computers: The internet speed is low and that is major problem if your professor assigns an online assignment because it takes forever to get done since the internet kicks you off after a certain time of being on it.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The college is based on old time Christian beliefs and they stick to it here which seems outdated in today's time. Student Life isn't nearly as good as it possibly could be here.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Ethinic wise, there are not too many diverse people. But many people come from different backgrounds.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I usually feel unsafe. Our campus is not lit well at night.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Most students already know each other coming from close nit schools. Because our campus is so small, word gets around very quickly.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are not too many places to move off campus. Most students stay on campus because it is cheaper.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Coming from a big city was hard at first, but the friendly faces made it easy to make friends. I have made lifelong friendships while being here, not only from students, but teachers and faculty as well.

5 College Sophomore

Computers: Computers are always available for use. Printers are always up and running. The WiFi is occasionally down when there are too many users on the network.

4 Recent Alumnus

Drug Safety: A few students sneak drugs and alcohol into the dorms, but it is a non-issue. There is a zero-tolerance policy. Those that get drunk are severely reprimanded. It's less strict than it was years ago, but a student will not necessarily be punished for using alcohol off-campus now, provided they are of age. Still, it is greatly frowned upon, and there is considerable pressure to NOT use drugs and alcohol.

Local Atmosphere: There's not much to do in Pippa Passes or the surrounding community. If you're looking for a life outside of school, it just isn't happening. The next town over, Hindman, has a couple of restaurants, a grocery store, and a small strip mall. Expect to travel at least a half an hour to Hazard, KY to go to Walmart, Game Stop, or other stores. The nearest "big city" is Huntington, WV, which is two hours away.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The only housing option you have is to live in dorms or live with your parents. You can get kicked out if you don't do one or the other.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Everybody seems to be pretty accepting of others' differences. There have been a few instances where an argument had taken place, but other than that everyone gets along fairly well.

2 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There isn't much to do at or around campus unless you drive about an hour to the closest city.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Weather is tolerable. It does rain quite a bit in the Spring. Snows some toward the end of the semester, but they excuse commuters if it's bad.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: There aren't very many majors or minors, but the teachers make sure that everyone who tries will succeed. The curriculum can be very challenging depending on your teachers. I have really enjoyed most of my professors because they are always willing to help. They even give us their numbers in case they aren't on campus to help us out.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: They have a scholarship that helps pay for your masters degree, and pays for housing. We have a student work program so we don't have to pay tuition, just room and board. Everyone that lives in the dorms gets 18 free meals per week.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: The campus is very small so it makes it very easy to make it to class on time. The teachers are awesome when it comes to helping out the students. The labs and library are in great condition. The dorms could use some work, they're very small and hard to fit all three people in them.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are really good, willing to help you no matter what and are there just to help really.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The academics at the school are really good. The teachers are always willing to help out.

1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: We ONLY have a Dairy Queen,Subway, and a Holly Hills restraunt which has low grade food. and these places are about 15 minutes away.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: Varsity sports at Alice Lloyd are very poor. We do not even have a trainer or our doctor on campus is normally not working. The campus/students treat us like normal people we are not better than everyne else like at a bigger college. We are not put on pedistools that we have to fulfill. we only have three sports in the school. Basketball, Tennis, and baseball. Baseball is the most important sport at Alice Lloyd.
