Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Throughout your Alfred experience, you or someone close to you will utter the phrase, "I've got to get out of here." Students at AU make threats to transfer at least twice daily. Still, very few actually do. Many students stay for an extra year. Some stay for grad school, and a good portion of the staff is composed of AU alumni. Why? Students are spoiled! It's comfortable here, the financial aid is great, and many professors are also great mentors. Who would want to leave all that personal attention and a close-knit group of friends to just be a number at another university with a better football team?

AU students will disparage their time at AU with venom. When asked to appraise their experience honestly, however, they'll shrug their shoulders and admit that Alfred has helped them to learn and grow as individuals. While some individuals transfer, the majority of students that chose Alfred knows deep down that they couldn't be anywhere else.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I love Alfred, but with that said people often say Alfred is what you make out of it. I co-founded the quidditch, joined the student senate, and the honors program. I have also traveled with the environmental studies department to the Bahamas to spend a week at a research center. There is a great sense of community at Alfred, you will get lots of hellos as you walk to class. With that said if all you do is stay in your dorm room then you won't enjoy Alfred.

Athletics: I'm not into watch sports at all so I can't give an accurate description.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: They totally changed the dinning plan, and not it's extremely confusing and difficult to eat where you want to eat. I'm not even going to try to explain since I am now off the meal plan, but it is a hassle.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Permits are a bit expensive, and all the close parking spots are hard to grab. Everything is really close however so most people just walk and only have their cars to get home and to the grocery store.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: They are pretty much strict about all the things you think they would be about; drugs, alcohol, noise, cleanliness, parking, and curfew. You can't be in certain academic building after a period of time or you will get in trouble. They are a little to strict with noise, but I understand why. Everything else is pretty average and well enforced. Cleanliness is there, for fire safety reasons, and communal cleaning of the bathrooms and kitchen. You don't have to clean it yourself there is a janitor, but have respect and not being completely disrespectful is expected of you.
